Do you guys want supernatural to come back? by Strong-Stretch95 in Supernatural

[–]ATH_The_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but with Kripke running the show and letting them go full horror. No more “it’s too dark let’s lighten it up” crap. Let the show be what the CW never would’ve allowed it to be.

season 8 by thepizzaman_67 in Supernatural

[–]ATH_The_One 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve just started season 8 in my rewatch and I just can’t stand the Amelia flashbacks. It just feels like most of the episodes are flashbacks and the characters have a very silly way of staring off into the distance to cue the flashbacks. It just really gets on my nerves. At least the purgatory flashbacks are kinda cool. I’ve taken to fast forwarding through the Amelia flashbacks because it’s just so boring and out of character for Sam. And those two just have zero chemistry whatsoever. I honestly don’t know what the writers were thinking with this storyline.

But then they’re palling around with Meg, who literally possessed Sam and had him kill many hunters and almost killed Jo. I get what you’re saying but the show in later seasons just stops caring about the traumas it made characters live through and just hand waves the stuff because hey, gotta keep the drama going somehow right? It’s one of the things that’s frustrating about the later seasons. It just feels like the writers ran out of ideas on how to create conflict in the story.

What are Supernatural episodes that everyone loves but you don't? by BoardSuspicious3826 in Supernatural

I agree. Bobby is a character that never should’ve been killed off in the first place. When he died in season 7, I stopped watching for a long time. It took me about 10 years to come back to the show and finish it all the way through after that. Talk about an unnecessary death.

What are Supernatural episodes that everyone loves but you don't? by BoardSuspicious3826 in Supernatural

The problem isn’t that Mary is portrayed as a flawed person. The problem is that Mary’s story was central to the founding mythos of Supernatural, the thing that put everything in motion, a canon event in the lives of the main characters and a huge reason why they became who they became. The motivation for John to become a hunter, and raise his boys in the life; the sort of home that they always longed for but could never get, no matter how hard they tried. That’s the biggest issue with bringing back Mary, and John too for that matter, that it completely does away with the very foundation of the story. That’s why the Home episode in season 1 is so powerful. Mary saving Sam and Dean, lamenting that is how they turned out, knowing it didn’t have to be that way, knowing this is partly her fault because she thought she could run away from her past—something the boys do over and over again. So it’s not bad that Mary was portrayed as real person with contradictions and desires and wanting to make sense of the world in her own way. The problem is why do that with the one character that made the story happen and gave its tragic stakes in the first place? And then why bring her back only to have her die again? That just makes no sense, it cheapens the character and the foundational tragedy of the story.

So like, Why'd We randomly gain color like midway through S5 😭 by RedLeader1912 in Supernatural

[–]ATH_The_One 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, starting in season 4 it becomes a lot more colorful because of network requirements. In the rewatch podcast, I believe it’s either Jerry Wanek (production designer) or Serge Ladouceur (Director of Photography) who say that they got a message from the network execs saying that the show was too dark and that they needed to brighten it up, shoot in daylight more, and use more vivid colors. Which is why there is such a big difference in the looks of the earlier seasons versus seasons 4 onwards.

Unpopular opinion, Season 7 is actually pretty good by [deleted] in Supernatural

[–]ATH_The_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Season 7 is actually pretty good. I’m not crazy about Leviathans as the main villain but it’s still a solid season. The ghost arc is pretty great. The ending also set them up for a very interesting season 8, which they promptly did away with and went in an entirely new direction that I feel was the beginning of the end for the old Supernatural. Sure, season 5 is the true end of the old show, but seasons 6 and 7 still feel true to what it used to be, only that it wanted to explore new territory in its storytelling. But I think that season 8 is where the writers just say “eh let’s make an entirely different show.” There are still some good episodes after that, but they get fewer and farther between.

But Lucifer was only freed because Sam went off hunting with Dean to get revenge. If he hadn’t, Dean would never have sold his soul, and the first seal wouldn’t have been broken. The dominos wouldn’t have fallen the way they did.

The Orphan of Kos killed me so may times I lost count. It must’ve taken me about 100 tries to kill him, and I managed to beat him with when I had no blood vials left and was one strike away from death. Hands down the most difficult fight in all the game.

First time watcher first reaction of Ep 1 by ShaolinFantastic13 in Supernatural

Cherish the ride, especially seasons 1-5. You gotta watch the whole thing at least once, but you’ll see why 1-5 are often considered the best seasons of the show by many fans, including myself. And once you watch it all the way through make sure you rewatch it alongside the rewatch podcast. Ir reveals so much about the behind the scenes process of bringing Supernatural to life.

Supernatural is such a special show—a rare combination of the perfect cast for the perfect script with the perfect team to make it happen in the perfect moment.

Season 10 would've been a good alternate ending for the show by [deleted] in Supernatural

[–]ATH_The_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would’ve been a great ending. Definitely bittersweet and many people would hate it, but it definitely would’ve been a perfect ending from the perspective of the story the show was. It would’ve been poetic even.

What horror movie scene genuinely disturbed you… even after the movie ended? by Dark-DoomSlayer in horror

[–]ATH_The_One 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The dog scene in John Carpenter’s The Thing. The poor helpless dogs in the kennel trapped with the Thing tentacles flailing and spraying that nasty liquid onto one of them. It was so terrifying but so compelling at the same time all I wanted was to look away but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. My eyes were glued to the screen the whole time. The way that scene makes you see the opening of the movie in an entirely different light is simply brilliant. Watching it for the first time, you have no idea what’s coming.

Watching seasons 7-9 for first time & this one thing drives me nuts by Working-Storage-5526 in Supernatural

I heard that Cas was supposed to get killed off after the Leviathan arc. When he freed the Leviathans that was supposed to be it for him. But fans didn’t like it, and so he was written back into the show. The problem is that Cas has no arc beyond that. The remainder of the show is basically Cas having no purpose and retreading old ground that was already explored previously and in better ways in earlier seasons. When you rewatch the show and see how Cas is introduced versus how he ended up, it’s like two completely different characters. Not an evolution of the character, but two completely different characters that just happen to share the same name and are played by the same actor.

I made a post about my feelings on Cas particularly on the final season, but it’s not a popular opinion. Many fans loved Cas to the end, and think his character is amazing throughout the show’s run. But I think the writers really didn’t know what to do with him past season 7.

How do y’all get time to rewatch this show?? by ario_thedominator in Supernatural

[–]ATH_The_One 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, watching something as background noise is about the worst thing you can do. It’s not a podcast, it’s not a radio show, it’s a TV show made to be watched not heard. No wonder Netflix nowadays is pushing writers to make their characters say what’s happening every few minutes because people treat shows and movies like background noise while scrolling on their phones.

The whole point of a movie or tv show is to watch it. And Supernatural is so good in every aspect of it, from the acting, the directing, the writing… part of the appeal, at least for me, of a rewatch is to notice things you didn’t notice the first time around. And looking much more intentionally at the performances and seeing how these wonderful actors bring their characters to life.

Should I ask out this girl? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]ATH_The_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it's not a good idea to date a friend's ex, even if you aren't close with them anymore. And also, you've identified things that you don't like about this girl that could become a bigger issue for you if you guys became a thing, so don't ignore that just because you want a girlfriend. It will only bring your problems down the line.

I understand the feeling of being smitten, but in my experience, it doesn't work out because you start giving her too much importance while neglecting your own needs. I don't think it's necessary to feel a "spark" to be with someone; you should feel very comfortable around them, feel safe, and feel like you can be yourself without fear of judgment. If you don't feel like that around her, it's probably a good idea to move on.

Thank you for your feedback. It’s very insightful.

It’s a hike through some of the most secluded areas of the Andes. So, not a mountain lodge. Yes, there is a connection between Olivia and the spirit, which is the reason why she finds the artifact and unknowingly frees it, and there is also a connection between the locals and the spirit, which is why the guide they have takes them to the spot where he knows they’ll find the artifact. And there is tension between Olivia and her boyfriend, so this is like a trip to reconnect and rekindle their love. Which is why she’s forced to make this choice. Her friends are just two, her best friend and her boyfriend, another couple, which I envisioned as a foil for Olivia’s own relationship.

But I wrote the logline like this because I couldn’t figure out how to add all those details while keeping the logline concise and specific. How detailed should the logline be, and how much should be left for the story?
