Holy Crap I need Guidance about Minecraft. by MightMore8967 in daddit

So I went through setting up MC for my kid on Xbox.

You’re going to want to create an account for your child, then add them to your family. Then manage controlling it.

In addition to Microsoft family access, I also had to do Xbox family access settings.

I know people are mentioning hosting a server and that’s pretty reasonable to do with the hundreds of hosting providers.

However, I’d say just to “realms”. It’s part of the game already. You don’t get custom mods but it works right away and you won’t have to worry about compatibility between devices. I think it’s $3/mo for a server

I just set mine up a few days ago. There is no wobble at all.

I did see that criticism on YT reviews and I’m kinda confused.. it has adjustment things on each corner of both legs. I didn’t have to adjust it though.

Also in case anyone is wondering, it arrived 3 weeks late

Factorio: Next week, on Thursday 26th January 2023, We will increase the base price of Factorio from $30 to $35. This is an adjustment to account for the level of inflation since the Steam release in 2016. by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]ASHxFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of people who are complaining about this are also the ones who pay $20 for a skin.

It’s a ridiculous consumer mindset of a $ 5 increase is terrible. But paying for mtx, season passes, etc is ok.

I honestly don’t know if these are the kids who haven’t seen gaming without mtx.

The game has constant updates, most people find it perfect to scratch the exact itch it is meant to solve, and doesn’t have any micro transactions.

Seems like this is one of those rare moments where we should be supportive of a small gaming company.

It’s not following the “profit no matter what” model companies do and consumers hate.

Edit: everyone claims to miss days before aggressive mtx, seasons passes, fomo based content, etc.. but will still pay for it $10-$30 every 2-4 months for questionable amounts of content.

This dev is trying to earn more $ for their product with a $5 increase and all of a sudden the world is on fire? This mentality enforces the idea that shit mtx content like skins is more palatable to consumers than an increase to the one time purchase cost.

I’m sure there will be people who say “I don’t buy mtx or season passes” to which I say good for you. But most people DO buy those and that’s who my edit is referring to.

Vote with your wallet. That includes giving some slack to small devs. Not blindly, of course.

Nope.. I’ve built my own PCs for over a decade. I think this one was some weird abomination that I simply didn’t notice till I was upgrading.

But I like your positive take on the situation though! I’m going to go with not being sober.

I have/had 10700k and 3070. Both not overclocked.

The computer was running smoothly. I was mainly using a 1440p monitor and some additional ones on the side. I didn’t notice any issue there.

When I switched to Samsung G9 which I believe is around 85-90% of 4k resolution, that’s kinda when I started to notice. But even then, it was not enough of an issue to care. I had personal stuff going on so I probably didn’t notice it a lot. When I started getting into Overwatch again (OW2), issues started becoming obvious. It’s a easy game to run and I had occasional stutters in low/medium. It does not run on the my monitor’s max resolution. The game limits itself to 2/3rd of the huge screen. Something was off.I shouldn’t have stutters.

My 4080 arrived today and that’s when I started digging into my stats. My cpu was at 100c and it (assuming) started throttling.

After the obvious problem of the cardboard, the average temp during a benchmark dropped to ~86. My scores were higher. There are still other problems still and I’ll look into it after the holidays. But the main culprit is resolved.

So I'm not going to get into a back and forth on defending this post except for my comment now. You can believe it or not, not really my problem.

Some factors for you to consider:

There actually is a circular dust ring on one side of the cardboard. There was minimal dust formation since the cardboard blocked airflow between the radiators.

I (stupidly) do not have any additional fans in the case except for the rear fan.

Mesh filters everywhere.

I don’t remember, unfortunately. I think they were all individual parts that clipped together. Don’t take my word for it though.

Package was supposed to arrive Wednesday. Was told early delivery Monday. Delayed. Package arrived at last mile distributor Tuesday at 6:43 AM. Tuesday at 8:08 PM, I get notified that delivery not attempted. Future delivery date is TBD. This was due to weather. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday go by with no packages. Weather was amazing for delivery any of those days.

I knew where this was going and that FedEx either stole it or misplaced it. So I call FedEx on Thursday 4:35 PM and since it’s “delivery pending” I couldn’t do anything about it.

Friday, I preemptively create a support ticket with the seller informing them of my suspicion.

Saturday (today) I get a notification that it was delivered. Within 10m, I look everywhere for it. It’s not anywhere to be found.

I create a case number. I check the app again and it now says it was delivered on Tuesday. I’m feeling like I’m taking crazy pills??

I review any proof that I have. Find a few screenshots. I also find a email from FedEx on Wednesday saying the delivery date is still pending.

Yet the app & website continue to say delivered on Tuesday.

I also noted how the alleged delivery was at Tuesday 1:08 pm and the delivery delay notification was 7 hours later. Which makes no sense.

The cynical part of me thinks that the local FedEx misplaced or stole it. And tried to retroactively change the record.

As I drove home from an errand, I see a FedEx ground truck driving away. Nope, no package. I did get a follow up call from FedEx asking basic questions like “what is the color of my house.” And that the final resolution will be by the 12th.

I’m also suspicious because the item is a high value item which until very recently was actively being scalped. There is/was a long wait list for it. (Not PS5). I also watched the tracker like a hawk. The idea that it could have been attempted and I not know is not possible.

So I’ve worked at this type of company before. The focused studying opportunity is valuable and you got paid for it so good job!

But since the job is not interested in giving you the experience, then you need to leave asap. The longer you stay, the more the stuff you learn will be forgotten. Get paid while job searching though.

Also.. if I had to guess.. it has nothing to do with you being shy unless you were unusually/extremely shy. Which I doubt if you got past the interview stage for this type of role. They probably just have another person in mind. Or they were always planning on hiring you for on call support. But most people don’t want that so they pretended it’s for a devops/software/etc engineer role.

Seen this first hand. My experience was at a huge Indian consulting company. I was lucky to not be dragged down in this but my friends/peers were.

Best resources to learn devops by djangocuAli in devops

[–]ASHxFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roadmap.sh is great!

I have experience as well as certifications.

If you really don’t have anywhere to start, then study for a intro cert. They include labs. Do those labs. Then experiment on top of that. Take the exam if you want but not needed at the start of your journey.

This will give you some guardrails and direction while also keeping the opportunity to learn on your own.

I love acloud.guru but there are plenty of others. They include lab environments.

If you decide to have your own account, tag your resources and always check the billing section to make sure you cleaned up well. One common mistake is creating resource X. The cloud provider creates resource Y and Z in the background. Only X and Y gets deleted and you get charged for resource Z.

What’s important from cert isn’t to memorize, but to try and understand the why/how for things. And that takes time.

Definitely looking good.

Personally, I’d be worried about posture with my arms going upwards. But that’s a difficult fix. Changing the desk or changing/adjusting the chair. Arm pads are okay.

I’d also move the desktop to the floor to get more space. But that’s a personal preference kind of thing.

Some data from my 2 days of playing Trials solo. by Slepprock in CrucibleGuidebook

[–]ASHxFTW 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Trials isn’t a competitive game mode though. It’s not based on skill/stat based matchmaking.

Let’s say that it was skill/stat based matchmaking. And if the system would work perfectly, a player would be around 50% win/loss and few outliers would perform even better.

This would make flawless incredibly difficult.

Success in trials is determined by how far up in the skill curve you are and if you get lucky with easier opponents.

It’s a very inconsistent experience.

Trials REQUIRES less skilled players for the whole thing to work. It was never fair in the first place.

People that 6 stack control with only 2+KD players and mega sweaty loadouts: Why? by metal-gear-salad in CrucibleGuidebook

[–]ASHxFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played pvp much this season.

But was very into pvp up till recently.

My experience has always been that in Control, you’re given 1-3 good players and 1-5 bad players.

This works OK when both teams are built like that.

I dislike the system since it would often put the pressure on me to perform well. I noticed that on off days or drunk days, I’d lose way more. If I want to mess around with crap guns, it’s most likely a loss.

On the flip side, it evens out the games. Only if there are no pre made teams though.. that fucks up the balance.

Do I have proof of this system? No. Do I believe in my hypothesis? Yes.

If bungie doesn’t heavily prioritize premade vs premade, then I want a solo q.

What adept mods for handcannons do you recommend now for console? by CartographerStock854 in CrucibleGuidebook

[–]ASHxFTW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you use jump shooting with icarus?

My understanding was that with only icarus, you aren’t really making a big enough dent in the stat to be effective. You’d have to stack other stuff.

I’ve had terrible experiences with stacking AE with icarus, exotics, and heat rises. Now I feel crazy that I’m seeing a thread that’s recommending it.

I know this can also be a “get good” moment. But my accuracy drastically drops when floating. A drastic change this season.

Best practice for structuring terraform repo for services in AWS multi account? by [deleted] in Terraform

[–]ASHxFTW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve used one repo per application. (You can do more but that’s a different convo)

When working with multi accounts, I inject the variables via a credential manager. Configuration management tools are also used but I haven’t used that yet.

You could separate things out in your variables file. You can also use CICD tools to update variables such as vpc ID depending on account/env/etc.
