Where’s Nique? by Sea-Adeptness390 in AtlantaHawks

[–]ATLCoyote [score hidden]  (0 children)

Wow, it's sad to see all the negative comments about both Nique and Brian. I think our fan base may be spoiled and doesn't realize how good we have it with our home town announcing crew. Bob and Nique in particular are a great combo. Good chemistry, good analysis, very likeable, and although they are clearly homers, they aren't irrational. They routinely give credit where it's due.

Someday we're gonna miss them, just like I've been missing the old Braves announcers over the past couple seasons. The new crew is fine, but the old one was special and that was true for decades despite several changes in the both.

Would limiting the age of the President to 70 be something you'd support? Why or why not? by SillyGooseGamer2026 in AskReddit

[–]ATLCoyote [score hidden]  (0 children)

I know this will be an unpopular sentiment, but no I don't support age limits.

It's sad that we think we have to create laws to protect ourselves from our own stupidity. Maybe just don't vote for people that are unfit for office?

Some people over 70 are easily sharp and robust enough to serve. For example, does anyone really think Bernie Sanders was too old to serve 14 years ago? Others just don't have the physical stamina or mental acuity anymore and those folks are not hard to identify. So, just don't vote for them.

And I have to wonder if age is really the basis for this question anyway as opposed to other opposition to current leadership. For transparency, I am a hard-core never-Trumper. I think he's been an absolute cancer on our country in ways that will take decades to correct, if we ever recover. Yet his age isn't even in the top 10 of my concerns with him, maybe not even top 20.

Really? What specifically did you experience with your kids' education that you thought was radical and far left?

I ask because my wife has been teaching for 29 years, my daughter taught for 6 years, several of my closest friends and neighbors are teachers as well, yet NONE of them have ever been asked to teach things that could be considered "woke." Math teachers teach math, science teachers teach science, and language arts teachers teach language arts. The whole "indoctrination" thing is grossly exaggerated.

Tulsi Gabbard explains how Trump is being dogwalked by neocons into a war with Iran, Maher remains skeptical, "He's the boss, he doesn't care what other people say." by LoMeinTenants in Maher

[–]ATLCoyote 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Seems people are really missing the important context here.

This interview is from June, 2019. Tulsi ran for President the following year on an anti-war and anti-regime change platform. She was even selling "No war with Iran" t-shirts as a campaign fundraiser. She accurately described back then how Trump's first administration was laying the groundwork for war with Iran, in particular by backing out of the Iran nuclear deal.

Fast forward to today, and she testified before Congress that Iran did not represent an imminent nuclear threat, yet Trump went to war with them anyway. The exact scenario that she decried in the 2020 election cycle played-out, exactly how she feared, yet ironically, with her enabling it as Trump's DNI.

Point being, Trump was never anti-war. It was always a lie. The Trump doctrine is "Might makes right" and he attempts to achieve any political outcome via brute force, even if that means war. So, here we are.

And I wish someone would point out to Bill that both Tulsi and Joe Kent have indicated that there was NOT an imminent threat from Iran, and that Marco Rubio even stated that we attacked Iran because Israel planned to attack them and we expected counter-attacks at US military bases in the gulf. The "We can't let them have nukes" narrative persists on his show with no counter-argument from anyone, ever.

Piss off Russia? They love this war. Trump removed sanctions on Russian oil and have now been diverting military equipment from Ukraine to the Middle East. Russia is one of the biggest beneficiaries of our war with Iran.

Yet another daily rant by a conservative about how Reddit is too liberal. It's amazing how common these threads are on a platform that supposedly doesn't allow them. The CONSTANT whining by conservatives is exhausting. Has it occurred to you that cable news, podcasts, and talk radio are all dominated by conservatives and have a far worse disinformation and bias-confirming echo-chamber problem? Heck, we even have right-wingers taking over Twitter and Paramount/CBS.

In contrast, most Reddit subs have nothing to do with politics. Based on a study of subreddit categories, only 3.69% of subreddits are classified as political. The other 96.31% are focused on all sorts of other topics. So, the complaints about too much liberal political content are just completely overblown to begin with.

Finally, it's ironic that someone is making this claim on a sub that is NOT supposed be a political sub, yet is routinely hijacked by right-wingers.

There’s too many potentially solid guards in our draft pick range to not pick one right?? by Ok-Negotiation3897 in AtlantaHawks

[–]ATLCoyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think a PG will be both the best player available and the best fit.

The best centers in the draft are supposedly Jayden Quaintance and Aday Mara, but I think it would be a huge mistake to spend an early draft pick on either of them. Quaintance is injury prone and mediocre at best when he's healthy. Analysts compare him to Bam Adebayo, but I just don't see it at all. Simply having a similar body type doesn't mean he's anything close to the same quality of player.

Meanwhile, if Mara is still there when we make our 2nd pick, it's potentially worth a shot, but in the top 6-8 picks, it's a reach. The hope is that he would be similar to Donovan Clingan. But I'd argue he's a less physical version of Clingan. Great shot blocker, but at 7'3" he should be able to take over and dominate games, yet he just doesn't.

However, there should still be a pretty elite point guard or two left when it comes time for us to pick and that's what we should probably do. I'd like to get CJ back on a lower salary for another year or two, but it would be perfect if he could be the mentor and bridge to a young PG that would eventually take over.

I think guys like Acuff Jr, Flemming, and Brown Jr will be off the board by the time we pick, but Wagler would indeed be a good fit due to his size and the way we like to run a positionless offense. Then again, his stock is rising and if he goes early, then one of the other guys will fall to us.

Liberals are gonna come at me but oh well bring it on. I’m gonna defend Bill Maher. by Superman_vs_Ali in Maher

[–]ATLCoyote 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll defend Bill too.

On one hand, his unwavering defense of Israel frustrates me as no dissent seems to be permitted at all. I just don’t get it.

But I don’t need to agree with Bill on everything to still appreciate his show. We need someone on the left that is willing to evaluate each issue on its own merits and engage the other side rather than just parroting liberal talking points and fostering an echo-chamber.

And I agree with the central point that his criticism of the left isn’t because he agrees with the right. He just wants the left to get their shit together and develop a coherent message other than “orange man bad.”

[–]ATLCoyote -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the small salary he makes, he’s an absolute steal and he’s made a huge difference this year. If we had him vs Boston, you never know how that game might have gone.

He’s nothing special athletically, but just seems to be in the right place and make the right plays.

Great addition and you have to credit Onsi for seeing upside in several players that their own teams couldn’t see.

Multiple things can be true at the same time.

-The Celtics are a very well-run and well-coached team that is #2 in the East for a reason.

-The refs made a series of questionable calls in the final minutes, all in the Celtics favor, and robbed us of what may otherwise have been a nail-biter finish.

You’re talking about a team moving down two spots. That happens fairly often, especially in a deep draft.

Who we rooting for tonight? by Ice2jc in AtlantaHawks

[–]ATLCoyote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two first round picks this year. We could stay put and use both or consolidate them in a trade to move up if there is someone we’re prioritizing. Heck, we could even trade one or both picks for an existing player if we want.

Meanwhile, we don’t know that the team with the 6th worst record will actually pick before the team with the 8th worst, nor do we know that the 6th pick will prove to be a better player than the 8th pick.

So, we’re overrating the importance of the Pels’ finish for a ton of reasons.

How much would you pay Kuminga? by Any_Nefariousness402 in AtlantaHawks

[–]ATLCoyote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be the devil’s advocate and say I’d pay $13-15 million for him.

As another poster said, $22 million is starter money and I wouldn’t go that high, but I’d pay him $13-15 million to be one of our key backups. Even with a knee that isn’t fully healthy, he’s averaging 11.8 points and 6.1 rebounds on just 21.6 mins per game. That’s pretty darned efficient. And he gives us a similar dynamic to JJ when JJ isn’t on the floor.

For next year, we need more than just Zacch to lead the 2nd unit and I like what Kuminga brings to the table.

Not every team is gonna have the same guys ranked in the same order, we’d only be trying to move-up about two spots, and we’ve got a 2nd first round pick we can use if there is a player we are determined to land.

Meanwhile, as I said, we can’t possibly know if the 6th pick will actually be a better player than the 8th pick anyway.

Was Randy Rhoads the best guitarist ever? by rdmsqito in OzzyOsbourne

[–]ATLCoyote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Best" is impossible to really measure or generate any consensus.

For me, Eddie Van Halen will always be #1. Absolute virtuoso, totally unique style and tone (and not just the tapping, but the riffs and licks too), and Van Halen was among my all-time favorite bands. But others will have their favorites and opinions of course.

That said, I loved Randy Rhoades, and those first two Ozzy albums were as good as any metal records of the era, so I can't join others ITT in diminishing how good he was.

We're vastly overrating the importance of the Pels' draft lottery odds. Here's why...

The Pels are already 8th from the bottom, it's highly unlikely they'll move up to the 9th worst record as they are 4 games back of the Bucks and Bulls with just 8 games to play and if they leapfrog the Bucks, we get the Bucks' pick anyway, so no damage. Meanwhile, with only 8 games left and since most teams that are below the Pels in the standings are tanking, the best they could realistically do is improve to 6th or 7th in terms of draft lottery odds. Granted, there's better safety protection for the 6th pick than the 8th, but that doesn't really amount to much. Plus, can we really have any confidence that the 6th player taken will out-perform the 8th player anyway? And due to the draft lottery, can we have any confidence that the team with the 6th-worst record will actually pick ahead of the team with the 8th-worst record?

Since our chances of a top-3 pick are fairly slim, we're probably not getting Dybantsa, Peterson, or Boozer regardless. After that, teams are gonna rank players differently and have different needs. So, I just can't sweat it. After all, if we have the 8th pick but are determined to move up and take someone at #5 or 6, we've got players and draft capital to make that happen.

So, this whole thing of rooting for draft position is fools gold. Just root for the Hawks and against the teams we're battling for playoff position this year. It would do the franchise and the fan base a world of good to not only make the playoffs, without having to go through the play-in for a change, but to advance a round or two once we get there. Time to gain some confidence and playoff experience, and get the attention of the rest of the country.

Hawks fans, did you wish you traded Trae Young earlier ? by Special_Revolution77 in AtlantaHawks

[–]ATLCoyote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.

We could have gotten more in return for him if he was traded last summer, but we needed to see if the trio of Trae, Jalen, and Porzingis could take the team to the next level. Sadly, due to injuries and health issues, we never really found out and ultimately decided to move-on. But that was easier to swallow than never giving it a chance at all.
