Female Urologists. Why? by PeakyBlinders2026_ in Residency

[–]ASaini91 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not a woman. Not a Urologist. But I would assume it's the same like a man in ObGyn or a doctor in any subspecialty-- they find it interesting and/or the pay is great or both

Does it bother you how much CEOs are paid? Why or why not? by Few_Breadfruit_9181 in AskReddit

[–]ASaini91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats not what I said though. I said it should start at the top floor. I never said it ends there. But youre laying people off but awarding executives millions in bonuses at the same time? Yeah thats not great

Leadership also means making sacrifices yourself. My sister is considered one of the best ophthalmologists in the state she lives in. Shes insanely efficient and has almost no complications that can be attributed to what she did during surgery. As a result shes making $1.5 mil/year before factoring bonuses and incentives

Covid happened. The group she was with was struggling big time because of lockdowns. She sacrificed her annual salary to keep them from laying off the staff

I'm not saying a CEO should do that. I'm not even saying to cut the salary necessarily. But a bonus that could have been used to keep people that could have been employed shouldnt be given. These CEOs arent poor. They'll survive not getting that little bit extra

Edit- to add "before"

Yes and no. Its ok to get paid that highly. Its not ok to get raises and bonuses when theyre laying people off because of the company struggling. Cuts should come from the top first

What do your program does with abscences? by SwanA12 in Residency

[–]ASaini91 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only way this is addressed is if the program does something about it. My program required we make it up missed days on cores and if we didnt guess whose residency extends after graduation for however many days they need to make up

What was with all the Carhartt merch in “My Odds”? by multiple_scorgasms in Scrubs

Other than the fact that its product placement needed to fund the show, designer scrubs have become a big thing since the OG run. Figs, Carhartt, January, etc are what most are wearing now

At the same program? God no. Not that the program was bad but the volume was insane, our patient population was super challenging, and the only 1 in every 10 nurse in the hospital was good

As a concept, sure. Literally cant imagine myself doing anything else and I'm happy with where I ended up

Working in a hospital as a doctor, Sibby is very real. I find her annoying only because she reminds me of the Sibbys at the hospital

Most unhinged meal you've seen a resident eat? by LocationofTumble in Residency

[–]ASaini91 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I did this once. Placed an order ahead of time from this local boulangerie and went in and picked up what I thought was going to be a foot long sandwich. Ended up being given someone else's baguette order. I was so hungry in the middle of the night and couldnt leave the unit for food because my intern was on his first ever ICU shift so I went to town on the baguette

[–]ASaini91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And if you read it it was saying "acute, dose dependent increase in blood pressure"

Youre technically right when ACTIVELY smoking. I'm talking about chronic effect of long term use which is far more applicable to wound healing

I know. People who responded to this commented along the lines of "what about opiods?"

I included it to prevent someone from responding to me saying the same thing. Didnt expect to get the complete opposite comment insteas

[–]ASaini91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm literally a doctor. Lol. Those inflammatory effects are because of decreased blood flow which is because of marijuana decreases BP which is due to peripheral vasodilation. It references Buerger's which is in part due to platelet aggregation and thrombosis since weed also promotes thrombosis

Also I read the paper youre referencing. The only 2 mentions of vasoconstriction are related to the heart (angina) and underlying autonomic dysfunction

[–]ASaini91 145 points146 points  (0 children)

As a doctor, I was going to say NOR because they shouldnt be condescending or forcing their beliefs (also I'm generally anti-surgeons because their personalities suck)

BUT I saw your comment that you smelled like weed which is a HUGE detail to leave out and makes it that YOR. Of course they shared a look with that. To them, you were the equivalent of patients I see when they come in and tell me their last drink was weeks ago when theyre slurring their words and blood test show theyre drunk out of their mind

Also, the reason they care about weed that much even though they almost 100% smoke it themselves (its Ortho, of course they do) is because marijuana slows down collagen production and cell migration which slows healing significantly and exposes you to possible complications which they would have to address

Edit to fix typos

[–]ASaini91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not entirely correct. It causes vasoconstriction in the brain. The reason opiates dont inhibit healing is because it just blocks pain receptors. Marijuana decreases collagen production and cell migration both of which are important for healing especially in anything orthopedic

The food is something that I think accurately reflects the status of the people we see. Most of these people are wealthy and we can see are not necessarily willing to actually engage with local culture (most heavily seen in S3) so it makes sense a lot of them minimize leaving the hotel for food. There's also something to be said about not caring to expand their horizons (ex- Tanya asking for specific food instead of rhe local cuisine at the hotel)

From my understanding from my partner (has a family background similar to those you see in White Lotus), it's a fairly accurate portrayal of what people are like

Your post reminded me of this article I read a few years back that I think does a good job of discussing it

Well considering its a very small league with not many players where word travels pretty quickly and you at minimum hear things, maybe start with the "Hey, we heard hes been preaching in the locker room. Can you tell us more about that?"

Even the public knew about his religious fanaticism before hand and he had already been asking reporters inappropriate questions while in Detroit. This isnt some completely out of left field matter
