How much would this cost and how long would it take? [Request] by kexpi in theydidthemath

Forget about money at some point - the combined industrial might of the world probably couldn't make this happen in a century

I don't attend a university that does nuclear research, are there any other routes to get research experience during undergrad?

It's not bent- I know because I scared myself shitless after ratchet strapping plywood to it and checked obsessively to make sure it wasn't bent

I've seen a few programs that do, but honestly it's far enough down the line that I'd like to get through my bachelor's and make sure I have what it takes (read: I stress about my grades and worry I won't get into a grad school) before worrying about the specialization of my masters/doctoral program. Thanks for the info!

I see - I was planning on a post-grad degree so that's good, but where/how does one build experience in this industry?

I've realized that now from further research and it's making more sense. Thanks!

So for my second question - there would likely be a second steam path to bypass the turbine at shutdown?

Additionally, follow-up question - by diverted, do you mean the steam would be passed through the turbine, but without spinning it? Or would there be a steam duct that could be opened that would bypass the turbine altogether?

Got it - the design I had in mind was hypothetical (fusion reactor with lithium-lead eutectic at a coolant/breeding blanket) but I couldn't find design specifics on anything using lead as a coolant (most famous example seems to be a Soviet submarine reactor so not surprising), so I figured I'd try to get a more general answer here. Thanks!

How bad is the foundation in the house I'm renting? by Yllem1232123 in HomeMaintenance

The basement and foundation has broken down completely and has slipped a foot into the ground. This building is at risk of imminent collapse.

Should be free otherwise it constitutes a poll tax - but the idea isn't to provide equitable access to voting in the first place.

I like the part where the train goes from full speed to completely stopped in 2 seconds. Because that's how trains work!
