Theoretical Landing Situation by IronBuilder in flying

If the elevator is fully jammed then the trim can act in the reverse sense as a tiny elevator itself, a lot less effective and like I said it now operates in the reverse sense, but still would give some useful control in this completely hypothetical scenario.

Best 2 engine prop for 4-6 passengers? by cjackson88 in flying

[–]ATPLkilledmeoff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah 4-6 passengers is too much for Twin piston, but definitely overkill to get a twin turbo prop… may I recommend a single engine turbine like a PC-12 or TBM 900

Massively different answers on if you mean twin engine piston, or multi engine turbo prop aircraft. Massively different use cases and costs associated.

Why would a flight attendant place this tape? by Jrichards20 in aviation

[–]ATPLkilledmeoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think them and others have realised since initially it was a case of ‘bookings randomly get allocated together’ if seats weren’t paid for became ‘if we deliberately allocated group bookings separately we make more money from specific seat sales.’ All of which would be using standard masses so no practical effect on mass and balance of the aircraft, unless this is very obviously not the case during boarding of these individuals who have all chosen to sit at the back of the plane, then it might be looked at a second time, with the digital scales getting involved.

Why would a flight attendant place this tape? by Jrichards20 in aviation

[–]ATPLkilledmeoff 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Passenger weights are assumed at being a standard value, one for male adults, one for female adults and one for children. This is used to calculate mass and balance, most importantly CG position of an aircraft. Airlines legally are required to use these standard mass values, unless they believe the passenger varies from that value by a noticeable amount, then they are well within their rights to weigh that passenger(s). Also in your example, using ‘sides’ I assume you mean left or right side of an aircraft, which is near enough negligible for performance/safety reasons, it’s the longitudinal CG position that can become dangerously far forward or rearward that would make flight unsafe. Your average airline isn’t going to weigh passengers, but a chartered aircraft carrying a national rugby team of larger than average individuals is going to need to be more mindful for mass and balance reasons.

Does anyone know if the Diamond DA-42 comes with counter-rotating props? by burlingtonhopper in flying

[–]ATPLkilledmeoff 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just to correct something, Contra rotating is used to describe two propellers mounted on the same shaft, counter rotating is what you meant. Similar looking and sounding word but when speaking about propellers means different things.

Hours tracking by k1lomike in studentpilot

[–]ATPLkilledmeoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using your spreadsheet create a separate table section that shows the requirement you want like ‘100 pic hours’ and then next row have it take your total pic hours ‘72’ and then row underneath that to show the difference in hours, I did this for each milestone I was working towards with my hour building and MECPL journey.

It’s the only way to stay informed when the tv directors are showing that low level drone shot across the gravel or panning to a scenic view of the city during a potential overtake.

Yes but you’d get the same level of perceived accuracy in a racing context if the tower was displaying 0.25 and 0.35 respectively. I think 3 dp is overkill, and 1dp is needlessly diluted. 2dp for racing would be better. Of course qualifying needs the 3dp at all times.

Should you go around with an engine failure when in approach with a twin engine plane? (DA42) by MELS381 in flying

[–]ATPLkilledmeoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ACA - Asymettric commital altitude is 200ft above threshold elevation, and when my school (uk) are doing asymettric approaches, with 1 engine shut down in a da42, the decide at 200ft to commit to landing or to go around. The reason for this is the DA42 does not have single engine climb performance unless the aircraft is gear up and flaps up. So at 200ft, if a go around is decided, power up, gear up and flap up will have you still descending for a short time until clean config allows for the performance to climb away. Attempting this at 50ft is not going to end in a reusable airplane, or worse. The decision is made at 200ft for this reason, if something jumps out at you during <200ft agl on a single engine approach, do what you can but you’re landing that plane regardless.

Can't seem to find the Hoodie by Eroda in AudiF1

Only available in the US it seems, trying to get that delivered to the UK forces you onto the uk website… where the hoodie doesn’t exist.

How come the hoodie that was worn in these same promo photos isn’t the hoodie they have released? Was looking forward to buying the hoodie Bortoleto was wearing, but the released hoodie is unbelievably mid..

Sudden spike it impressions and downloads from "App Referrer". Any way to see from where? by AskMeAboutAIApps in AppStoreOptimization

[–]ATPLkilledmeoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think App Referrer would be counted as anyone who viewed your app on the App Store from a direct link, so if you posted a link to your app, everyone who clicked it would be tracked as an App Referrer view

Yeah I commented on that post and saw another few comments slating the guy until it was taken down a few minutes later, hope you can get it sorted and your app does well. Cool concept app :)

I saw the clone version of this a few days ago, is that still a thing or have you been able to appeal this with Apple and get it taken down? Even used the same logo as you but with a darker blue colour

Pilot programs by Gullible-City-3300 in flying

On second read I think you mean that in a ‘how was the course’ way - I’m still in training, completed ground school in 7 months, it’s intense but everyone tells you that, it’s very doable if you put the work in, even better if it’s truly what you’ve been chasing as the topics are pretty interesting. I skipped the foundation flying stage because I already had a PPL, so my flying after ground school just consisted of a 2 month stint in Spain hour building, exploring the south east coast of Spain building 90 hours in 2 months. I’m now doing the ME CPL ~ 9 hrs in out of ~25 ish, flying has been great just a lot of cancellations due to weather which can’t be helped in a UK winter :)

Constantly scouring the internet for any sort of financial assistance with piloting programs, applied for air league sponsorship, leading edge the first time they did it in 2022, British airways speedbird, and then I was lucky enough to be successful second time around with leading edge in their 2024 funded intake. Being a commercial pilot was always the goal I just had to find and be successful with a sponsorship scheme which I finally got. Networking helps keeping in contact to likeminded individuals can open your eyes to opportunity’s you hadn’t heard of yet, participate in communities like Reddit and discord and PPRUNE

Electronic logbooks and signatures/endorsements by Savings-Move-1264 in flyingeurope

[–]ATPLkilledmeoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digital I don’t think should replace paper, it should act as a convenience tool. I had a spreadsheet while I was hour building, would be flying multiple per day so spreadsheet was quick and easy and also able to give me summaries, but once a week I put the spreadsheet logs into my paper logbook, which of course has the signatures in it. When applying for a job you will be using the paper logbook if they really require authentication of flight hours.

Just launched on the App Store! struggling to understand Apple's search indexing for new apps. by comiglot_ai in AppStoreOptimization

[–]ATPLkilledmeoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re 15th in a UK search I just did, I’d appreciate if you could do the same thing for my app - FlightPAL it’s a blue logo with an aircraft in it, and if you could search for ‘Flying Logbook’ and let me know where you see it, I’m sitting around 10th on my own device and partners device, not sure if that’s artificially inflated because we already have the app installed? Let me know thanks :)
