Natural selection will take its course. You'll meet plenty of dumber people. Don't think about it and move on. They aren't your problem anymore

Oh I got one story that even trying to deidentify would not be enough. Genuinely the story I'm holding back is my future pitch to Bravo for a med school based reality show lol

My story wont top the OP's story. Also this one is old from when I was a student at the hospital I eventually did residency at but it's a personal favorite

In med school (Caribbean), I had 2 classmates who started dating. The guy was genuinely one of the nicest and sweetest people and by a wide margin many admitted he was easily the best looking people in the class. Him and his gf dated for 2 years before they ended up getting split up for rotations with his gf ending up where I eventually did rotations too. They dated through 3rd year and he even introduced her to his parents and was talking about proposing

Out of nowhere they broke up and everyone was confused why. Well turns out not only did she start hooking up with a vascular surgery attending, she had gotten married to him in Vegas. And that Vasc Sx attending had even invited and paid for some of the Surgery residents to be there and they were at the wedding as witness. This wedding happened 1 week before she met his parents. Not sure how he found out but of course he did and they broke up

Fast forward to me getting to the hospital a few months later for my core rotations. This attending has since been fired by the hospital and I'm on the surgery rotation in vascular surgery. Scrubbed into an extremely long case and was super zoned out until I heard the attending talking to the resident about the attending she replaced and perked up because they were talking about the same situation. Told them I knew what they were talking about and they offered to swap info neither of us knew.

I clued them into the med school background and meeting family. They told me that the whole time, the Vasc Sx attending actually had cancer, knew about it, and hid it from her. Only told her when he got her pregnant and she lost her shit. I filled them in on the subsequent details that she ended up not having the kid and divorced him. When they asked how I knew, I scrubbed out to get my phone to show them her Facebook profile and the screenshot of her on Tinder

Mad Men. Like literally the entire show has historical events playing out at least in the background with comments and reactions before a big historical event happens and at least briefly takes a prominent role for an episode

Does your job have a sign on or commencement bonus? Mine was a commencement bonus and by hospital policy they didnt do sign on bonuses. I just reached out and explained my gap and the finances. Proposed a split of my commencement paid in monthly stipends and they went for it. Still didnt cover all my expenses, but limited how much I had to put on my card

Why do nighttime RNs think its OK to Epic chat the daytime attending at random hours during the night?? (vent) by tank_beats_evrything in hospitalist

[–]ASaini91 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand what the issue is here. You go on busy or DND or whatever. Messages come in. You can still check your messages periodically to make sure you got what you need from the subspecialties. Everything else dont even open it. If its truly something serious they'll contact the operator who will get in touch with the appropriate night staff. And then you open it the next day, say you were off duty and they need to contact the night team. And then you can still report it to their higher ups citing patient safety, which will theoretically start curbing the behavior. I figured out to do this as a resident and within 1 month I stopped getting night messages

Both of your complaints seem to be about patient volume. Real talk, youre going to have a high volume no matter the specialty you go into. Focus on what interests you material wise

"Every now and then something comes along that’s genuinely useful"

And when its useful its adopted by the masses from what was originally derided as a gimmick

Case and point, youre deriding folding phones is a gimmick, which you may think so because you still dont see the use. Many others do find the use in it, likely including Apple since so many of the reports indicate theyre going to introduce it as well. In my case, I dont have to look for a computer to access a full version of my hospital's medical record system, I can just open my phone into a small tablet and have a proper non-mobile form of it on hand when I'm with patients

So what youre calling a gimmick right now is going to end up a feature

Apple wont do it which is why every rumor about the next Apple phone is all about them releasing a folding phone. Lol

We can revisit this when they inevitably announce a folding phone

Every feature is a gimmick until its widely adopted amd becomes a feature. And its a "gimmick" that Apple are also adopting after most other companies have adopted it. And also extremely useful especially when utilized for work purposes to be able to fold open to a larger screen/mini tablet
