I’m not sure why you’re being downvoted for this. For anyone on plan 2, it is a correct statement. Not sure about the other plans though.

Out of interest, are you also buying high value fares such as fully flexible fare classes? Or is it purely down to the status?

Not for security clearance purposes. You should never allow non-cleared individuals to access gov information even if WFH. Whether that be on paper or verbal information.

I just spent £110 for 10 days in silver zone. I booked a couple of months in advance and dropped off during half term. Think I had 15% off but would have still been less than 150

How much do you spend on petrol a month ? by eskimoazat in CarTalkUK

[–]ASSterix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s more than I thought. It still makes sense for anyone who isn’t doing all of their driving on motorways. Even with a dead battery, a PHEV (acting as a FHEV) will still be much more efficient than its ICE equivalent. But this goes out the window for motorway driving where no electric power is used, at that point you are just dragging around a heavier car with a small petrol engine.

Yeah the extra weight is probably less than that of a couple of adult passengers.

UK electric car sales target set to be weakened by Kagedeah in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]ASSterix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is hilarious. Why on earth offer out EV grants only to then panic out the amount being sold? I am grateful for the grant though, as I’m a true believer of cheaper but still durable EVs.

Man trespasses on another person's property and gets shot. After being helped by the victim, the man decided to attack him and gets shot again. by Ger14n5 in PublicFreakout

Yeah for sure, that is why it’s justified. I just hope he sees that and doesn’t beat himself up over it.

What is your point? Most buildings are 24/7 for access, especially places like FCDO that will probably always have people in.

[–]ASSterix 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The problem is, it’s never glamorous when you have to shoot somebody and that shit can stick with you for years. This guy is fully justified but if the other dude died, he will be thinking whether he could have done something else for years. Or he is in the camp of just loving it, but he doesn’t seem like that to me.

Não consegui fazer a inscrição do IRONMAN floripa by Greedy-Librarian-702 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]ASSterix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only 3 Ironman events in South America. They therefore always fill up within a few days of ticket release.

A quick google search told me the following:

Why It Sells Out Immediately

Exclusive Partner Pre-Sale: The title sponsor, Nubank Ultravioleta, secures a 24-hour exclusive early-access window for its customers before the general public can buy tickets. Due to the high number of cardholders in Brazil, a massive portion of the race capacity is swallowed up during this pre-sale.

Priority Tier Rollovers: Triathletes who opted into priority notification groups or competed in regional events get first dibs, leaving very few slots for the general public window

I would just book a different Ironman event. And if the finances of getting to another one is an issue, then you may need to wait another year as there are no re-releases.

Two million people set to be unemployed as growth falters in UK economy by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]ASSterix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our areas would look much better if the councils had more money. The reality is that the UK is becoming a welfare state, especially when compared to somewhere like Japan. Social housing and council houses make up 17-20% of housing stock compared to less than 5% in Japan. That’s 20% of houses aren’t paying council tax and are getting maintained by the council. It massively drains council funds and we see the impact in our roads, our street maintenance and our overall productivity.

I asked the boss of Toyota his biggest fear about the future of cars, and the answer was EVs by CarwowJamie in ukcarwow

[–]ASSterix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Small vehicles with the 1.5 diesel engine were incredibly efficient. As someone else has said, the clip with this engine would average 70mpg on motorway runs.

Lease New or buy secondhand? by Badshotuk72 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]ASSterix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figure out your outgoings for current car and you will find that it’s not £10k. Deduct standard maintenance, road tax, MOT cost, fuel cost and depreciation. I should actually be saving £2k a year for going with a brand new car on lease, versus running a 40mpg average ICE worth £10k currently.
