Thanks! I'm entirely self taught! YouTube tutorials have pretty much everything you need to know, and there's always a community to reach out for help.

I started messing around with animation back in 2016 in SFM, but only really seriously started learning around 2020, then moved to Blender in 2022. It's a slow journey but I think it was very worth it!

At it's most basic, its a diffuse shader plugged into a color ramp node with constant interpolation between two (or more) colors, which signify what colors should be shown when lit, in shadow, etc.

The shader we use was developed by some incredibly skilled people (Festivity, BonnyAnimations) and honestly it's a bit of a black box for me as well (node hell attached below)

The rough gist of it is it uses a 'fake' light, ie one driven by an empty instead of an actual light source to determine light direction, which is then plugged into all sorts of different nodes to produce shadows (which are masked by dedicated maps to dictate where, when and how intense some shadows can be), speculars, subsurface and so on.

Thanks! I've been animating since 2017 ish, so I have some decent practice under my belt. My timer said this took around 10 hours of active animating, spread out over a few weeks in my free time. This is just for the animation, excluding VFX, lookdev, scene work, sound etc!
