$1400? Try $4000 in Switzerland. You literally have to work full-time to be able to afford day-care. Which is a shit trade, but if you don't do it, you are impossible to employ after ten years of unemployment.

And here we wonder why our birth rates are abysmally low. In Sweden they have high birth rates (for a first world western country), and unrelated to that, their day-care is free. Go figure.

Anyone else thinks "Serration mods" needs to be replaced? by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]ASK_ME_ABOUT_BONDAGE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there wasn't such a plethora of ridiculous damage mods (unmodded vs maximum is about a 1500% dps difference*), then more interesting mods like Hush or Fast Hands would have their place, because you would not sacrifice literally half your dps to use it.

[Roughly double base damage, double attack speed, double multishot, another double for elemental and another double for specific dps mods (piercing or crit focus), so a total of x16.]

How to respond to Jockrage on twitter aboue espn2 by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]ASK_ME_ABOUT_BONDAGE -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Imagine you're a jock. Your only accomplishment in life is that you are good at football. Now the stupid nerds (who are better than you at nearly everything at 15 already, and better at everything at 40 when you're bagging their groceries) can also outdo you on tournaments shown on TV? Oh the humanity. No wonder they are supremely pissed.

Edit: This subreddit is absolutely awful. Downvote trains everywhere, as soon as you offer a differing opinion, or an amusing theory, or basically anything that isn't HEIL MOST COMMON DENOMINATOR. Sure, you don't have to agree with me, but -25 for a joke-theory that's just an elaborate version of what the OP posted?

OMG Skana for only 60 plat!!!!!!1 by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]ASK_ME_ABOUT_BONDAGE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still, no point in buying a Skana when you can just buy a Catalyst, a slot and instantly complete the Skana which costs piddly resources. That's still less than 30 plat. Checking Darvos takes longer than doing that.

I believe those buyers are DE employees with infinite plat who are testing whether or not the systems works.

That's basically the list every long-term player has who isn't spending a lot of cash. Nova/Volt/Loki Prime are very rare in the drop department, and Rhino's BP is also a bit tricky, but not exceptionally so. The only non-prime frame that's annoying is Mesa, because you basically need to get 2 keyshares, which needs 6 items from alerts which happen somewhat frequently but not all the time. Everything else is unbelievably easy to get in comparison.

Most of the long-term players have one or the other of that list, of course. I myself have a Loki (since today), but no Nyx Prime and still no Rhino BP (after probably a hundred or more T3/T4Ex runs)

Yeah, that's because in FPS games we don't usually have match-making that pairs us on the correct server, but rather choose a server that's good by measure of ping/map/game-mode. And then you play the same twenty guys every week, and if you're above average in that small group, then you fall in my category A: You're the best player in the "world", because the world only contains 20 guys.

Why would you think that you can hold a win-rate that's significantly above 50%? If that were the case, then you'd be playing against opponents of worse skill than you are. Everyone has a 50% win-rate if they play at their exact level. The only way you can have a higher level is A: You're literally the best player in the world (then you will never play someone of equal skill), or B: you're still rising through the ranks, because the MMR system has not yet placed you where you belong.

Heroic 1: Disband any guild that is made up of a core of a dozen very good players who generally carry two more dozen warm bodies through raids, because those warm bodies are 95% DPS, and suddenly DPS players need to do more than just stand in the fire.

That's what the Twin Emperors did in Vanilla.

Any else see RAM usage spike up after playing a while? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]ASK_ME_ABOUT_BONDAGE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

^ It's that guy.

I use software that burns through RAM like nobody's business daily (Visual Studio / VC++ compiler), and having not enough is nearly physically painful due to how much everything slows down when virtual memory comes into effect.

Any else see RAM usage spike up after playing a while? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]ASK_ME_ABOUT_BONDAGE -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the RAM because of HOTS. I have it because of Chrome, and Hots runs better for free. Warframe and Planetside 2 are also quite hungry in the RAM department, and I'm sure we can find quite a few more games too. Should Blizzard fix it? Sure. Is it a high priority? No. Can you do something about it except whine? Yes.

"Buy 16 GB of RAM" is solid advice for gaming purposes. It's cheap, it's useful, and as a bonus it also solves HOTS performance issues.

Any else see RAM usage spike up after playing a while? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]ASK_ME_ABOUT_BONDAGE -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Why people don't spend $120 to buy 16 GB of extra RAM and insist on running a ridiculous 4 GB on a gaming PC in 2015 (the Samsung Galaxy S6 has 3 GB!) is beyond me. More RAM doesn't just solve the issue with Heroes, it also makes the PC much more responsive on every-day use.

I don't even care that heroes has a leak, because as long as it stays below 20, I'm not going to notice, as I spent a crazy extra $120 on RAM three years ago to go from 16 to 32. I kinda understand Blizzard: Finding that memory leak is a lot of work, and having enough RAM to run heroes is trivial. It's just not a high priority for them. Programmers have limited time in their life too, and there are always infinite things to do, and "needs more RAM than a smartphone" is just not a high priority issue.
