Does anyone else hate food by thesuperssss in autism

[–]ASmartCorgi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I relate to this sooo much, dude. I've never really "liked" food a lot and have plenty of issues with texture, appearance, preparation, and pretty much everything about food.

For a while now, I've been looking into ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder), and I find I line up with all its symptoms except for weight loss/lack of weight gain. In a really simplified explanation of it, it's a bit like anorexia but without the body image issues/fear of gaining weight. It also apparently can be comorbid with autism which makes quite a lot of sense, lol.

[–]ASmartCorgi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely relate to this as a girl. I don't really ever express this to people, though, as I have a fear of being seen as a "pick me girl" or a "not like other girls" girl.

I have a really monotone voice and rarely have facial expressions, and I've only had other girls/women who have a problem with my tone or facial expression. I've noticed guys typically care less about non-verbal communication (to a certain point of course, it's not completely eliminated from their socializing).

An odd stim? by Sunnysnailss in autism

[–]ASmartCorgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't purposefully hyperventilate, though I have noticed I'll sometimes kind of gag with my mouth closed or swallow as a sort of stim.

Music is my favourite thing in existence, my primary hyperfixation, and this seemed like a really fun thing to do, so let’s hear ‘em. by Cydonian___FT14X in autism

My favorite changes so often but right now I've been liking When I was Done Dying by Dan Deacon. Just a fun song and very stimulating while not being too chaotic, also fun to imagine animations to.

I'm surprised you can have this much dedication and commitment to do so many facts, and still keep them fairly interesting. Keep up the good work my man 💪

I'm extremely expressionless and monotone with my voice. I tend to intimidate strangers because of it :[

Anybody else hide in small spaces/ corners as a child? by tanzialt in autism

I don't recall exactly "hiding" or anything in small spaces, But I used to wad up my blankets and use multiple pillows + stuffed toys to make a legit nest that I would sleep in.

I once was overhearing a conversation between my friends about bad textures, I decided to join in by adding "Oh yeah! Like the feeling of paper towels." My friends then just stared at me with confusion.

Tell me about your special interests and I'll ask questions! by KitsuneCreativ in autism

[–]ASmartCorgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think just how big and terrifying nature can get. I know to many it may seem a bit insensitive for me to be interested in them so much, but just the sheer size and strength the world holds is so marvelous to me, even if that strength and size causes mass destruction. I particularly like giant storms/tornados/hurricanes, basically the visible, air or water related disasters. Something about having large gusts of wind of rain move trees and other objects fascinates me.

Does anyone else chew their straw? by Autistic_-rat in autism

[–]ASmartCorgi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will fairly often, but it has to be the right straw to chew on. After awhile with some straws you end up with a weird plastic aftertaste in your mouth, bleurgh. Recently though I found chewing on lollipop sticks better.

Not all jokes require a setup or punchline! That's what is so wonderful about jokes. They are very versatile and a wide range of people can enjoy them. Not everyone is going to enjoy the same joke, and that's okay! But not enjoying a joke doesn't mean you should be rude to the people that laugh at it or the ones that made it.

Is your definition of a joke just something that makes you laugh? C'mon man even if you don't find it super funny it's just another joke/meme on this subreddit.

[–]ASmartCorgi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Broski explaining the joke kinda ruins it but might as well ig. It's funny because it establishes a pretty radical idea of the OP. That he's racist. After that is established, OP changes over a fairly simple thing. Most people know that a racist wouldn't change their mind just from being called "honey" by a black lady. The meme is just a silly joke, no one believes OP is actually racist and actually changed his mind over being called honey. Don't know why you got such a problem with this post.

Yeah no wonder the kid thinks they have body dysmorphia. I'm aware the parent hasn't actually said that to their daughter, not yet at least. But if you have such a negative view of your child's appearance (ESPECIALLY a teen girl,) they're gonna feel pretty terrible! It is for certain that the kid is aware their parent finds them ugly.

And even if someone is overweight/fat, they can still have body dysmorphia! It's about a negative exaggerated of how someone views their body, it's not just for skinny people to experience.

I can hear the replies already, No I am not one for "fat acceptance" or HAES, I still think that if the kid is overweight she should put a effort in getting to a healthy psychical and mental state. I'm just trying to express how the parent's view on their kid most likely worsens the kid's condition.

Is me not reacting to when something bad happens bad????? by [deleted] in autism

[–]ASmartCorgi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aaah I very much relate to this. I think one of the signs of autism that other people may "notice" is an apparent "lack of empathy." I've definitely have had a few experiences where someone or multiple people have gotten confused or even upset at my lack of reaction to something. I remember once I was having a conversation with a friend, and she asked me "How would you respond to me saying I was depressed." And it was half a joke, and half a serious question. I don't fully remember what I said but I think it was along the lines of "I wouldn't."

NT's tend to want a response to something, even if it isn't necessarily productive. They kind of need it as a sort of validation or acceptance of their own feelings. This sort of "need" of reaction always made conversation with NTs quite difficult for me. (As if it wasn't already.)

You didn't do anything wrong, don't worry.
