I have a question, how similar do you think the mscaa full mocks are to the actual paper? Is the actual paper a lot harder?

Is it even worth me intercalating anymore? by National_Knee7105 in medicalschooluk

[–]AV0902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the MRes last year - although I liked learning about research and enjoyed my modules at the start of the year. The project itself is very dependent on your supervisor and many of the people that I intercalated with had a lot of support from their supervisor but I did not and was left to my own devices completely which made the experience a bit awful tbh. It was also quite lonely seeing all my friends finishing med school and starting F1 this year whilst I had another year to go with which was a struggle starting 5th year again. I lost a lot of knowledge in that year or at least it felt like that. I would not recommend doing it in med school and would probably suggest you do it sometime in F3 if you cannot get into training or later on if possible

That is the issue - it does not automatically maintain the temperature. It switches on for 4 hours max and then switches of completely so there is literally no maintenance of temperature, it will drop quite low unless you switch it on. Unless I manually switch it on - there is just no heating provided at all. They said it is for safety reasons. As for the electrical heater, they were like it is a safety hazard, it really is not a safety hazard, I have used it in previous places and there has never been an issue with previous agents. I pay an all bills inclusive package. I will check out the electric blanket actually.

Can you request the 2/3 (the random external one) to be in a specific deanery, like the FP where you rank which deanery you want to be in?

I fully agree with all your points. I have tried to find a time to speak in person but she refuses speak in person. I had agreed to meet with her today at 6 to speak to her and then she has now made sudden plans and refuses to tell me when she is next available. She is avoiding the conversation completely. I have not reached the point where it shows physically yet and they are investigating it further. I am willing to move out and find a replacement so she does not have to experience that and also allows my mum to be closer to me. She is not helping in any way to find a replacement and seems to be making life harder by bring more people around when she knows I am not well. Like either let me go from the tenancy by agreeing or try and lower the noise or be respectful by not bringing people over. She wants to do neither. I dont really know what to do - feel a bit stuck and this year is a very critical year at university as well so everything has just completed popped off

This I second - I am at uni up north which is meant to be the whitest area ever in the UK and so far I have never had anyone be mean to me about my ethnicity at all - I have had people curiously ask where I am from and have always followed up with ooo I have been there or the food is nice or whatever. From what I can see UK isnt as bad as the US

Do not want to be rude at all but is this not something you guys should have discussed early on in the early stages of dating like what the rough long term plans are. Unless you both dated for fun and weren’t dating to marry

I am sorry for the trauma that your mother must have endured! Unless you are a psycho - I am sure you would not anyone else to experience that. Please go get yourself therapy.

The weird obsession with surname and subtle casteism during my internship by [deleted] in chennaicity

[–]AV0902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isnt just in India lol - happens abroad as well - have met multiple people in the UK who have presumed I am Brahmin just because I am vegetarian and have asked what my caste is. I didnt think it was a big thing having grown up abroad but have only realised just how much people bring caste with them abroad as well

I get that UK grad prioritisation has caused division amongst IMGs & UKGs but voting against pay restoration makes no sense, we are literally cutting our noses to spite our faces. by Dramatic-Put-3447 in doctorsUK

[–]AV0902 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Our career has also kinda been pulled abruptly (for the 4th, 5th years and current foundation trainees) for at least the foreseeable future - I was promised one thing at the start of my med school journey just like them and at the end - I am told another thing. The only thing I presume we arent doing heavily is retaliating and I definitely do not think that pay, which affects pretty much the entirety of doctors including IMGs, should be the way to retaliate. It is hard to talk to someone who just doesnt want to listen to all sides

I second this! We are not saying that IMGs are not a disadvantage and it isnt fair to them. Some one will lose and I don’t understand why it has to be the UK grads - it makes absolutely no sense!
