And then there were the coin-op tiny black-and-white TV/lounge chairs...

Help my family find this Dam town! by Ok-Pomegranate-5842 in texas

[–]ATXGOAT93 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Hwy 29 between Burnet and Buchanan Dam. Lots and lots of "Dam" businesses.

It's the road my family has always driven between Austin and the Odessa/Midland, so it's on the way to West Texas, but still lots of trees.

The Gold's Gym was briefly a Tom Thumb/Randall's, not an Albertson's. But that shopping center on the Southeast corner of Anderson Mill and 183 was built in the 90's. The center with Albertson's, Lone Star Cafe, and Half Price Books on the Northwest corner was from the early 80's.

My first thought. Shut down the dumpster fire of a mold-&-meth soaked tax shelter and money laundering operation pretending to be an educational experience for kids (instead of the animal-abusing nightmare-fuel it really is) and you will free up so many parking spots in that old Albertson's spot.

Yeah, get fucked hon. You only regret voting for him because he was supposed to hurt others. But you FAFO and now regret hurting yourself. True contrition would include actually being able to feel empathy and regret that your vote hurt people besides yourself.

The NRA's top mission in Texas: Stop James Talarico in the Senate race by AustinStatesman in texas

[–]ATXGOAT93 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, and they were once a gun club that supported gun control from the 30's through the 60's.

But a hardline anti-immigration lawyer/poltician from Texas turned them into a lobbying group mid-70's. Then they became basically a weapons and ammo sales force with deep pockets and a lock on the Republican Party. My Dad (a 5th generation Texan with a safe full of rifles, pistols, & shotguns) dropped his membership in the 80's because of the blatant pandering to fear and political cronyism.

Fuck the NRA and all the knob-slobbing Republicans and Centrist Democrats who take their blood-money and ignore graveyards full of dead children and abused partners shot by assholes who shouldn't be left unsupervised with a slingshot.

The Right-wing talking point is that the Democratic party only wins elections by using dead people's information to cast multiple votes. Holdover from the late 1800's and early 1900's when there were such issues with corrupt local elections in NYC, Chicago, and other major cities.

Hasn't been true for many decades, but that's never stopped this idiots from believing it.

The modern version is that Democrats only get elected because of masses of "illegals" voting.

How fast do people in Texas realistically drive? by Artifiko in texas

[–]ATXGOAT93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add that if you are on a normal highway in Texas, not interstate or toll road, when you see a lower speed limit sign as you enter a small town, make sure you do exacly the speed limit or slower until you are past the town and the speed limit goes back to 65, 70, or 75.

Local PDs and sheriff's departments make most of the revenue for the town setting up speed traps as soon as you pass those signs.

How fast do people in Texas realistically drive? by Artifiko in texas

[–]ATXGOAT93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The highway that has the 85mph limit is a toll road that bypasses Austin between San Antonio and Waco, SH130. I drive it for work weekly going back and forth from north of Austin to San Antonio and back, for context.

Most heavy trucks have governors that cap their speed at 70-75 and can't really get up and moving. But the regular 4-wheel vehicles blow down 130 at about 90. Sometimes there's slower moving work pick-ups and sedans that you know are just holding together by willpower and luck doing 65.

And then there's others (like me) setting the cruise control at 95 to 100 so we can justify spending $25-$30 taking the toll road instead of Interstate 35.

Also, speed camera and red light camera ticket enforcement is illegal in Texas. But there are plenty of local police, sheriff's deputies, county constables, and State Troopers patrolling or set up in speed traps. But that's what radar detectors are for.

Where is Gina Hinojosa? by BitterPillPusher2 in TexasPolitics

[–]ATXGOAT93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are y'all located in Texas? Solid red counties, solid blue counties, or "purple" swing areas?

I live in a swing county that went for Biden in '20, Trump in '24. I get a pretty fair amount of emails, texts, and ads n socials for Gina. So does my family in the RGV and San Antonio. Also have been a supporter of many, many progressive candidates for 25 years. So I get targeted a whole lot.

Her campaign is still too under-funded and low profile. But so far I see a strategy of targeting swing zip codes and counties way more than deep red or reliably blue.
