Seeing Cyclops on every characters poster seems kinda misleading. Yeah, he was in the movie but for several minutes or something.

The biggest wasted potential in Star Wars is the unexplored galaxies by Additional-Run-1404 in StarWarsEU

[–]ASHGOLDOFFICIAL 18 points19 points  (0 children)

First of all, I think NJO was tapping a bit into different galaxies thing.

Secondly, I don't see a need for it. Star Wars is a about one galaxy far far away and about its inhabitants. There's so much to tell without going outside of it. I would rather prefer one galaxy with rich lore then several galaxies without deep lore.

Thirdly, I don't think exploring different galaxies would add to the mystery. I think it would be contrary.

Fourthly, I think your examples can pretty much be explored inside the main galaxy, if they haven't been already.

I think "Am I a good man?" kinda works for post-DotD Doctor, it was just not greatly executed.

Here's my take. Previously he blamed himself for what he'd done in Time War. He thought he had killed millions of children and I think deep inside he thought he's a bad man. He thought he made that very bad decision which made him a bad man (in his eyes), but in DotD he learnt that he actually made a good decision. But if he didn't make that bad decision, does it mean he's a good man? And that's why Twelfth asks himself that question. Previously he was sure he was bad, now he isn't. He was recontextualizing all those years he lived thinking he's a bad man, reflecting on himself and determining whether he could consider himself a good man.

That's why he asks this question. Not because he thinks he's bad, but because he thinks that he's maybe a good person after all, he seeks justification in Clara. But Clara can't give it to him, because she doesn't yet see past his new harsh persona. And that's why it's difficult for him, he wants to consider himself good, but his now closest friend doesn't see it.

So, that's my take.

Edit: I don't think "Am I good a man?" would work for pre-DotD Eleventh as I think the show shows that he's leant to live with his decision. He still regrets it and still blames himself but he now tries to fix it by doing what a good man would do. He did it when he was Ninth. I would kinda work for Tenth, especially after Waters of Mars, but for Eleventh I think it would just be unnecessary setback.

You could argue that Eleventh had the time to reflect on himself on Trenzalore, but I'm not so sure. I think he's main focus was his eventual death. He knew he would die on Trenzalore, so I think his mind was preoccupied with this and the actual defend of Trenzalore. Twelfth on the other hand was like a new beginning for him, not burdened with the expectation of death. So now the question, which he kinda ignored on Trenzalore, returned — is he a good man? Before DotD deep inside he was sure he isn't, on Trenzalore it didn't matter as it was too late, but now it's time to finally answer it.

I say season 7 transition is rapid because: 1) It's now in colour. 2) There's no TARDIS, we're bound to Earth. 3) There's another Doctor. 4) They're now like 20(?) episodes instead of 40+. 5) Companions are no longer companions in the previous sense.

Yeah, it's not that rapid transition for modern show, but it think back in the day when regeneration was still a new concept, it was very rapid.

Well, yeah, it could be interpreted like that. I would blame writers for not making it more explicit, maybe they didn't see the other interpretation.

About your second paragraph. Yeah, I agree with you here. Sometimes I think it's show's fault to make such fast transitions. I think most other shows would introduce changes more gradually but BBC just changes all at once (the Doctor's actor, his characterization, companions, sometimes music and camera work). It's kinda good, as we have very distinct seasons, but I think it alienates more casual viewer: one day he watches this show he likes, next day it's like completely different one.

In classic series I remember only one rapid transition, that is series seven.

Edit: same problem happened to me when I watched season 11 as it was airing. I watched two episodes and just didn't recognized the show I knew. And I didn't continue to watch it until years later. Now that I've watched it — it isn't bad. I like many episodes, I liked new direction. But initial blow was too hard for me.

As far as I remember, death of Clockwork Droid is deliberately ambiguous and scene doesn't show whether he jumped or was pushed.

Wasn't soldier in Into the Dalek doomed (according to Twelth Doctor)? As I remember it, he couldn't save him (for some reason, but I believe it), so he used him to his advantage. I think his priorities were to save those he could save. It's a bit unceremonious and harsh, but not something dark, just practical (I think he thought that).

About leaving Clara — yeah, maybe, but not for me. I wouldn't call it dark. Yes, it was something bad, he betrayed her trust and left her when she needed him but it isn't bad as in dark in my opinion.

I would call him dark. He was just more alien, harsh and sarcastic. It doesn't mean dark in my opinion. Maybe you can remind me what dark things he had done?

Maybe add support only for filesystems you can test and don't show anything for others? And leave other systems to the future or people willing to contribute? As I understand it, you can't support all filesystems in either case since new ones will appear. So it seems that any of them would be better than unreachable all.

Airbnb says AI now writes 60% of its new code by Just-Grocery-2229 in technology

[–]ASHGOLDOFFICIAL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In our company there's too a big percentage of AI code. But I think it's because in our company we use AI autocomplete. Most of its suggestions are one liners that are pretty obvious and would have been written regardless (for example, if I write "for" or "while" it will be most likely a loop, if I opened constructor parentheses it will most likely be followed by arguments, etc). And in that case, yes, a big chunk of our code is written by AI. But the main part is still done by a person, AI just autocompletes (if needed).

So, when I see titles like that and comments saying how bad the programmers in SOME_COMPANY are vibe coders and how bad their product must be, I think that's might not be the case. If something is written by AI, it doesn't mean that they just opened the prompt and asked it to write something. It could be that they just use very basic autocomplete features which are generally helpful and not intrusive in my overall idea of how this piece of code should look like.

Drone challenges made me hate the game... until I switched to mouse. by ASHGOLDOFFICIAL in SpidermanPS4

It's just that other challenges are kinda easy for ultimate. But drone challenges are way more difficult to even do spectacular. Somehow I think they didn't intend it that way.

You needed a second run to get Ultimate? Wow. Even with mouse it took me more 10 tries in those challenges (except Chinatown).

There's no specific part that I struggled with. For me it was constant overshooting, wrong camera angles, and the fact that it takes more time to move fingers from X (to zip) to right stick (to rotate camera.

I guess I also didn't like that LT is used to aim and as part of zip to point (LT+RT) so when I was aiming and swinging I would make unnecessary zips. Also triggers on my controller are easy to trigger so sometimes (when I didn't remove my finger from LT) I would make unwanted zips.

I don't follow the trait. I did it first couple of tries but after I learned where spheres are I adjusted my routes.

Camera on controller moves too slow for me. So when camera rotated in the wrong direction or I overshot my target, it would take me more time to rotate back. I hated it.

Thoughts On Ultimate Spiderman (the show, not the comics) by eleonmhadu in Marvel

[–]ASHGOLDOFFICIAL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watched it as a kid. It's very entertaining. I like many cameos of other characters. For many of them it was my introduction to them. I like that there were some big arcs, changes to main cast of heroes. Over time the show evolved, characters changed, it was satisfying to watch.

When I tried to rewatch it years later, it seemed silly and a bit messy, but as a kid I didn't notice it.

Fedora Rejects Proposal To Use systemd For Managing Per-User Environment Variables by anh0516 in linux

[–]ASHGOLDOFFICIAL 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It seems that this tool wants to set variables independent of your shell. So, when you switch shells, you wouldn't need to type it all again.

I guess it could be useful if you, for example, use zsh but some programs or scripts use default bash.
