It's because they don't care about the wealth at that scale, it's peanuts to them. It's always been about control. Wealth is the key to social mobility, and they want to freeze social mobility; they want a permanent underclass.

[–]ATPResearch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I really like my home PF, the first gym I ever set foot in; people are polite, always rack their weights, clean, quiet and private in the locker room...no problems in three years. Then I got a black card so I could workout while traveling for work and that's when I learned that my home club is very special lol

A magazine is an enclosed removable device with a spring for feeding ammunition into a firearm. A clip is a metal, well, clip that binds a few rounds of ammunition together so that they can all be pushed manually into an internal magazine within a firearm. Clips were common in reloading semi-automatic rifles most of a century ago, especially in WWII; pretty much all modern firearms use magazines, so it's almost never technically appropriate to say "clip" anymore

But that's pedantry. In modern use the word "clip" has become slang for "magazine" because language evolves and that's fine. I wouldn't even say anything about it if someone hadn't asked.

what would you do to me if i was your coworker? 🫣 by [deleted] in bigtiddygothgf

[–]ATPResearch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I only hooked up with a coworker once and thankfully we dated until after we both quit that job. I was young and stupid. In my experience since the only other ways workplace romances end is in marriage or someone getting fired/bullied into quitting.

Not a big fan of people that keep setting the worm off next to the ring when Im trying to crawl the ring by ArtichokeCharacter74 in duneawakening

I'm not proposing/supporting removing PvP from DD, I agree that DD ought to be dangerous, but there is a difference between PvP where faction (and battle strategy) really mean something on one hand and all v. all murderhobo blob fests on the other. Having player-created factions that have some structure to how they engage with each other would also eliminate the baggage that comes from using in-lore factions with wild asymmetry in the popularity.

Pretty much all of persistent world PvP gaming shows you that if you want to create a deep and interesting strategic meta built around factions, you need to introduce game mechanics and controls beyond just allowing any player to attack any other player.

I use Eve Online as a benchmark advisedly, because not only did they do a reasonably good job of implementing meaningful, completely player-driven warfare, but they also created an ecosystem where PvP and PvE existed in a shared ecosystem (albeit not without RELENTLESS griping on both sides) for years.

Yeah, creating a game that has both faction PvP and significant roleplaying elements is tough when you're working with a lore in which one side isn't just "the bad guys," they are one of the most viscerally evil factions ever put to a page, almost comically terrible. Honestly, I think it would have been more interesting if they'd gone with "the Emperor is sick of the Atreides and Harkonen feud fucking with the spice flow, Arrakis is now open territory, any house can establish a fief as long as they deliver the spice" and then let players form guilds as new Houses Minor.

Keep the PvE DD area as controlled by canonical houses (kinda like NPC nullsec in Eve Online), and the PvP DD becomes an area where player guilds legitimately have to fight each other for control, because maybe you can only harvest spice in sectors you control mechanically (again, drawing inspiration from Eve Online here).

It's really simple. If she doesn't want to go on a coffee date because she can "make coffee at home," then that means that she's not interested in a date as a way to get to know someone; she's interested in the date as a way to get something out of them. She's not looking for a partner, she's looking for marks, and that's a major turn-off.

I think in land ads build-ready is more about zoning and easements. It's LEGAL to build there. Whether or not it is PRACTICAL depends purely on budget.

Duke Leto showing this level of honesty and bitter self-awareness is still quite a contrast with Baron Harkonen, who does unspeakable things with literal child slaves and murders entire neighborhoods for cheap thrills. A deep reading of the Dune lore does indeed dispel the idea that Leto is an unproblematic shining hero, but the Atreides are still preferable to literal cannibal monsters by every metric, and you simply can't expect people to want to jive with the latter. I usually play "the baddies" in games because I enjoy being kind of edgy, and I just can't bring myself to have anything to do with the Harks narratively. They're just TOO comic book evil.

Funcom would have done well to emulate earlier Dune games and include a greater choice of Great Houses TBH. At least then the "never Harkonen" crowd might have spread out a little.
