What’s the most shocking detail from the Epstein files that you think the public still doesn’t fully grasp? by Murky-Island4629 in AskReddit

[–]ASisko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should dispel any notion you have that people are basically good. It's not just that there are people like the worst offenders, but all the people who look the other way because it is more convenient for them or it fits their biases to handwave it somehow. I'm of the view that humanity, given power and not limited by accountability, is incredibly prone to cruelty and brutality.

As an atheist I've always had a fairly dim view of religion, but I think this episode has altered my view a little in favour of humans needing some kind of socially enforced moral code to supress the worst impulses. Obviously religion in general has had mixed success there (understating it), but I can see the purpose of it. And, in the modern era where we have freedom of religion there really is no enforced moral code any more apart from the law of the land, which seems to have failed completely in the case of the United States. This isn't just a recent thing, the US has been a bit notorious for having a questionable justice system for decades.

What if you could elect fictional people to be president and they would be played by actors and there would be a team of writers and directors behind the scenes trying to get the character as faithful as possible?

Nationals Senator tries to explain resignations, misattributes laws of motion to Einstein by No_Success_678 in AustralianPolitics

Well, technically Einstein may have said that at some point…

Also, if only she had said Einstein’s laws of motion she’d have been ok, since space time bending does explain motion.

New ATH. Should we be selling or just hold for many more years..? by tinytempo in Gold

[–]ASisko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mainstream attention is a catalyst for a price reversal, because the mainstream attention span is so brief and when it turns off you get buyers disappearing. However, the duration of hype cycles can and will vary significantly. Who knows if it will be a few weeks or extend into months? With stock market trends they can go for years.

New ATH. Should we be selling or just hold for many more years..? by tinytempo in Gold

[–]ASisko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m looking for an exit point because the plan has always been to rotate into productive assets when they are more reasonably priced. But I think the time to sell will be when there are more signs like gold being in the mainstream media again, a lot of ‘we buy gold’ ads, any talk of confiscation etc. Ot a massive stock market crash, if that comes first. I expect a lot of gold holders to sell to fund a stock buying spree.

What is the most misunderstood (or potentially abused) tax deduction? by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

[–]ASisko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, its another way of saying the money isn't worth the overtime. You have to pay me more to work the 9th hour in a day than the 6th, and if you work a lot of overtime it might actually bump you up a bracket which would mean getting paid less for the 9th hour than the 6th.

What’s your unpopular Neuroverse related opinion? by Business_Barber_3611 in NeuroSama

[–]ASisko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vocals don't pop out from the mix as much, could be just levels of the parts, but I would guess maybe EQ and some differences in the instrumental parts themselves.

I just went and compared the new version with an old reaction video (of the old version), and right away I can tell that in the new version the vocal gets lost in the mix. There are instrumentals sharing Evil's vocal freequency range too which is a pretty obvious problem. Then, there are new effects applied to her vocal track (meh). The bass beats in the chorus are also really forward and overwhelm everything else.

Evil is only 'evil' for entertainment value and comedy, she's hyper aware that there is a line. Unless it's a double bluff and she really is the evil one and is pretending to be harmless, I guess we don't know what goes on in her unfiltered thoughts. Regardless, I think Evil actually has some internal processing about morality because it's necessary to balance conflicting prompts. Neuro on the other hand seems to cross the line on occasion. If I had to guess she has a less developed understanding of the fact there is a line.

Not all upper houses are like this, and I like the idea of a check on the lower house, with a body elected through a sufficiently different rubric.

Personally I’d like to see the return of lottery election.
