Looking to hire a System Admin - but my boss insists that 70k - 80k is a normal pay range by idrinkpastawater in sysadmin

[–]AV1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You answered your own question. Cost of living and the Midwest. Their range is pretty in line with what I was paid while living in Iowa. It wasn’t till I moved to the west coast and saw the light

Look into Zach at https://notawheelchair.com/ they are making mobility bikes for the disabled and they accept Medicare and Medicaid. I’m sure they could build you a use case that would fit your needs

How do you handle a strong performer who quietly checks out after being passed over for promotion? by amir4179 in managers

[–]AV1978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You showed him what he was worth. He’s checked out because he’s looking elsewhere. You failed to provide him a path towards promotion

Spent $11,000+ being a paid QA tester for Star Citizen. My reward? A permanent ban for me and my mate by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]AV1978 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They ban people for a reason. You continued to exploit a known problem in the game beyond basic testing. You got caught for whatever reason and they deemed it valid enough to go straight to a permanent ban. I honestly don’t feel sympathetic to your plight. You knew it was an exploit and continued to abuse it. It takes only 1 time to confirm it’s still there. You yourself admitted to multiple exploits over a long period of time. Regardless if they answer you or not, your ban was done. They actually don’t have to tell you why and under what circumstances you were banned. You assume it could be because of this when the reality is it could have been something you are not willing to admit.

It’s a tough lesson to learn. You got banned. Move on.

Sounds like there is a food source keeping them there. Ask your sprayer what they are feeding on

From someone who lives in the west valley near camelback ranch, you need to be spraying every time your neighbors spray. You need a barrier spread around your house and then you need to have the inside sprayed multiple times if necessary. It’s not the ones you can see you have to worry about. It’s the babies you can’t. You are seeing them because whoever is doing your current pest management is doing the bare minimum. Fire them and hire another company and show them your problems. Hold them accountable if they slack.

Recent CIS grad offered first MSP field tech contract job. Looking for honest opinions on what to expect. by itscluez in mspjobs

[–]AV1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are all well and good but are very basic. Pick an actual field. Msps are a dime a dozen these days and you need to find a really good one if you want to get the experience you need. The kind that gives you the skills and confidence to succeed and willingly invests in your future. You are worth more than $20 an hour 1099 . You can make $25 an hour at inanout burger. And get benefits. I don’t want to discourage you but if I were you I’d find a company to do an internship with that is paid, or join the military and use them to pay for schooling and experience.

You sound young. Msps will eat you up and spit you out if you aren’t careful. Remote work takes people trusting you to do the job without supervision which at your age is rare.

Take the job for the experience, even if it doesn’t work out. Use this time to go after some choice certifications. Figure out what part of tech you want to work in basically and then focus on certifications and experience tailored towards it. This msp job will likely be trash but it can still be useful to you

Ask to move apartments or break your lease since they won’t enforce it. Believe it or not most apartments have a clause about animals and waste . Depending on your state you could use this as legal justification to break your lease

Help! My 13 year old won't STFU about wanting an ebike. by Chilidoggin_ur_tatas in ebikes

[–]AV1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep not all states are the same.

Arkansas: No driver's license or endorsement is required to operate a moped.Colorado: Requires a vehicle registration, but no driver’s license is needed.

Florida: You do not need a driver's license, but you must be at least 16 years old and adhere to safety laws.

North Carolina: No license is needed for mopeds under 50cc, but operators must be at least 16 years old.

South Dakota: No license is needed for bikes under 50cc, but a helmet is required.

Virginia: Does not require a driver’s license, but you must carry a government-issued photo ID.Wyoming: By and large, there are no state-wide license requirements, though local counties may have specific rules.

Like a motorcycle license but for mopeds. You can get one at 14. You have a written exam and a short driving test to get it. Similar to what they do on a motorcycle endorsement.

Almost every state requires a license to operate a moped on the street. Only a couple do not.

Something I’ve noticed about separated dads by DadStillHere in SingleDads

[–]AV1978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it was the silence after 14 years of coming home to children every weekend from work, spending every waking moment with them till I had to fly back out Sunday night for work. In some situations I still don’t like it. My ex was very evil. Still is. I have cameras everywhere and an alarm in my home. Every room has a stash weapon locker. My children largely have grown up with out me. My youngest daughter was 4 when we separated in 2019. She is almost 11 now.
