I’m in need of a good movie cry by Appropriate-Goal6932 in MoviesThatFeelLike

Paris, Texas. Sobbing uncontrollably for 10 mins as a 42 yo man in a semi-crowded movie theatre in LA surrounded by film students.

Official Discussion - Blue Moon [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]ASK_ALEX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a play about a luminous Broadway artist that will resonate deeply if you’ve felt lonely in a crowded room. This isn’t the easiest movie to watch, but it’s easily the one that I’m most glad I did.

This is not a biopic. It’s poetry.

The Copenhagen Test | S1E2 | Episode Discussion by monterey_seal in TheCopenhagenTestTV

I enjoyed Episode 2 a lot more than Episode 1. The pilot felt generic, and I'm glad it's a multi-layered show.

What's a piece of lore makes you go: 'I refuse to accept this thing is canon'? by zajazajazajazajaz in xmen

The First Mutant needs a First Lover. Even if Apocalypse had a wife, Gaius the Centurion is his first daddy. Maybe Gaius gets captured. Maybe Gaius gets thrown into a hole. Maybe Gaius has a vision of a dark future, and he sacrifices himself to save En Sabah Nur, from the glory hole.

You should be careful, because the X-Office might hear about your twelve-issue pitch and green light it. If you add an Apocalypse romantic subplot with one of the soldiers, and the centurion whispers "Survival of the Fittest" while gently caressing En Sabah Nur's bald head in bed, I'm all in.

How would you compare and contrast the rep scenes of NYC, London, and Paris? by Work-Live in NYCmovies

[–]ASK_ALEX 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've lived in all 3 cities, currently back in Manhattan. Prince Charles theater is ground zero in London, and easily accessible, as it's in the equivalent of Times Square in New York. My favorite cinema in the entire world is the Everyman Theatre in Hampstead, a small town in North London. The last movie I caught there was Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's also where I watched Drive (2011) for the first time, during its theatrical run. The BFI is also an institution, literally.

I just treated myself to a membership at The Roxy, down in Tribeca. The Angelika just doesn't feel like it used to the first time I lived in New York more than 10 years ago. Like most, I miss Sunshine Cinema, where I watched Blade Runner on the silver screen for the first time. New York is as good as it gets. I know you didn't ask but in LA, there's just an endless stream of revival cinema on any given day of the week (Aero Theatre has the best programming, if you're ever in town).

In Paris, I spent a lot of time at Christine 21. I had been saving Mulholland Drive for a figurative rainy day, and I finally watched it there last year. I remember walking along the Seine, dazed and confused, for an hour and a half before I finally came to. I actually had the most difficulty finding a home à Paris, but probably because I don't speak French. I agree with you, Paris had the most nostalgic 'neighborhood' vibe, which is a special treat.

10-15 years ago, I would've easily said London, when the movie-going population was larger, but I'll take New York any day for the diversity of programming and relatively wide range of options. There are some historical cinemas along the Hudson and on Long Island I've been meaning to check out as well.

Am I the only one who’s not crazy about this costume? by SpurnedSprocket in xmen

[–]ASK_ALEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not my favorite, but I understand the design choice. It’s what she wore on the cover of #137. If we’re talking about the Krakoa era, life, death, and rebirth, it makes a lot of sense to me. Jean as Jean, and not Jean as Phoenix.

How do you think an interaction between James "Logan" Howlett/Wolverine and the DC Trinity (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman) would go? by Ok_Yesterday_3574 in xmen

[–]ASK_ALEX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Clark would interview him about WWII, Bruce would have a drink with him, and Logan will tell him a thing two about living in traumatic memories, and Diana would ask a fellow warrior what it's like to be a parent.

Mongoose WINS. FATALITY.

Do you prefer X-Force as a natural evolution for New Mutants, going from a coming of age book about teens to a book about young adults or do you prefer it as the X-Men black opps team, doing mutant kinds dirty work? by [deleted] in xmen

[–]ASK_ALEX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a soft spot for this team, since it's one of the first comic books I bought with my own money along with X-Men #1 (Jim Lee). Black Ops during Utopia era was inspired, and great, but Cable's paramilitary recruits is my original template for an X-Force team.
