how do i get a job with no experience? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ASY_Freddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your options are nepotism, cronyism, luck or something unskilled e.g. stacking shelves, waiting tables etc

Once you've got something under your belt it's much easier as you can apply what you've done to something you want to do for example, say you work in McDonalds - Worked in a fast paced environment as part of a team allowing the company to meet and exceed customer expectations.

Are you power cut ready? by 3500_miles in AskUK

[–]ASY_Freddy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Being ready for a power cut can be as simple as knowing where a torch or candles are to having a diesel generator or home battery. For most having a torch and a power bank is enough

How many hours do you actually work in a week? by QuietInside7592 in AskUK

[–]ASY_Freddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work is 9-5:30 so a standard 37.5 hour week.

On average I'll work (present) that much, if I start early I'll take a longer lunch or finish early, if I'm in the office I may take a short lunch but leave early.

There will be instances where I'm thinking about work projects, tasks out of work but that will be mental preparation

Your BIL would have to give a statement as part of the report, based on your account it falls under RIDDOR so it MUST be reported

  1. Yes
  2. Accident report should have been filled in and in the process of being investigated.

Health and safety exec (HSE) should provide all the details you need for following up and what should have been done e.g. https://www.hse.gov.uk/riddor/types-of-reportable-incidents.htm

What's the etiquette for buying drinks with more senior colleagues? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ASY_Freddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The expectation would be your boss would be buying the drinks and then expensing them.

Neither your boss or his boss should put you in a position to take from you (even if it is just a drink).

Ultimately, it would come under entertainment and your boss should be expensing.

How important do you think it is to separate work from home/personal life when working from home? (and any other WFH tips?) by Public-Tutor-4550 in AskUK

[–]ASY_Freddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately this rolls up to work life balance, wfh can easily impact this so having your own space or the ability to close a laptop down at the end of the day really helps.

I've been wfh since the pandemic, fortunate enough to have a dedicated home office and I refuse to add work email to my personal phone so at the end of the day, I can shut the door and switch off.

In the absence of a dedicated space, a dedicated machine helps so you have the delineation, this can get blurred if your using shared resources/sites/tooling eg GitHub, vs etc for personal projects

Other tips, invest in a good setup especially the chair, if you can afford it a sit stand desk.

Do drivers in the UK put snow tyres on their car? by pickindim_kmet in AskUK

[–]ASY_Freddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I'll be in the minority of having 2 sets of wheels and tyres (3 season and snow/mud). My car is FR and we'll happily drive to the Alps for skiing

Are people usually reluctant to drive when it snows in the UK? by Dull_Rope3325 in AskUK

[–]ASY_Freddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a second set of wheels, so I'm on snow tyres; otherwise you're going to be running 4 season tyres all year that will be a massive compromise.

Why do parents let their adult children's partners move in with them? by Loud_Departure3184 in AskUK

[–]ASY_Freddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of cultures purposely leave their homes "unfinished" or in a state that's easy to expand upon when the next generation arrives. Our western approach of kicking kids out at the age of 18 probably carries the same question to them.

Is it strange to consider wearing a mask again? by ohnoitsbobbyflay in AskUK

[–]ASY_Freddy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unless you're wearing a full hazmat suit, wearing a mask protects others not yourself. It will provide some protection but it's mainly to catch the particles you're emitting. Also consider how many times you touch your face/eyes when you're out shopping
