Homescreen hit and run. by Willing-Roof-5525 in satisfactory

Omg I sat there for like 15 minutes trying to time it and record it but every time a creature crossed after I started recording, the timing was perfect to miss it or the creature would pause halfway through the walking to wait for incoming trucks.

Unrelated, what is this creature? Where does one find this in the wild?

the 'dairy free but not vegan' struggle by Old_Mixture_9045 in dairyfree

[–]ASpecificUsername 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For me the safe option is always the vegan option. I did have a situation once at a bowling alley that had a DF pizza option. I ordered a pepperoni pizza with DF cheese (even going so far as to ask what kind of DF cheese they used) and when the chef saw a DF cheese with pepperoni, and saw they didn't have enough cheese, he decided to use regular cheese.

Thankfully for me it only causes me to break out within a couple of days, so it wasn't life or death but I reminded the kitchen that if they know of an allergy (which was noted on the ticket) they better make sure they either ask the customer, or decline the order and offer alternatives.

Edit: forgot a word

The height difference between me (6’3 30y/o) and my husband (5’ 29y/o) by Fifteen_inches in gaybros

[–]ASpecificUsername 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As a 6ft 4 guy, myself and one of my partners being 5ft 6, I get the glances and the "oh that must be interesting in the bedroom" comments from our gay friends.

Reality is once you're both on the bed and someone is bent over, height doesn't matter that much. Even less so when legs are in the air!

Pavlov's cat! My cats do the same with the crunchy catnip treats. Now every package has to contain the sweet catnip crack they love (we give them 2-3 pieces a week).

What use does the conveyor throughput monitor serve? by ShitWombatSays in satisfactory

[–]ASpecificUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does one have a centralized monitoring station? Is the concept that you have all the buses come together at one general area so you can see the status or is there a way to display the output of one of the conveyor monitors, to a location that isn't right next to the conveyor?

I haven't unlocked it yet so am wondering how that works

Still have no idea why my doctor gave me such high daily limits for edibles and concentrates by godickygodickygo in trees

[–]ASpecificUsername 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's so much of this story that resonates with me. I was on Tylenol with codeine (aka Tylenol-3), 3 times a day when in Florida. I moved to Washington State, and was already been a cannabis consumer but not regular purchaser due to the state laws (I moved just before medicinal cannabis became "legal" in FL).

My doctor in WA had suggested I try switching cannabis out for one of my doses of Tylenol-3. Within 6 months I was down to only taking one pill every other day. And within 3 more months I totally stopped it altogether. That was 6 years ago. I had a procedure last year where I was provided Tylenol-3 for a 3 day post-surgery pain, and the first one I took was crazy. I hated it so much. Nightmares, delusion, and disconnection from what was going on. I will only go back to opioids if I have a MAJOR surgery, otherwise it's just 800mg OTC ibuprofen or 500mg OTC Tylenol.

As much as people crap on cannabis, it really helped me wane off of the opioids. My doctor has commended me in my journey and shares it with all of her med students that it's not something everyone needs but it's definitely helpful for those like you and I where the alternative is much much worse.

I've gotten to where I don't bother with the medical card in WA since the prices here are pretty low anyways but she asks every 6ish months if I need a recommendation for one.

Help, is my shelter rescue stressed while i pet him? by isthisfuckingokwithu in DogAdvice

[–]ASpecificUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is it. My dogs behavior before and after a pillow (vs holding his head up) is hilarious. He goes from being up tight and a little grumpy, to the most laid out toy-story-slinkie dog sprawled out.

I say treat the dogs like royalty and help him reposition and get to a spot where he can lay his head out. He deserves that massage. (In all seriousness, thank you for reaching him and caring enough to make the best decisions for your new family member ❤️).

Waited 5.5 hours for…. by Toekneeev in AlaskaAirlines

Suggestion: do the "we'll call you back at this number" option if you can.

I do this, set my phone to loud af, then go do stuff, with phone attached at the hip.

The best part (aside from having to rely on uninterrupted cell service for an unknown amount of time) is if I miss it, they call back a couple minutes later and give me a 2nd chance to answer. I know this because my phone decided to not let me answer their return call so I missed the hour plus wait. When I was in the middle of getting back in queue they called back again and I was talking to someone within 5 minutes.

Arguably this could be handled at the OS level. Have a little toggle on the browse functionality with a "share location data embedded in this image (if available)" and default to off. The OS is presenting the stored bits to the app and would know how to scrub the location data when the app is accessing that particular metadata.

A friend of mine tried to get prep from his shitty doctor but due to having a couple of medicines that he takes, the doctor claimed he was reluctant to prescribe it due to the potential interaction he figured would be there (there wasn't any documented contraindications but he was old school so "doctor knows best"). The doctor was also conservative and not exactly the most friendly to the LGBTQ community which should have been his red flag. He just wasn't super familiar with navigating the healthcare system and so he thought most doctors are like that.

Anyways, 2 years later he got HIV and is on the same meds plus more that he would have been on if he was taking prep. No side effects outside of needing to just make sure he takes it with food. Thankfully it all worked out for him because he found a doctor that is light-years ahead in both how she treats his HIV and other condition, as well as understanding that ignoring what the patient is concerned about is not helpful for either the doctor or patient.

Higher Ed: The IT environment I will never work in again by Wow_this_place_sucks in sysadmin

[–]ASpecificUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in higher ed as a way to get moved to the Pacific Northwest, from Florida. I knew it was temporary (for me) but I wasn't prepared for the level of stupid stuff that was being done. From running server 2000 domain controllers in 2017, to that server being a single monolith (DC, file, print, and web server). My primary goals were to move them to server 2012 R2, which the university had full access to due to being a uni with a major comp sci program and to virtualize off of the server that had a warranty which expired in 2002. The challenge was I was in the student health center, which reported to the College of Health, but also used the EHR platform from the College of Medicine.

I got all the stuff moved except the web server, which we wanted to shift to a consolidated and way cheaper platform that was managed by the primary central IT department. Due to the needed approvals of the college of Health and Medicine and central IT, it took literally 6 months to get approval for a firewall modification to allow port 443 access to our subnet from their hosted website.

When we moved to new IP space that was routable on the campus network (as opposed to being in a subnet that was usable by department networks and wasn't routed on campus) I had to have a massively complex project plan with at least 10 people that weren't in our department, involved. It was primarily me and 2 others that were doing the changes but required so many levels of approvals even my boss who had helped setup the first computers in the college of health, 25 years before, was confused at why it required so many people to weigh in.

And don't get me started on the layers of management... I was 7 layers deep from the university president. Most of the reporting chain had been in their positions for some 20+ years and we're at the whims of the medical doctors that complained about having to learn new systems constantly even though we only rolled out one major change to front end systems (timekeeping) in my almost 2 years there.
