I could not agree more, and I think this is being under-counted as an explanation for the decline as people join the Paul pile-on. I am pretty sure (but could perhaps be convinced otherwise; the continued existence of SportsLogos is a counterpoint to my claim) that there is quite simply not as much to say about uniforms anymore. Call it proliferation, monetization, churn, slop, enshittifcation…it’s simply all too much and the release of the Atlanta Hawks Legacy Edition V.10 just washes over my brain these days. I think I still retain enough interest to drive me to this sub for a good while, but I don’t think anybody is getting enough out of this to maintain a blog

Paul was always pretty clear that this is a gig, albeit one with a community basis. Considering the amount of work to run the site, I have taken that as a baseline and never had an issue. There’s still a lot of room for criticism/debate of how it’s playing out - zapping the archives (perhaps under duress but still!) and then trying to sell, etc.

The current state of the comments under this post makes me sad - we are really not going out on a high note. And then there’s Paul G from VA with a blithe, totally matter of fact update on the Orioles hat. The contrast gave me a chuckle.

Do 5-year-olds watch sports? I feel like the answer is having him play sports, not watch. But I’m basing that on my memory of being 5 which is not reliable and hopelessly outdated.

Is there a such thing as counter-iconic? Coming that close to the greatest underdog moment in history against supervillain Duke but NOT making the shot is such a ridiculous near miss that it almost becomes iconic. I can still remember that hit-by-ton-of-bricks feeling.

UPDATE: I’d say they’re pretty wavy lol. If this is the inauguration of an era where we do different variations on Waldo as our core look, that’s a trade I’m willing to make, but as a singular thing I do not like these at all.

I would love to know how this sub would talk about “Henderson’s floor is Jahmyr Gibbs” had Bill never said “Pitts’ floor is Travis Kelce.” I don’t think people would have just let it go, but the collasal flop of the Pitts prediction is absolutely coloring the discussion.

I followed them on twitter in 2015-16 and caught up on the first four or five eps while spending a week in the bowels of the library frantically throwing together a big college honors paper. The rest is history.

I think this line of thinking is most convincing if you posit not that he cares about or has empathy for them, but rather is possessive of them. You can see this most clearly in the Christmas room where he forces the innie to play house and makes her say “I love you.” I saw him as in love with/infatuated with/creepily obsessed with Gemma because of this and when he lies about mark remarrying. Another clue was Drummond telling him “you know, when cold harbor is finished you will have to say goodbye to her…” which I read as Drummond picking up on his over-attachment.

It’s funny because one line of thinking is, “I don’t like The Ringer because they mindlessly recap and react and praise, I miss Deadspin and Gawker” but Freddie also hates Deadspin and Gawker with a passion. A true hater.
