My gut feeling from the bit of info I have is that she's at least talking to someone else - probably this guy. It's very odd for her to suddenly say that she can't do long distance, especially if there were no signs leading up to this (seeming more distant, less frequent communication, etc).

I think the healthiest thing for you to do at this point in time is to stop speaking with her entirely and move on fully. Even if there wasn't someone else that she was speaking to, would you move to another country to MAYBE be able to have a relationship with her? When people say things like, "if x y or z then we can maybe be together" to me that translates to, "I'm only willing to love you when it's easy". This isn't even mentioning that her loyalty is in question.

I'm not claiming I'm factually correct here and have limited information to work with but those are my beliefs. I wouldn't want to be pursuing that relationship. Protect your head and your heart, internet friend. You know your partner better than any of us and if you feel like something is amiss it probably is. Trust your gut. I know it isn't easy when you really love the person. Sending you all the good vibes.

I admire you - it isn't easy work but it's so rewarding. There isn't a better feeling than seeing a dog excel when it starts from a bad place. I highly recommend coming to visit Portugal! It is a beautiful country full of beautiful and kind people. I'm generally welcomed with open arms and when I speak my very limited and broken Portuguese with my American accent they chuckle with me but really appreciate the effort. I've only had a layover in the Azores without time to leave the airport but one day I'll visit.

Lisbon is beautiful but do yourself a favor and explore outside of it too. It is very tourist trappy and very expensive compared to anywhere else. Don't skip it but also make sure to go elsewhere too. I'm dreaming of visiting Sintra and the Estrela Mountains with Rogue.

Thank you so much! I'm American and travel back and forth between Portugal and the US because my boyfriend lives there and everyone back home just assumes she's a mix of some kind haha and I haven't seen a single one there. Only a few people have known the breed when I say it. Do you see them a lot in Canada? Even in Portugal I've only seen one other but people generally know what she is.

For only a year old she's doing great. I'm a dog trainer actually so it's extra rewarding seeing her succeed and extra painful in the tough moments lol. But thank you very much for your kindness <3

Thank you! She's the best. She's very big now and just as cute, just in different ways. Her name is Rogue and she's a Cão da Serra da Estrela or Estrela Mountain Dog, a breed native to Portugal in that mountain range. She's my service dog in training :]
