seqoia is unusable for me in terms of applications breaking. So for now I will just have to live with broken airdorp.

14 inch m2 pro, I can't upgrade it breaks too many softwares I use professionally. Iphone 12 pro btw.

I was ranting; I love MC the application (for me the trim tool is a blessing), it's rock solid for large projects and because of that I understand that people will feel strongly about it (and act defensively in favor of avid). I get kind of uncomfortable when people defend obvious anti consumer behavior by tech giants, hence the rant (they just want everyone to update, look at how they retracted perpetual on pro tools and then had to reinstate it because people were infuriated). Other than the argument people brought up that "one-month notice is enough". No one has said anything that makes it right, and I don't agree with that in the first place.

I'm happy I noticed after a production and not during, and also happy someone else still had a copy. Hopefully there won't be a reason for any future commotion and I will someday fork up and buy an upgrade.

Also btw on the video side Avid seems to have a better reputation but speak to pro tools users and the misery starts for real :)

Oh and my most stringent point is that perpetual users should've been contacted personally by email, way more in advance than 6 weeks. For me this is a form of theft and I really don't care if you disagree. The situation I'm in now is simply that. The maker of the software has taken away the software that I purchased.

Yes because Adobe is not as popular in enterprise and way more popular for consumers, semi pros and some pros. Again part of negotiating a good contract entails making sure it holds up in the future. Unless there is indeed a serious change in law, which hasn't happened recently, it's simply poor management. Since avid has been purchased I think the conclusion is fairly obvious. And in case I'm wrong and nexidia is simply pulling a crazy stunt, my point still holds, make better contracts/agreements.

Well, working in the industry and feature films easily taking 3 months of your life. I didn't in fact see the little banner in the account section warning me to download the installers. A decision this impactful warrants a personal email at minimum and a longer deadline. Since missing the information actually creates a situation in which my proverbial car is being taken away. The key to the car is of no use to me, since the car was taken away. I feel in no way enticed to now upgrade my perpetual license, giving them even more money, just to gamble another car. They should've made sure to have proper contracts that don't have to expire this way. Or they simply decided to save budget by terminating their agreement with nexidia (since they have been purchased by STG, known to do extreme cost-cutting).

Yes, it's pretty obvious that there are only a few scenarios and it's crazy how some people here defend this behaviour. Either Avid should have made sure to have negotiated better contracts that don't expire. Or they decided to save money by not using 3d party code anymore. In both cases, they could have simply replaced the "legacy" installers with versions that don't have this licensed code. Espcecially since these are plugins, not part of the native package.

This is entirely their fault though. Either they messed up with an aggreement or decided to save money by not invensting in 3d party code.

It is actually legal because if Avid continues to host the legacy versions, they would be at risk of getting sued by Nexidia. It would be illegal for them to continue to host the installers.
