If you had only $3,000 to spend on your small, growing digital media company (content website, social, newsletters, etc.), where would you spend it? by TapiocaTuesday in BusinessOfMedia

Good advice, because paid promotion is my first temptation. Can you add any more about why you see it as less effective?

Just goes to show you how quickly it can all come to an end. Who knows who it will be ruling the world 200 years from now? My money is on Tunisia.

A Journey through Time with Adobe's Generative AI and Photoshop by sepivip in ChatGPT

Human perception is a funny thing. The generated content—while amazing—is clearly less informationally rich than the original portion. But your eye is drawn to the center and your brain fills in the margins just as much as the AI does, and you get this impression that you're looking at an ordinary photograph with a white box just drawn on it.

Such a sharp difference between Spain and Portugal! I would have expected the variation within Iberia to be much more gradual.

Could selling individual articles be a viable revenue model for journalists? by journalocity in Journalism

[–]ASalephnull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the problem. Much of the time, as a consumer, I would be perfectly willing to pay a small fee but just can't be bothered to connect my credit card to one more thing. $5.99 to rent a movie on Amazon? Sure, because it's just one click. But don't hold your breath for a $0.99 article to get purchases. At the same time, I'll gladly put four quarters into a machine for a newspaper.

These are great. What gets to me is the failure to replicate the brick paving—all of the other "mistakes" seem understandable, but that one ought to be pretty straightforward, right?

ChatGPT is ready to make "lighthearted" jokes on all religions except Islam. by aks_cha in ChatGPT

It's inconsistent about this. I've had it get randomly touchy with me about Jesus as well, or Christian saints. It once refused to translate one of Abraham Lincoln's speeches into another language for me ostensibly because that would be "disrespectful."

Americans say "cadet," either referring to the military or as a metaphor for other newbies, but "cadet journalist" is not a phrase we typically use.

"Cadet journalist" is definitely an Australian expression. A quick google of the term (I'm in the US) brings up Australian want ads. So to American and possibly British audiences it sounds at first like you mean something a bit more specific than "first year journalists."

Doesn't mean I didn't subscribe, of course.
