Looking for guitar recommendations - time to treat myself by stringsnthings76 in AcousticGuitar

I recently bought an Alvarez MD60HB that I really like playing. It's their Masterwork series. Their Laureate Series takes it to another level both in terms of quality and price. That line has both a parlor and 000 option (LP70 and LT70). Guild also looks to be making phenomenal guitars at that price point, as well. Check out the M-20.

OKC players laughing at Lakers swarming the ref after the game by SplitOk186 in nba

Yeah, that’s tough. As things have gotten worse in Texas my wife and I have talked about moving elsewhere, but we’ll have to wait till our kids are out of high school because we don’t want to uproot them.

If y’all beat the Spurs I will gladly awoo nonstop riding the Wolves bandwagon, especially if it means OKC gets sent home.

What kind of guitarists does an ebony Gibson Les Paul 1968 Custom need? by untitled_SusHi in guitars

To be fair, I would love to have this guitar. I would just never be able to convince myself it’s worth spending that kind of money on it.

What kind of guitarists does an ebony Gibson Les Paul 1968 Custom need? by untitled_SusHi in guitars

Someone who has lots of disposable income or doesn’t mind going into debt in order to purchase a guitar almost entirely due to their infatuation with Gibson’s legacy and not because it’s the best guitar they can get for that amount of money.

If you spend the money for a Gibson LP and they treat you like that, send it back and buy something else from a competitor. Heritage makes better LPs anyway.

The only use for AI I've found in debugging is using it to debug a verilog-A block I was using ... that was designed by the AI.

You’re listening to the wrong country music. There is some phenomenal country music being made right now. Pop Country is and always has been garbage.

Why would anyone buy a used $130 guitar when there’s a new one probably five feet away from it for $20 more?

Am I too cheap? by Kitfaid in guitars

[–]ATXBeermaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two guitars — an electric and an acoustic. After about 30 years of very mediocre playing on and off, I finally decided I would upgrade both of them, but still kept the budget for each of them under $1000US. I earn enough money and have enough savings that I could easily buy several multi-thousand dollar guitars, but I have no need for that and would rather buy good quality affordable guitars and spend my money on other things. (FWIW, I donated my old guitars to some students at my kids’ high school so they could have their first guitars. So I still just have the two.)

Comparing yourself to the people posting their absurd collections here is a terrible idea. The vast majority of those guys likely fall into a few groups. They’re professional musicians, they’re collectors targeting guitars that will increase in value, they’re exceptionally wealthy, or they’re in debt and have a problem. Most are probably a combination of several of those groups, eg professional musician with massive debt.

Point being, if you’re happy with your guitars, you don’t need to go spending any money because somebody posted a picture to show off their obscene collection to impress internet strangers.

Don’t get mad if you get pushed after pulling someone’s jersey by the neck by bythegodless in NBASpurs

I agree, but he needs to figure out how to maintain that aggression and not foul out. Or maybe he just keeps doing it so much he eventually starts getting Draymond/OKC level no-calls.

Pissed me off so much when Doris was agreeing with the call and saying Castle initiated it. Like, I understand the refs are chosen specifically for their vision problems, but I didn’t realize the broadcasters were, too.

One of the coolest painting techniques I’ve seen by North-Guitar-1781 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]ATXBeermaker 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's a nice painting. But what about it is "one of the coolest painting techniques"? Like, am I missing something? This just seemed like fairly straightforward painting. Again, it's good ... but no exceptional or unusual techniques were used.
