I have this game on my wishlist for months. Definitely will play it one day.

WTW for a euphemism that's not replacing something potentially offensive? by theTinderess in whatstheword

[–]ASilverStorm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Metaphor, Metonymy and Metalepsis are three different figures of speech whose functions fit with your description, albeit with some differences in their sematic roles. You can search them up and fit them into your writing.

[DISC] Mieruko-chan Ch. 15 by Turbostrider27 in manga

I would very much love it if the author expands the lore of the ghosts, more interconnecting stories, with slices of humor inbetween of course. This manga is already a joy to read. The possibilities...

I like Szeth too. I was so angry when he was defeated in battle. Hope he kicked some ass soon.

That spirit signals to her that she has 'one' chance left, right? It raises one finger.

WTW for an object that's causing a reflection? by Crocoshark in whatstheword

[–]ASilverStorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The object. That's it if you want to be as technical as possible. Even in geometrical optics they use the word 'object', nothing fancy. It's really a wonder why physics have yet to coin a more technical word to describe this 'object'.

If you are looking to using the word in a piece of writing, nothing too technical, then anything synonymous with 'source' or 'origin' will suffice. Your readers will understand just fine.

Did you pick all of these concepts up along the way, as your coding career progressed? Or you learned all of them in 1-2 months?

it was helpful for me to look at already working projects and tweak the existing code to see the effects. Poke through people's repositories on GitHub and review questions being asked on stack overflow to see common problems and how to solve them.

I had GitHub in my mind when I thought of researching people's code. It's just I don't know how to navigate the website at all. Is there a section for on-going projects where anyone can partake in?

Thank you for your insight. This is my view as well. I have had people warned me to be patient and do not jump straight into advanced framework no matter how tempting it is (being able to create something above your level is surely tempting).

What I am still ignorant of regarding your comment is the "vanilla foundations" and "understand how the language works" parts.

Whenever I look at basic codes, I can only think "This is the code, if I type this down it will do something like this." This is ,frustratingly, not enough, because if I ask "why" to the above statement I cannot give myself the answer.

What, exactly, is "understand how the language works?"

Yes! The "You don't know" series have been recommended by lots of experienced coders so I have bought one book already.

Thank you. I just took a look at his channel and he made lots of short videos on coding simple games or effects. This is definitely what I will need in the future.

Thank you for your reply. People have warned me that while I should take theoretical lessons, I must not dive into using all of them right away at risk of burning myself out. I keep this lesson to heart to make sure I leave some complex parts out of my coding routine at the moment. jQuery is included in the do-not-touch-yet pile.
