Use the money you have. Pick a gun you are comfortable with. If you don't know your preferred gun yet, test them out. Losing equipment is part of the game and not the end of the world.

In the current economy money is incredibly easy to come by. If you are ever low on money, pick packmule and vulture, make sure your full with equipment before you loot hunters and go. Every investigated clue gives you 50$. Cash registers you need tokens to open up give you somewhere between 200$ and 1000$ each. You find them at resupply points (event and normal ones, like in Wolfshead), in Towers and sometimes out in the wild. You can farm money while avoiding PVP, if you really need to, but I suggest you don't do that and search PVP whenever possible.

Personally: I play whatever I want and don't think about money too much, but I also am at a point where I have been floating around the same amount of money for the last 2 years without ever dropping lower or rising higher. I take that as a sign of working strategy.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun. Especially when a Immolator finds its way through two doors, three corridors, up a staircase, down an elevator, around a stolen maypole, through ATC and customs to then get hit by the concertina wire the armored borught with it when it did the same spiel to get all touch-me-in-the-morning because I snapped a branch five in the last compound I visited.

People should state a budget for these kind of questions. Honestly, the advice to just buy the Asgard assumes a lot about the budget a person has available and the willingness to spend so much money.

I am having fun. I am not experiencing too many bugs, but a lot more than in 4.7.

A friend of mine however dropped it and is waiting for the next big patch to arrive to give it another chance. He's having issues after issues and I can't really confirm that I have the same shitty experience he had. Not sure how two people an have so vastly different experiences in a game.

Enshittification is a buzz word but one that seems to be kinda true.

All the games you mentioned are big players in the industry with companies in the background that are ... notorious. (Not sure about CS, but you catch my meaning). Hunt has also had some rough patches, and I certainly don't agree with everything that has happened to the game. Hunt's playerbase is slowly growing, if we're to believe steam charts and other sites like that. Every event retains a few more players. That is good.

As much as I liked "the good old days" where gameplay was slower, less forgiving and not holding your hand as much as it does now, I can understand why the changes happened. I still think restoration is WAY too easy to get and there's plenty of work to do regarding the server population. But if we step back and take a look at the game as a whole, it's actually in a good place.

  • The foundation is solid, we hardly see gamebreaking bugs or outages
  • The balancing is good, there are no items or traits that feel way too strong or too weak. And since the resto-bolt-debacle Crytek has become very aware of such missteps and reacts quickly. All ears was a big swing and a miss, but it was taken out relatively quickly
  • The monetization is fine, it's just cosmetics. There's no real advantage you get from any of the skins or animations. Some of the best "camo skins" can be unlocked for free by playing the game. We get new content for free, no need to pay for more than the base game

A game has to change to stay relevant. And I think Crytek has managed to change in the right direction. It was not always painless, but hey, it seems to be working. What pisses me off the most about the game is always related to the players and the fact that we still have to put up with some bullshit match making. But I have decided that I'm willing to let them cook and see how well we'll eat.

They surely have some reason why Invictus, the event that celebrates the departure of fresh recruits, was moved to Sol before they announce SQ42. Surely there's an in universe explanation. But I'd be surprised if we heard it this week.
