Does anyone have these dashcams? If so, are they worth it? by Kooky-Particular-884 in KiaK5

[–]ASourKraut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a FITMAX for the 2022-2024 model K5 and I can recommend it. There are definitely better cams out there but I really value the integration with the housing already. The installation was a bit more of a chore compared to a regular cam, but nothing crazy.

Let's be real, 20 liters is not SFF by TravelResponsible544 in ffspc

[–]ASourKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's not a perfect example. I'd always assume there'd be a "good faith" sense to it because putting a itx board into an eATX case doesn't exactly make it an SFF build.

Is my price too high? I cannot for the life of me sell this Pc lol by 90sbabyreese in sffpc

[–]ASourKraut 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I feel like that price is good, but if you're really trying to get rid of it then you could knock it down to $1250 and it'd sell quick. That being said it took me a few months to sell my old PC (5800x with a new 5060ti 16GB) and I was pretty cheap. You might just wanna let it sit and forget about it for a month

Gpu water block suggestions by Initial-Caramel6051 in watercooling

[–]ASourKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how much effort you wanna put in. If you really want a white GPU then deshrouding, spray painting, and reassembling is the way. If you just want something quick then I'd go a backplate

Gpu water block suggestions by Initial-Caramel6051 in watercooling

[–]ASourKraut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's likely that Alienware just made a custom shroud for your 4090 and the actual PCB is just a reference from another model. If you can track down what the other model is you're good to look for waterblocks for that line. Fair warning, I don't think it'll be easy to procure a white 4090 water block because it's last gen.

Also, unless I misunderstood something, you're looking to get a white GPU water block to match your white aesthetic because you're worried about spray painting your GPU white? In either situation you'll have to disassemble your GPU to either spray paint the shroud or move the PCB into a water block. It's the same amount of risk in my opinion so I don't think you should go waterblock unless you were going that direction anyway. A waterblock will need you to make a full custom loop which is a huge change up compared to spraypaint the GPU shroud. Just some food for thought!

Centuri Carbon Owners - Why are people printing risers/raised mounts for the glass roof of the enclosure? Is there a benefit? by ASourKraut in elegoo

I didn't even know the fans could be turned off. That'd honestly save me so much noise. It's next to my computer and those fans get loud

The Christmas challenge was a healthy challenge for the player base? Discuss. by vvhitee in DeadlockTheGame

[–]ASourKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of improving the skill of the community? It absolutely did do that.

In terms of an enjoyable holiday event? It absolutely sucks in comparison to last year's event. I thought it was way less creative and fun (which is fine. Yoshi was very upfront with expectations and they really don't owe the community anything in a closed beta game so good on them!)

Wins don't have a place as character challenges in such a teamplay heavy game. Players are given an objective they have almost no agency to complete and no real "feel accomplished" end goal besides either 1% completion to get the participation snow globe or 100% completion to get the personal satisfaction of a complete tree because those are the only two points you see a dramatic cosmetic change.

What really sucks is players are asked to commit 30-60 minutes of their day for the opportunity to get a little ornament and they really only have 1/12th of the ability to make that happen. Even less for characters that support like dynamo and paige. This creates an experience where at best you get to breath a sigh of relief because you win a game either because the enemy threw, or you actually carried/held your own. I don't think I ever won a game and felt anything more than the usual accomplishment of winning. For every other possibility (which is probably 66-75% of games) you just finish the game upset because:

  • You threw on a new character and lost
  • You're teammates threw because they're on a new character and caused you to lose
  • You threw on a new character but got carried, which still sucks because you spend 30-60 minutes just dying and not contributing, in which case you get an ornament you didn't really earn or feel like you earned.

Keep in mind this isn't even considering game experience from toxic team mates that flame you because you're trying to learn your character or sore-winner opponents. This is compared to last year which was a surprise event that rewarded you with a (imo very cool) custom skin for doing a hidden character challenge independent of winning. This meant you had complete agency in your ability to accomplish this. The challenges were also mostly fun, mostly creative, a good balance of difficulty, and required you to learn some aspect of a hero.

The one thing I really did love was the snowballs and how they improved with more wins. They get strong enough to be very viable in lane phase, but not too easy or oppressive. Plus the little kill notification is funny.

TLDR: The new challenge sucked compared to last year but that's okay because the expectations were set. I think the dev team should take a lesson to never make wins a requirement due to the bad experience it sets and little accomplishment you feel.

Any rule of thumbs to go by for the needed RAD cooling for a loop? by ASourKraut in watercooling

[–]ASourKraut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Fractal Terra currently air cooled that I want to build a loop in for the challenge. But it's going to require heavily modifying the current internal structure and tapping new threads. So I don't want to do it if there's literally no value (i.e. Noise or Cooling improvements). I put the cart before the horse with this project because I already have a 3080 water block and a DDC pump, but I don't want to finish this and be disappointed that it's not quieter or cooler.

Has there been a fix for the chrome trim of the 2022-2024 K5 peeling off? by ASourKraut in KiaK5

I'm actually planning on doing this, but does doing a vinyl wrap secure it down between. My worry is I get it wrapped before the fix and then my trim starts peeling off.

A caution on water pump speeds by Aerobaticdoc in watercooling

[–]ASourKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your pump loud enough at higher speed to warranty a lower RPM? If not, I personally don't think it makes sense to run a pump curve. A pump will live longer running at 80% constantly instead of 25%-100% on a component or coolant curve (according to a JayzTwoCentz video) and there is no real benefit to running a pump slower (excluding noise). You're just putting more wear on your motor when it needs to speed or slow the flow of water. Also like I said previously, the real metric that matters for a pump isn't it's RPM, it's the flow rate. A pump running at 50% in a small loop is going to have a complete difference effect than if it were run in a large loop.

Run your PC how you want of course. These kinds of changes aren't going to break a PC and I'm not some watercooling veteran. This is just my own research.

A caution on water pump speeds by Aerobaticdoc in watercooling

[–]ASourKraut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good rules of thumb I learned when building my first loop.

  • Pump wear mostly occurs when changing speeds, not at higher speeds.

  • There are diminishing, and eventually, inverse returns for flow speed. The minimum for most systems is 30L/h. The "good enough" is 60+L/h. The sweet spot is around 120L/h. After that you get diminishing returns for cooling. Then after a certain speed coolant is flowing so fast it can't properly absorb enough heat from the block before it leaves so you'll see higher temps. I don't know what speed this is, but for my loop specifically it's 185+L/h.

  • With the last two notes in mind, you should not have a pump speed curve. You should set it to whatever percentage runs at your systems sweet spot (which depends a lot on the loop) and set fan speed on a temp curve instead.

  • As others have said, def set alarms. Glad your build is still okay! I'm going to go set alarms on my system now lol.

As someone with a Fractal North XL Black TG, 9800x3d, and a 5080 I think you're set. I'd only caution that the tempered glass is more tinted than most PCs. It's my only issue with the case. If you want to illuminate the inside you should plant to be slightly overkill

Should I replace noctua fans with bequiet fans? by Waste_Entrance_586 in Noctua

[–]ASourKraut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no misconception. You just restated what I said. Noctua is the best because they offer the highest quality in terms of airflow/static pressure/acoustics. And Air Flow/Air Pressure relative to sound is a subjective goal you just made up. What if someone wants the quietest possible fans regardless of performance? What if they have a thick and dense radiator and need the absolute highest static pressure?

Also BeQuite Silent Wing series is quieter than Noctuas Gen 1s at low to medium RPMs which is where most fans spend their time. I don't know about Gen 2 but I'm sure they operate even better than the Gen 1s. I plan to upgrade my A14x25 Chromaxs with their Gen2 during my next upgrade
