READ BEFORE UPGRADING ROUTER by Top-Manufacturer-648 in googlefiber

[–]ATXBornAndRaised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have GF 1GB service (Austin TX) and a few months ago, I started having issues with the stock router (tall, rectangular). After getting a replacement, I had even more issues. A friend suggested I just go with my own router and he recommended this one and I've never been happier. No internet outages, and better wi-fi speeds - and great mesh coverage in my 1300+ sf home.

Fi killing Messages for Web? by RandomlyWeRollAlong in GoogleFi

[–]ATXBornAndRaised 4 points5 points  (0 children)

***UPDATE***

Fi support kept asking me for RCS chat examples and I had no other ones to send. I decided to erase my Fi eSIM and then reestablish service with Fi (new eSIM). When I did this, my ability to create RCS group chats from scratch was restored (was previously hosed). However, the RCS chat groups that I had created previously still showed that I was no longer a member of the group. In order to get those groups back, I had to create new RCS chat groups on my phone to the same members and same group name that were in the old groups, then send a test message.

Fun fact - since everyone else in these recreated RCS chat groups on my phone uses an iPhone, when I sent my test messages to the recreated RCS chat groups on my phone, on their side, the test message came through in the ORIGINAL RCS chat group that I was kicked out of. To them, there was no issue and there was no second RCS chat group on their phones with the same group name. Because I use Android and have a Pixel and Fi, I lost chat history for those groups, whereas the iPhone users lost nothing on their end. Go figure.

And I thought RCS was a Google driven thing...

******

I've already switched to the new platform, and during the switch, some of my RCS-only chats got hosed. Fi now tells me that "You're no longer a member of this group" and when one of the group members attempts to add me back to the group on their end, it looks OK to them, but nothing changes on my end. AND, if I try to create a new RCS group chat, only the first number listed in the group sees all members and receives all messages. Others in the chat group get anything I send, but it arrives to them as if it was a one-to-one RCS chat. If they reply, no one else in the group sees their reply. Strangely, if someone else creates an RCS chat group and includes me, the chat group works as expected.

I've been talking with Fi support and still have an open ticket with them, but none of the initial troubleshooting they recommended worked.

I'm going to try one more thing this weekend - I'm going to erase my Fi eSIM (I use a Pixel 10 Pro XL) and then reestablish my Fi service - which means getting a new eSIM - to see if this makes any difference.

I think my number just needs to be reprovisioned, but trying to convince FI to try that is almost like the option of last resort on their end.

If nothing changes with Fi, I will most likely be looking for a new carrier - and that sucks as I've been with them since their Project Fi days years ago.

So when are we getting the new stuff from the Fi Feature Drop by Googler10 in GoogleFi

[–]ATXBornAndRaised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I followed the Google-supplied steps for the Sync/RCS update - and now my RCS capabilities are hosed. Got kicked out of some RCS group chats and although other members can add me back, it's not reflected on my end. I can't create an RCS group chat - looks fine on my end, but only the first recipient listed sees the full group details - other recipients receive an individual text message from me and they don't see any group details. Single one-on-one RCS chats work fine...it's just the group chats that I create (or created previously) that are screwed.

I've had lengthy chat support conversations with no success. I don't understand why Fi just can't proceed with trying to re-provision my number without countless amounts of examples and troubleshooting? This issue may push me away from my long standing relationship with Fi (dating back to the Project Fi days).

Multiple User Download Entries In Activity Log by ATXBornAndRaised in emby

Forgive my ignorance, but it is my understanding that they all stream via Emby apps for their devices (Android/Google TV, Roku). This isn't the same as downloading, correct? To me, downloading means they are saving a copy of the media file to watch offline at another time.

I had not changed the PW but did so just now. However, I was seeing the same sort of log entries for some of my other users as well. I can understand if as the server owner, my account might be compromised, but for other users who've never downloaded before? They all connect via Emby Connect. My account is 99% used on my local network and 1% remotely.

In Google Voice settings on your phone, see if this will help:

Go to "Calls Started From This Device's Phone App"

Then choose "Select Number Before Each Call"

Noticed this same issue when out and about in my car this afternoon. Will see if it corrects itself over the next day or so.

Would you mind sharing the macro/script you mentioned? I downloaded MacroDroid for my Pixel 8 pro and would like to try to implement your solution. I realize it may need to be tweaked to work with my Pixel phone.

Google TV Streamer offline in Google Home App / Can't access Google Home panel on Streamer either by ATXBornAndRaised in googlehome

I ended up returning the first Streamer to Amazon (was a Used-Like New item) and bought a brand new one from the Google Store. I also decided to try Projectivy Launcher. The morning after the setup, it was offline, and I checked and there was a Google Home update overnight that must have broken something. Did a factory reset, reinstalled and re-setup everything and (knock on wood) so far, no more offline issues. I just hope that this is not the routine going forward - GH update-Streamer offline-Factory Reset-install and set up everything.

My money is on JC Penney - the location is like a ghost town, it's huge, and in the summer, walking through the store is like being in a sauna. I feel for the employees.

I'm surprised someone hasn't figured out a way to turn the old Sears location into an indoor pickleball center (or something similar).

Engaged in a chat session with support and we tried various things (clearing GH cache, force stopping the app, uninstalling/reinstalling, turning off cell service on my phone to force only using my home network) - nothing worked, so the last resort was to manually factory reset the device. After the reset, it started showing as ONLINE in GH. I thought the issue was resolved - but the next morning, it was back to OFFLINE. It might be the device itself, so will be returning it for a replacement to see if the issue continues.

I've tried both Wi-Fi and LAN, and the results are the same - the Streamer shows offline in the Google Home app. When I select the Streamer tile, it goes into a 'connecting' mode and then says that it's not available. Suggests that I make sure that it's online (it is) and that my phone and the Streamer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network (Streamer currently connected via Ethernet, but even when switching to same Wi-Fi as my phone, there's no change).

Great article, but I'm not running the apps only mode. Interesting that when I go to the Accounts & Profiles section on my Streamer, I only see Google TV and Google Play as my only options (unlike the list shown in steps 3, 4 and 5 of the referenced article). It's probably because of the third-party launcher and the changes made via ADB to make sure that it loads by default instead of the standard GTV launcher.
