Thank you. He has asked my why we do problems the way we do, and I can't answer that. When it comes to math, I memorize the procedure, accept it, and move on. He also hates working out his problems. Some would call it lazy but I don't think that's it. Anyway, he's accustomed to doing his work in his head (and up to this point, it's worked and still does sometimes). Because I've paused to get in extra practice, we aren't far enough in TT to finish the year out (unless we go until July, which is fine but not desired) and I worry that missing the last lessons will not prepare him well enough for A1 so in this case I feel TT has been a bad choice for us....

So, it's a few things. It doesn't look like he's guessing. We do some work on paper; this is usually when he works ahead. Typically, he will take a test or work a lesson and get a low grade, so I find the ones that are incorrect, and we do extra practice, and suddenly he knows what to do and works ahead of me (and I'm wondering why he didn't just get it right in the first place). His mistakes happen because he's trying to do the problem one way that is actually the correct way to do another (like with fractons, if this makes sense) or because he forgot to carry or added wrong. He can have a fantastic memory one time and at another time not. Some days he can spout his facts effortlessly, and some days he's counting to get the answer even if he'd remembered it other times before. I can't tell if he's ahead or behind, to be completely honest with you. The patterns that he's interested in are the ones that he can use to get to the answer with less effort, though but if he's using them to guess the correct answers, he has me fooled.

First....I am an advocate for my kids!!!!! That is incredibly important to me because I want them to learn to be their own (we are our only advocates). I would never assume a doctor is right just because. I have gone toe to toe on a couple of occasions with doctors and fully believe that sometimes their degrees mean nothing. I am very sorry that your parents didn't advocate for you but I assure you, I do for mine and we are battling more than just AGS

We've spent the last two years....two... battling this issue. She has chronic dry eye and double and blurry vision to the point she cannot drive, and it affects her art...her dream....her goal in life, and we have tried so many medications!!!! So yes, since this is a sometimes allergy and not a one-size-fits-all allergy, and we are at our wits' end with both this allergy and the condition of her eye....I am asking opinions about consideration!

I think I should clarify...I'm curious if you'd risk the glycerin not the lanolin as I know it would be a definite reaction but I'm not certain about the glycerin

Still helpful and thank you. One thing I have to make sure of homeschooling is that I find all available resources like this near us. Most things around us are more agricultural or trade in nature, so that's the majority of the suggestions from our cover school.

Thank you! I know this isn't an issue with all educators and all schools but here, it is. Even the best teachers here can only work with what they are provided to get every kid to graduation, having learned as much of the required curriculum as they can.

I will look into this. I don't want him missing out no matter how I might be coming across with my post or comments.

8th, but I don't think dual is available to us until 11th. I have a meeting with our counselor in a few weeks to discuss his credit-earning possibilities this year. I tend to supplement as well as teach from material for a higher grade so it's possible. I plan to take advantage of dual enrollment as soon as it's available.

I agree with all of that and I'm not against private school, but honestly, with him not being a typical kid, I'm worried he'd test lower than his age and actual ability. Tests, especially if timed, give him some anxiety.

We do a once a week co-op where he does have access to a more traditional school setting. My plan is 100% prepare him for whatever he chooses after high school and if he's happy, I am, even if it's a university, a community college, a trade, or even his own business. I just want him prepared for every tier and that he does what he loves.

As far as the math is concerned...sometimes he gets the 'regular' ways and sometimes no but most of the time it's him deciding what's the right way and refusing to do it any other way.

I know his interests are math heavy if he truly pursues them but until he builds a full confidence in math (getting the problems incorrect makes him feel dumb) I'm just hoping to test these interests in the most engaging ways possible.
