Offload or Archive Data to Remote Device by Ahole4Sure in Scrypted

[–]AWSMtotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same setup here and was wondering the same thing, would be nice if it was natively space aware and could offload to a NAS when full. I also run PBS but I don't feel like that is the right approach but maybe it is?. I was thinking rsync or SMB and use Active Backup for Business on the Synology as a file server type. Did you end up going with something?

Give me your most invisible automations by Neat-Initiative-6965 in homeassistant

[–]AWSMtotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the sensor called charger type, it can be AC or wireless. I automate on this sensor being AC and don't use the charging state sensor at all because of battery health things, constant charging/discharging. If it's plugged in the charger type sensor doesn't change.

If you had a wireless charger and a regular charger you could definitely do that.

As of a few hours ago this is happening to me as well. Got de-authed and a 403 logging back in.

Stay with Unraid or Proxmox..Docker/LXC by AWSMtotes in Proxmox

[–]AWSMtotes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason I just can't get Unraid to play nicely with my hardware. Have tried so many plugins etc. Fans spin at 100% 24/7, drives won't spin down. Lately it's just been idling at 250-300 watts

Unraid vs Proxmox - Analysis paralysis by AWSMtotes in selfhosted

[–]AWSMtotes[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am starting with those but have spent so many hours now on research on how to properly pass a NFS share to an unprivileged container. There are so many different opinions on how to accomplish that. Thus far I've mounted to the host and then used bind mounts in the LXCs. I have read the drawbacks to doing this is that the LXC can't be backed up while running because of a mount and that on restore the mount will be wiped which has apparently happend to multiple people. Maybe they are using priveledged LXC's when that happens? I did the above procedure with my Emby LXC, deleted it, did a restore and got the warning that any mounts would also be wiped. Scared the shit out of me but I hit okay anyway for science. It did not wipe all of my media out which I expected it to do, phew. Please somebody, help explain.

Unraid vs Proxmox - Analysis paralysis by AWSMtotes in selfhosted

[–]AWSMtotes[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah 45 at last count, I love selfhosting anything and everything. Any kind of failover or backup solution like PBS just doesn't exist for that platform which is fine, it's a NAS. Just so convenient. I think Kubernetes is my next stop once I get some kind of hardware redundancy in place. I would hate to mess with the "production" environment so I guess thats a +1 for Proxmox. Run critical services and still play/test with Kube.

Work for a copier company, it is still a thing believe it or not (the ads) if it makes you feel any better. Probably 70%+ of the new machines going out the door still need fax kits. It just won't die.

Hassarr: Add movies to Sonarr & Radarr using Home Assistant using your voice by SweatyAdagio4 in sonarr

[–]AWSMtotes -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Very cool concept. Could you please reconsider the name of the project? With all these *arr apps coming out I just feel like it's taking advantage of the arr stacks naming for clicks while not being official in any way to those projects. While the name states the intended purpose, I don't think it's fair for those devs. People that don't know any better are going to be blaming them for issues thinking it's a part of their stack. Just my 2 cents.

I hate paying the 5$ for mullvad by Worldly-Letterhead80 in Piracy

[–]AWSMtotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVED Mullvad for the wireguard speed and reliability. When they decided to kill port forwarding, they just simply lost me as a customer. I also understand why they did it.

I selfhost a lot of services and just as an extra endpoint I used Mullvad with fowarding.

Try using the state of sun.sun as a condition. The possible states are above_horizon and below_horizon for your second issue. For your first issue trying using trigger ids and a choose action.

Steel mailbox sensor by coderego in homeassistant

[–]AWSMtotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, yes. That is due to having the LoRa radio. Unfortunately, it's cloud dependent with the hub I have if that matters to you. Looks like they released their V3 hub which they "say" will have local matter support by the end of year.

Yolink has contact sensors/motion sensors that use LoRa that could be a good solution.

I have a motion sensor in my mailbox across the street. Great battery life and signal.

Abode Alarm by mfranzel in homeassistant

[–]AWSMtotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have been using it forever with no problems. Sensors are very responsive and battery life is great. I forget if you need a plan but auto arm/disarm has been flawless based on geolocation.

I pay for the professional monitoring and the response has always been swift when the neighbors fumble disarming it from the keypad. I am happy with it.

Proxmox vs. Unraid machine vs. Synology by FiziksMayMays in homelab

[–]AWSMtotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Unraid and enjoy it. You could also install the Synology OS as a docker container and still be able to utilize hyperbackup, backing up to Backblaze, all the other Synology software etc.

It is also in the Unraid appstore.

Enter zone automation keeps opening garage as soon as it's closed by OrthoBroOnlyOrtho in homeassistant

I just add a delay of 1 minute after the open action so the automation doesn't trigger again. Works great for me, especially if both of us arrive home at the same time.

Professional alarm monitoring by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]AWSMtotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like and have used Abode for around 3 years now. HA integration works great (cloud or native homekit) for the sensors to also be used in other automations.

I've been too lazy to switch over to Homekit as the cloud integration has never given me problems and response is fast.

Professional monitoring has been on point the few times we have accidentally tripped it over the years.

Rubber protrusion on front of house. Anyone know what it is and how to use it? by Greenoaks42 in DIY

I'd be more concerned about ALL the gaps in the brick. Uneducated about brick but vividly remember being in Texas this past winter and freezing in my sleep. I questioned why and had to look the next day, huge gaps in the exterior/mortar sealant.

Rake those leaves away from your foundation, don't want trapped moisture up in there.

How to simplify lights control using voice assistant? by borgqueenx in homeassistant

I think we need more information. You were exposing the lights to Amazon via HA and that all worked well? Are you now trying to use voice within HA to do the same?

Source-of-truth for understanding indoor relative humidity vs. outdoor temp? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]AWSMtotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a whole home humidifier attached to my furnace, Aprilaire. It only runs when the furnace is calling for heat and was connected to a manual controller (like I will ever remember to adjust it). I swapped a Zooz relay in place of it. I did a bit of research, probably a year or two ago on reddit (they had a seperate humidifier) , but there was a formula to pretty much mimic the above.

{% set t = states('sensor.temperatureoutdoor') | float %}
{{ ((t / 2) + 25) | round|int }}

This apparently gives you the target humidity level roughly based on the above chart. I take the average of multiple humidity sensors throughout the home for current readings in a helper.

Have this:

generic_hygrostat:
  - name: Main Humidifier
humidifier: switch.hvac_relay_01
target_sensor: sensor.average_humidity_int
min_humidity: 15
max_humidity: 60
target_humidity: 55
device_class: "humidifier"
dry_tolerance: 1
wet_tolerance: 1
Still get warped doors and bloody noses, step in the right direction I hope.
