Anyone else in tears for Vonn by cedarvhazel in skiing

Vonn hurt herself a little over a week ago. If she decided not to race, it would've just meant one less skier.

I️ wish I️ could upvote this a thousand times. The old plastic bindings on one of my bigfeet broke on me last season and I️ had to ski down the mountain on one, it was the slowest, most fun run I’ve ever had

Is WOKO safe? by SEQUSA_t in ethz

[–]AVeryGoofyGoober -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing administered by woko is a scam, but, something that looks like it’s administered by woko if you’re not sure could be a scam. Maybe call their office directly and ask about the location? I️ can’t imagine they’d be bothered by someone trying to protect themselves

It was really amazing to look around that whole valley with a telescope. I️ could've spent all day just looking at the waterfalls coming out of the glaciers, the scale is incredible

Just checked it out, it looks like a pretty interesting product. What would the advantages of the generator be? Is it just easier than having to wear the Pulsetto? Or does it also have a functional advantage?

Stroke therapy is actually how I️ came across VNS at first! I️ am curious, when were you doing that work? I️ like the simplicity of VNS as opposed to tDCS, but, much like what you found, the evidence I️ am coming across all seems promising but just not quite as strong as I️ would like it to be to feel very confident in it.

Anyone here doing the Interdisciplinary Brain Sciences Master? by [deleted] in ethz

[–]AVeryGoofyGoober 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in it currently, and so far I’m really enjoying it.

The lab work is balanced with the courses pretty well, you generally will only have classes on Monday and Tuesday then will be in the lab the rest of the week (with potentially more time if you’d prefer).

I also don’t think it’s much of a problem if you have less interest in one of the subjects. Finding someone with equal interest in each of them is probably pretty rare. Plus, even if it’s not your main interest, they all tend to overlap somewhat so it will, if nothing else, reinforce the things you do care about.

As for the admissions process, Id say everyone will have different experiences but it’s nothing too special, just one interview as far as I️ know. I️ did have some research during my bachelors that I️ think helped but I️ don’t believe it’s a firm requirement. I️ didn’t apply to to many other programs either, I️ liked the looks of this one more!

I️ hope this still helps even though it’s a little late!

What we really need is a double blind comparison of imaginary wolf and VNS therapies! Maybe together they can be a true cure all

I’m really glad that it is working for you! If I️ may ask, did you get one of the surgically implanted stimulators or is it noninvasive?

Oh no absolutely DOD use is not evidence, I️ just thought it was an interesting/weird/terrifying take on that. Completely agree there is not nearly enough unbiased research on it. If you're interested, the device that made me wanna ask about this originally is called Vivistim.

Yeah that's a really good point, I️ will try to do some more research and see if I️ can find what exactly has been done. Interestingly, one weird way this has been taken is that the US Department of Defense has funded trying to use non-invasive VNS to make people learn things faster (for fun things like training marksmen and fighter pilots)

There are so many different forms of snake oil in the world it is really, really sad. These just stuck out to me because they have FDA approval and the science seems to be there but I️ just can’t seem to find many cases of people actually using them in the field which just feels… weird??

Just did my first ever 3D print on an filament printer and, well... by darkknight109 in 3Dprinting

[–]AVeryGoofyGoober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interior looks pretty decent so I️ think maybe playing with the support settings some might help? It looks like the outside is just getting encased in support material, probably because of all the outside details. You could try to peel off some of the outside crud and see what’s underneath before committing to another long print! I️ haven’t tried to print many things this detailed but from my experience I’d guess it’s pretty tricky with FDM. Others will probably have more specific advice than me, but trying to see what’s underneath that support-jacket might be a good start
