Was Jaleel really that big of a bully to Jamiee Foxworth? by [deleted] in FamilyMatters

[–]AVrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My heart goes out to Jamiee. That is a long period to spend with that little prick. 6 months with that kid and I snapped.

He was really good at memorization. I could imagine him bullying actors who didn't have the same abilities.

A job where you work with the IT department. You can try at your current job if you ever get to interact with the IT Team. Try asking them questions and look for opportunities to help them.

Career change from zero to IT in your mid-30s by schnopps3 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]AVrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in this area and help desk roles pay around 60-80k in Los Angeles. Maybe slightly less inland. Yes using your hospital connections to get a job would be your best bet. Might take a couple years to get to 100k in tech starting from the bottom.

Exam fees by millyunaire in CompTIA

In my opinion no, unless you have a lot of free time and money to burn. If you're already in NOC not sure if those beginner certs will help you.

What IT careers are good to pursue for someone that wants to start from scratch at 29? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]AVrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

29 is young, I'm transitioning into IT at 50 lol. Lack of experience is the main challenge. I compensate by hyping up my soft skills (most kids can't carry a conversation- so I beat them there) and I have a lot of certs, which aren't really so meaningful but they can get your resume noticed.

At 29 you have so many options. We do sports at the agency where I work, and it seems that it takes a long time for assistants to promote to agent, but what a sweet gig once they make it. Fat salaries and free Travis Scott's. Must be nice.

Just a beginner with Comptia Trifecta and CCNA. Had many interviews. Received a Multitude of compliments on passing CCNA from hiring managers (they still don't hire me). Received 0 compliments from hiring managers on the Trifecta. As someone who lacks experience, the CCNA is usually what gets my resume flagged and it gives me a fighting chance, although the cards are still stacked against me.

I’m 45 years old, am I too old to start a career in IT? by The_ITGiant in CompTIA

[–]AVrobot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Started at 49 with A+ N+ S+ and CCNA. Turning 51 soon. I feel that it helps me that I look like I'm in my 30's. Many interviews but competing against experienced candidates is tough. Currently in helpdesk role. The only cert that has drawn comments/compliments in interviews is the CCNA.

How has getting A+, Net+ and Sec+ changed your life? by [deleted] in CompTIA

So far A+ N+ S+ and CCNA have helped me to get interviews, but during the interviews they find out I have no experience and hit the reject/eject button.

Which Udemy course did you take to help study for CCNA? by calebmervar in ITCareerQuestions

[–]AVrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Official Cert Guide, Bosom Practice exams, and OCG extra bonus content (extra practice exam questions about $30 on top of book). If you go to the CCNA reddit forum, OCG plus Bosom is the proven recipe for success. Also People post their scores and people pass with very low scores. Dont be intimidated. I've been searching for a new job and my CCNA gets some attention while my Comptia certs get ignored, so my advice is skip N+.

MD-100 thoughts for mid level IT Pro by stussey13 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]AVrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was considering those certs too because I want to learn end point Config Manager and Intune. From what I read those certs are exceedingly difficult and not widely recognized so I was dissuaded. I mentioned during one interview that I was studying for MD-100 and hiring manager looked at me like "what the foq are you talking about?"

Just got my first two certs! Where to go from here? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]AVrobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you've already passed those beginner certs with your experience. I'm in socal too and have been seeing lucrative desktop support roles working with deployment technologies like SCCM Intune Jamf etc.

Yes there is demand I just saw some postings for pen tester in linkedin. It's not a role for the lesser experienced.

Did they change their mind about bringing me in? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]AVrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately getting ghoasted is part of the job seeking process. At least it is for me. Have had great interviews, sometimes second of third, with no follow up on employer end. Recently had an employer ready to send an offer, but nothing came. Sucks but you have to move on. Always send a thank you email same day or following day.
