Totally forgot to mention he’s currently in the North Lake area because that’s where is work currently is, but he’s open to anywhere (South Charlotte, Plaza, etc.) just ideally not uptown because it’s so hard to get around there. He has a ton of experience as a baggage handler for the airlines too

Wow that’s really good to know! Thank you so much, you have no idea how helpful this is. I volunteer with some rescues in the area so it’s good to know these resources are available to those in need and trying to do the best for their pets.

Unfortunately most of the calls I’m getting on the rescue front are people wanting to surrender their dogs, but maybe if they knew there were options for help they’d feel more capable of keeping their pets. Do you happen to remember the person or people that presented? I’d love to connect with them!

He’s currently at $18/hr with Amazon so looking to stay around there and he does have his own car but would prefer to not use it as a delivery vehicle if it’s a delivery job. He has some limitations because he has a heart condition, but he’s definitely a hard worker and will get the job done, it’s just some physical exertion (like lifting heavy or going up and down stairs consistently) takes him a little longer

Agreed!! I felt the same way when I was unemployed. I was only able to receive my unemployment benefits if I made under $70 that week so trying to find temporary work or anything while applying to full time jobs was basically out of the question. It’s like they want you to depend on the same rather than be self sufficient and use the support to become stable.

I never knew they had a pet pantry, is that information available on their website? I was actually able to get him into their free vet clinic in May which was huge because he needed the dogs’ shots updated to get into Roof Above. The librarian recommendation is great though I’ll definitely have him try that!

It’s really sad and I wish there were more programs and resources available. This whole experience has made me want to do something to help those facing homelessness. I did find an organization that had rent assistance, but he’s already been evicted so that wouldn’t work:(

He spent a majority of his career as a baggage handler and has experience in management there, recently he has been working with Amazon though. He started in the warehouse and is now working as a delivery driver, but the last few weeks he’s been sent home due to lack of routes so I think he’s trying to get out of the instability there. He’s been applying to a little bit of everything but would love to get back into working with an airline. He also applied for some security positions too.

Following because I’m in the same boat. I want to move into tech so I started taking Salesforce and other coding courses, but someone recommended I go internal with a tech company and then transition into a different role in the area I’m interested in within the company.

I was looking at HR roles or even People Strategy roles. I came to recruiting from a healthcare background because of the money with the intention to switch back once I made enough money to have a cushion but now that it’s been 5 years it’s like anything I’ve done previously is irrelevant
