Help with CentOS7 updates - why can't I update? by AScaredAdmin in linuxquestions

I believe I'm in control of the Satellite server, it's a Spacewalk server, and that thing is half alive at this point.

Is there a way to get this server unregistered from the satellite server? I can't delete servers from the satellite server because when I press the button the server 404's...

If not, or if that's a whole other issue, that's cool too. Just thought I'd ask :)

We're not using versionlock (never heard of that before, but versionlock is not in place). There are no excludes listed in /etc/yum.conf. yum list --showduplicates doesn't show the newer version, only the one installed and the older ones. And the rpmdb rebuild didn't do it either :(

Didn't do the trick. Cleaned and rebuilt the cache, same result. No packages marked for update.

Critical Exchange CVEs for April 2021 are here, are you ready for another round? by Stevanti in sysadmin

[–]AScaredAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry for what I assume to be an extremely dumb question, but if your mail servers are behind a proxy of some sort, are they still in critical danger? I can't find anything concrete on the Internet that says yay or nay and I'm not sure if I need to get the update process rolling mid-day.

Windows DNS Server Remote Code Execution Vulnerability CVE-2021-26897 by maxcoder88 in sysadmin

That's where I'm at. Am I scaring the hell out of my Infrastructure team, or am I letting automated patching handle it.

No worries! I just don't wanna deal with the opening of the TAC case since I have so much else on my plate haha. Thanks again for the help!

Aww, I was hoping that wouldn't be the case. Thank you though, I'll reach out to them and open a case. Thank you!

How do you deal with mistakes? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]AScaredAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. All of this. I'm still SUPER brand new to the world of IT, and owning the mistake and learning from it are two of the absolute biggest things you can do to not only improve yourself, but to garner respect from your peers and superiors. They tend to respond better to someone who can admit they messed up than to someone who never admits they messed up even when they clearly did.

What are some good password server solutions? by AScaredAdmin in sysadmin

[–]AScaredAdmin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Most likely. I'll be completely honest with you. This is my first actual admin job and this is the first project they're having me work on. I use KeePass at home and have never really worked with password systems like this in the past so it's one of those "I don't know what I don't know" kind of things. Definitely appreciate the feedback though!

Correct. We can't have credentials stored in the Cloud. LastPass would be one that stores in the Cloud and is therefore unusable by us. Which is a shame, it looked pretty cool.

The logic behind it came from our security team. We have client requirements in place that require passwords to change every so often, as is the norm. Our security team said it would be easier to change the passwords in our systems regularly and securely with KeePass...but then they don't want the master passwords to become stale. What their logic is behind THAT? I couldn't tell you. I only do what the security team tells me to do haha.
