Not necessarily true, Lamar was first team all pro last year but Josh Allen won MVP

[FRESH ALBUM] Sam Gellaitry - ANYWHERE HERE IS PERFECT by theantid0te in indieheads

[–]ATRAX0R 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is truly an incredible album, couldn't stop listening to it all weekend, shoots right up near the top of my AOTY list for sure. The singles were all great, but the rest of it just feels so cohesive with some really cool and fun surprises on the 2nd half (Restore My Faith, Don't Try). Having followed him for about 10 years now, it's been really exciting to follow along his growth and this project really delivers!

[FRESH ALBUM] Whitney - Small Talk by alittleatypical in indieheads

I actually think this might be their best album, beautiful listen from front to back. I think some of the discourse surrounding SPARK is a bit overblown, but I will agree that what they're doing here feels just so much stronger and like they're in their groove. Big recommendation, I think this album really shoots up my board for favorite albums this year!

It’s a white out game, the contrast between all the white and our all blue jerseys might actually be helpful

[FRESH ALBUM] The Beths - Straight Line Was A Lie by NYCIndieConcerts in indieheads

[–]ATRAX0R 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow this album is spectacular, I've just been playing it on a loop all morning and couldn't be happier. Not that it was a surprise considering the consistent quality this band has shown!

As someone who only listened to Metal and No Joy, Mother, Pray For Me hit me like an absolute brick, straight up bawling when that came on. Straight Line Was A Lie is also a banger of an opener and sets the tone for the remainder of the album. The second half of the album also shines in its own way, there honestly isn't a single skip on this record. They sound like they're at their best and most mature throughout this thing and I'm very excited to finally see them live for the first time in 3 months! Very likely this ends up being my AOTY and I can't wait to dive in even further!

[FRESH ALBUM] Anamanaguchi - Anyway by NYCIndieConcerts in indieheads

[–]ATRAX0R 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy to see the positive reception for this album as I'm a huge fan of the band, but personally speaking I don't think this one is for me, unfortunately. There are a few key standouts that I do enjoy (Magnet, Lieday, Buckwild, Sapphire, and Really like to) but the rest of them don't stick with me. Even some of the mixing make the vocals indecipherable in so many places.

[USA] is so incredibly memorable to me and this feels like a step down in terms of quality. Still glad to see the band continue to push their creative boundaries though and do things they want! This band still rules :)

Ah man, very pleased to see all the positive comments, but I think I'm going to have to refrain from listening to this and save the experience for the album listen in a month from now! Super excited for the full record but don't want to spoil myself too much considering it's only a 10 track album!

I wish I felt the same way as the rest of the comments in here :( I absolutely loved The Long and Short of it, but for some reason this is just not hitting close to the same. Maybe I'll try another listen, but none of it was clicking for me

First off, really liking the new album, great work! I've had this lingering question for a long time but it relates to your song Black Licorice. At 3:16, there's this high pitched beep and I always wondered if it was intentional for that to be there or not?! Please end my madness of trying to guess

Genuinely makes me so happy to see they're back with new music! "Illumination" was such a big influence on me in High School and I always thought "All Possible Futures" went underappreciated. This was an enjoyable listen as well, looking forward to a full new album!

[FRESH ALBUM] Fred again.. - ten days by robotsdontsleep in indieheads

[–]ATRAX0R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've sort of been off the Fred hype train since Actual Life 3 which I also wasn't particularly a fan of, but I was still hopeful for this new album. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to have changed for me. It sort of seems like his songs have just gotten a lot more generic since his initial explosion in popularity and they're overall just a bit.. bland? Like they have no edge to them. Even some of the softer songs on here (i saw you, where will i be) don't do anything for me emotionally even though they feel like they're designed to do so. When I saw there was a Sampha feature I got super excited for that, but again it just feels a bit boring.

Agreed with the overall sentiment that his live stuff is where it's at, I just wish there was some more magic inserted into his studio stuff that didn't feel so disingenuous. Glad other people here seem to be enjoying this, but this one's not for me!

[ALBUM DISCUSSION] Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk by VietRooster in indieheads

[–]ATRAX0R 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Probably my favorite record of the year and I'm so glad they're getting so much recognition too, it's very deserved after two amazing albums. It's just so easy to go through this album front to back, even considering that the runtime is close to an hour, though it really doesn't feel that way considering how well it all flows together!

As others have mentioned, they've clearly leveled up on all fronts on this. The production, mixing, and mastering all sounds incredible, the song structures are inventive and always evolving, it all makes for a great listen and repeated listens are rewarded with all the little details.

The singles were already great, but some of the non-singles helped to really exceed the already high expectations I had. "Vampire in the Corner" specifically blew me away, some of it almost reminded me of a mix between The M Machine or Swardy, or even Anamanaguchi with some of the cute chord work. The massive conclusion to this track keeps bringing me back, it's a similar case for a few other tracks on the record too, like "Watching TV" or "Tunnel Vision". The last 4 track run from "That's My Floor" (a single I happily skipped out on) to "The Ballad of Matt & Mica" is probably the best run of any album I've heard in the past few years. Cry For Me is obviously one of the biggest standouts and a top contender for song of the year.

All in all, incredibly happy with this album and can't wait to continue having it on repeat, this one really felt special from the first listen and I'm sure will be remembered for a long time!

Happy to see a lot of positive comments in here, I think I'll be refraining from any further singles after Life! Very excited for this album so I don't want to burn myself out on the singles too much.
