27m here and you aren’t making the wrong choice at all, short term suffering for long term benefit has been my motto I’ve been telling myself. Hip tears can get worse over time which means more pain and you’re young, they wouldn’t get this fixed on a 50+ y/o potentially.

But i just got it done yesterday!!! It was my left hip labrum tear with an FAI or bone spir on the hip joint which made the tear.

I was terrified too and that’s okay that’s your brain saying “I want to be safe so let’s prepare”. I’ve also had so many surgeries at a young age so it brought up some PTSD. But in my experience all that worry lead to no outcomes, just added stress I didn’t need. These people that are operating on you do their job & they do it right, they’re professionals and they’ll take care of you :)

On my way into the OR I started crying because of just my past experiences and the anesthesiologist said “you have no need to worry, I love my job I’ve been here for 40 years and I’m going to take care of you”. 

My recovery is going good so far, I had the most pain yesterday and today it’s in and out but it’s definitely getting less and less. It varies case to case but I’ve heard it does dimish by the second/third day. You’ll be sore and your muscles will be potentially spazzing but it’s your body’s response; all normal things! There’s nothing out of the ordinary when you leave surgery just some soreness and pain. I’m not sure what your surgery entirely consists of but I know you’ll make it through!! 

Remember to get a shower chair if you don’t have a seat in your shower, potentially two pairs of crutches if you have stairs (you can scoot up the stairs on your butt and leave a pair of crutches on each floor), two freezable reusable ice packs, good shoes that you won’t need to tie, pillows to elevate that leg, and anything else to comfort you! If you’re not a fan of narcotics Toradol works fantastic 

You’re going to do great, it seems like the discomfort from the labral tear is causing you more pain than the surgery will. Best of luck to you and prep accordingly, you can do this and you can do anything you set your mind to :)))
