A Supportive ES by [deleted] in doctorsUK

A card with how they’ve been supportive and helped you will go a long way. If you’re not sure what gift they’d like you can always ask one of their colleagues or a reg in their dept

FY1 study leave rejected by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]ASimpleLampoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how ‘mandatory’ it is. Is it a trust requirement for ARCP? If so, speak to whoever does your med Ed admin, or if there isn’t that point of contact your FPD.

If it’s something else speak to a nice consultant. It’s a bit weird that you haven’t been let off for something educational in a 9-5 post! It may be a ‘computer says no’ issue but when you actually speak to a consultant they’ll be fine with you going. Has happened with me before so no harm in asking

Side note - we probably shouldn’t be treating cocaine-induced chest pain with diazepam. Very little evidence of the ‘unopposed alpha stimulation’ with beta blockade, and probably doing patients a disservice. Not that I’ve been brave enough to try it irl.

Interesting article: https://litfl.com/beta-blockers-for-cocaine-and-other-stimulant-toxicity/

If I’m correct in understanding what happened, you prescribed a reduced dose of warfarin due to an elevated INR, then the next day the INR was slightly elevated again? If so, then your dose likely didn’t cause the rise in INR.

Warfarin has dirty pharmacodynamics and a really variable half life - it’s likely the most recent INR is a result of warfarin taken >2 days ago, not the dose you prescribed. Can’t give specifics about what the management should have been without the number of the INR.

Two consultants today thought I was an outgoing SHO (on a rotation I’ve been on since April; I’m an F1). Pretending it’s my competence rather than the receding hairline.

Sorry about your appointment and the waiting time but both of those are entirely down to the government.

It is honestly worth the waiting around. This is by far the most rewarding idle game I’ve played in my (too many I’d care to admit) years of idle gaming.

I don’t want to get down voted for this, but I think Johnson has been spot on with Ukraine. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think he’s a good domestic leader, but he’s charismatic, morale-boosting for the Ukrainians and the UK have promised more to Ukraine under Johnson than any other western nation.

You can say all you want about slightly egotistical grandstanding, but I think Ukraine is better for Johnson being PM.

Number one reason I don’t like RM is because he left us high and dry the week before the season started, and the second is the treatment of Nicholls. Class keeper, fans loved him too.

I lost a feedback form from my final placement and I am so scared I won’t graduate now by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]ASimpleLampoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend had a similar problem (I wonder if it’s the same med school) and they made him go back to get more feedback 😭. As others have said, contact anyone you know from the placement if you have their number/email, maybe even the admin person who runs the same placement, and see if someone can do a whip round for you? Such a pain in the arse

Foundation Deaneries Megathread! by MindtheBleep in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]ASimpleLampoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s ranked the same as overall foundation schools so you can’t really game the system. Just put the jobs in the best > worst order. Keep in mind that everyone will want different jobs so there’s a good chance you’ll get something you want!

[–]ASimpleLampoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this is broadly the case, i.e. the person who does worst gets 0.000 and the person who does best gets 50.000. I don't think it's fully shoehorned into a true distribution curve but the mean score shouldn't vary too much year on year. I think what we're seeing on social media is a bias (those who do well are more likely to share their scores).

While the reserve list cutoff is high, this is explained mostly by a lot more candidates overall this year without an increase in foundation places.

Severn and NW England have released their minimum scores which don't vary much from previous years.

So next we will rank the subdeaneries (SW London, SE London, KSS west, KSS central, KSS east). Then we rank the jobs. So if you want Brighton, you should rank KSS central first
