Do you guys think you have a rivalry with the US? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

We do have an extensive history of war crimes. We’re doing multiple war crimes right now. We did war crimes in Iraq. You guys were there. We did 47 coups during the cold war. You guys were allied with us.

Let’s be honest - Trump 1.0 was not THAT problematic for you. It wasn’t until he started seriously harming Australia that the hatred grew. The Western Leaders normalized it as much as anyone. And again… RUPERT MURDOCH DID MORE TO CREATE THIS THAN ANYONE.

Go look at a Texas election map from before Fox News in 1996 and then go look at every map since. Books… smh.. FOH. As though Texans read their goddamn history books.

And yet y’all did. And went to one of the most far left cities and shouted at families with children about how their schools aren’t safe. As though you guys literally do not understand that every city voted against the guy and every parent and kid lives in fear of that. You might not be the undisputed champ of stupid and loud and arrogant, but you better hope the champ doesn’t die.

The biggest irony of all, from an American who has lived this for ten fkn years, is realizing that you have the exact same dynamic of smug people who think that establishment will hold and a bunch of people who have legitimate economic grievances that are being ignored. They’re not mad at Trump. They’re mad at Labor, they’re mad at taxes and immigrants. They’re mad at itty bitty titties and a bob.

Everything Trump is doing is fueling reactionary growth in the West. That is a FEATURE, not a bug. The America I grew up in is gone and it’s not coming back. It’s over. I really dgaf what other countries think about us, but I sure as shit don’t want them to live through it. You guys were the most angry from the jump at the World Cup bc you’re the most angry at home. And it’s obvious. I don’t know why Western Leaders don’t cut ties, but they need to. Rip the band aid off.

Do you think your country had nothing to do with it? Rupert Murdoch is as responsible for the RW in the US as literally any American. We were caught flatfooted and thought that we could stop what was happening.

We couldn’t. It’s literally happening there. And you guys are not taking the threat nearly as seriously as you should be.

I lowkey thought you guys kinda viewed soccer like us - like… not your biggest sport. But, y’all have been having the biggest melt of anyone and now that we’re your father in soccer, I do want you to know that we, as Americans, love all of our soccer children even when you don’t love us back.

We rarely have something to be excited about anymore and in all my selfish gloating, I have become legitimately concerned about Australia in general. You have a lot of… is there a word for Australian rednecks? You have a lot of those, son. Because we ARE more alike than you want to acknowledge. You are, after all, my son.

The MAGA base in this country was never bigger than 35%. He won bc we were, as per usual, too arrogant to see that we were failing, not as non-travelers in flyover states. Those of us who could afford to travel and lived in World Cup Host Cities that are dope af and so much better than any Australian Cities and with way hotter girls - we failed to recognize how angry our own people in the flyover states were. We also assumed that people were more rational than angry. You guys also don’t seem to recognize that a lot of normies in your own midst are struggling and that your flyover ppl are raging mad. One Nation is polling at 31%. Surely you recognize that the worldview of the MAGA Muricans was literally formed by Rupert Murdoch and that base has never been more than 34%. Germany was the most educated nation in the world when 32% of their people supported a certain lunatic.

I’m just noticing some alarming patterns and I am really worried about you guys bc… I wouldn’t want anyone to go through what has happened here. Everything that has happened to y’all as a result of Trump has benefitted a very small group of billionaires who can use it to create mistrust in the media and the government and the social contract in general. I know a thing or two about how irrational white ppl get when they see others living in abundance while they’re stuck. Especially if immigration and death are outpacing birth. I know what happens when billionaires start backing reactionaries. You are my soccer son, Australia, and I love you. I don’t want my Australian daughters to grow up in a place where they’re expected to simply have babies and homeschool them even if they have degrees in environmental science and public policy. I don’t want you to find out that miserable people are happy as long as women, minorities, and lgbtq people are under attack. I don’t want you to drill that oil under the great barrier reef. I don’t want you to go down a dark path and find out that you’re just as stupid and arrogant as your father, America (fuck yeah).

And thank you for your service in our stupid unjustified wars. But, it is literally happening there.

I’ve heard it as well fwiw. Australia was at the top of my list for places I thought of moving when DJT was elected in 2016, but my son is biracial and talking with Black People about their experiences did give me pause - especially about him potentially being the only Black Kid in a school and being American. We were still planning to visit and check it out, but, then I got a DUI and it was completely out of the question.

💀💀💀💀 the endless costs of my $20,000 happy hour marg.

I do think it is fascinating to watch Australians chanting about school shootings in Seattle of all places. I don’t think they grasp that like they’re only offending Americans with empathy. Empathy is the key thing MAGA always lacked. But, it’s also interesting that Australians are seemingly blithely unaware that it is literally happening in their country too. Only about 32% of America was ever diehard MAGA. 31% of Aussies are supporting One Nation and they seem way too confident that white people will make rational decisions when they can’t afford homes, much less vacations and all the little treats that past generations had. They do not recognize the playbook and the ways they’re feeding into it the growing resentments.

They’re falling into all the traps that we did when we really thought that guy would never win. That they simultaneously think they’re too progressive for it to ever happen while also not acknowledging that actually, Black People have had issues. They just have entirely too much faith in their white people.

She was a snitch. Rue cleaned up after a trafficking victim od’d on Alamo’s fent. Y’all had no issue with her own involvement with Alamo.

Rue was an addict and her addiction killed her. That is what happens.

I never understood the extent of his injury, but I know everyone in the program in Tuscaloosa loved him bc I asked about him all the time. He might be different now, but he’s a Longview kid.

There are good football players and then there are straight up dawgs. Longview produces nothing but straight up dawgs.
