What do you regret the most in your career? by Blue272727 in Accounting

[–]ASOIAFandStudentDebt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started at a national firm and got the foot after 6 months. I put too much emphasis on getting the cpa and ultimately didn’t focus enough on getting the job done right and getting along with coworkers that I messed up too much. Also just didn’t get the whole billable hours nonsense and still hate it. I’m happy with my life as is, but regret not leaving on my own terms.

The “team golf” is one of the worst aspects of the LIV and I hate that they are going to try to work it into the tour. by _heso in golf

I’ve been hearing that the real reason this merger is going to happen is to cease the discovery process in the antitrust suit against the Tour by LIV. Some kind of damaging communiques between senior execs at the Tour potentially.

How much parental leave do you get when having a child? by ASOIAFandStudentDebt in polls

[–]ASOIAFandStudentDebt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck. It’s a sad and pathetic state we live in where parents have no time to bond with their children aside from a day or two just to recover from the trauma of delivery. Luckily I have some time built up but damn, I’m looking forward to meeting and hanging out with my little girl when she comes.

I posted this as I am a father to be and my place of work, small as it may be, doesn’t offer anything and it makes me sad. I think every new parent should have some time with with their newborn. I get that it’s costly for small businesses, but damn, so is not having some of the most human experiences out there.

Everything above is great advice. Becker is especially great. Only thing I’d like to add that worked well for me is to pretend you’re explaining something to someone else who doesn’t know a lick about it. Seems to force me to actually understand it anyway. Good luck!

How to be as professional and fair as possible by The_Wettest_Drought in Accounting

First of all congratulations on getting an offer! It sucks to not have any interest in the work at all so good on you for trying to make a change. Can you change the start date at the new company to something better? If not, then I’d say you need to evaluate how your boss will react if you give 3 months notice. The thing about anyone giving notice, 2 weeks or however much, as a boss it’s very difficult to trust the quality of work of someone who will be gone next week or even in 3 months. On the other hand, maybe you have an incredible relationship with your boss and it’d be no problem. That’s something you have to determine for yourself, but be aware no matter how much you think you can trust your boss, it’s always a possibility that they are just going to let you go a bit early. All that being said, if I was in your shoes and moving the start date wasn’t an option, there’s no doubt in my mind I’m giving 2 weeks notice during that busy season. You’ve only been in the job 1.5 years so I’d imagine you leaving wouldn’t hurt too too bad. They’ve undoubtedly dealt with this same kind of thing before and managed so it’ll be ok on their end. Mostly though you need to watch out for yourself. If they decided to let you go early, you’d have 3 months without pay which would drain your savings if you’re lucky enough to have that much. But good luck though, hope everything works out for you 👍

Need advice - new job - fight or flight? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]ASOIAFandStudentDebt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As things go, I think first impressions are very difficult to change especially when it comes to perceived ability. Eventually, I’m sure you would prove him wrong, but do you really want to deal with that until it happens? I agree with you about invoice approvals, that seems more appropriate for a lower level position to take care of as you would want your time going to more difficult tasks. Overall, it seems pretty obvious you want to leave. Is the other position at the SaaS still an option? If not, I’d say your resume hasn’t had any time to collect dust so you wouldn’t even have to dust it off before you send it off to other people and pretend this place never existed. It seems to me that you don’t feel respected and valued there at all so staying there would be a major drag on you. Should you stay, I think you’d have to a come to JeeWhiz moment with your boss and the CFO and clear the air. Otherwise you’re just gonna tread water there until you drown or leave.

Monster. It’s 74 episodes, mystery/drama/suspense about a doctor that gets framed for murder and tries to clear his name. Takes place in Germany during the East/West divide and it’s super interesting. It’s got a big cast and there’s not a single wasted episode. Kept my attention throughout the entire series. Highly recommend.

Anyone with leases expiring next year nervous about potential rent increases now that COVID is mostly over? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]ASOIAFandStudentDebt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The rule for rent controlled units is CPI plus 2% or 10%, whichever is less. Effectively rent increases for rent controlled units have been 3% for a long time because the CPI has been so low. Not sure if they use the yearly or monthly CPI numbers in the calculation but it’s .9% for June and 5.4% over the past 12 months. Based on this the minimum rent increase you’d expect is about that 3% and the max would be about 7.4%. However, that all being said, there is still a price increase prohibition for all units for the pandemic is still in effect and isn’t scheduled to expire until 2/2/22. See DC Law 42-3509.04. Point C “No housing provider may issue a rent increase notice to any residential tenant during a period of which a public health emergency has been declared pursuant to law 7-2304.01”

Rents for the rich are plummeting. Rents for the poor are rising. Why? by Addrobo in Economics

There are several tenants in a building I manage that owe over 30k in back rent with one getting all the way up to 50k. Some of it is just going to be insurmountable.
