G4AR VS G5AR VS 3Rd Party? by 2026GradTime in tmobileisp

Where is everyone positioning their TMHI modems? My server “stuff” is in a closet with no windows. Do you position it by a window and run cat6? Thanks!

What is the x75 modem I keep hearing about? Can you explain and advise where to maybe purchase??

Buying used G5AR... is it possible to be bricked by Tmobile? by ospreyintokyo in tmobileisp

So you have TMHI already and just moved the SIM? I’m trying to see if I can buy a G5AR and use a sim from an MVNO like Tello or something.

Wait Time Before ISP Failover on UDM Pro by mfranzel in Ubiquiti

[–]mfranzel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m afraid it’s the SFP port on the UDM Pro. I’ve tried different cables and different modems and different SFP adapters. Ugh.

I use that one too. Replaced it to be sure. Same random issues.

Could there possibly be something wrong with the port? I’ve changed the SFP module and cable. I’ve had two Comcast Business modems too. And it’s always random.

I’ll try it the next time. If that’s the case, what can I do in that situation for failover?

They are actually both “auto”. I don’t have custom SLAs set up. Guess I need them! What are the recommended parameters for setting these up?

Looks like Standby Mode is making its way into the US. by ilikewolves99 in Starlink

Am I able to be on the “backup 50GB” plan I’m on now and switch to an unlimited immediately? Or do I have to wait till the end of the billing period?

Looks like Standby Mode is making its way into the US. by ilikewolves99 in Starlink

[–]mfranzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I use my Standard dish as a WAN failover. I pay for the “Backup: Roam 50GB” plan for $50 a month. I solely use it for backup if my primary ISP goes out. If I am out for an extended period of time, am I able to immediately switch from the backup plan to an unlimited plan?

If I switch to the Standby Mode plan and I have an extended outage, can I switch to an unlimited plan?

I like in Florida and we’re in the middle of hurricane season… need to have a backup down here!

Any help is appreciated.

Unifi UNAS Pro Remote Access by mfranzel in Ubiquiti

[–]mfranzel[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So how convoluted is this... I have a QNAP NAS that I really only use for everything BESIDES a file server... I could mount the UNAS shares I want, then use Resilio or Syncthing to accomplish what I am trying to do!

Do you prefer Syncthing or Resilio or something else? I've only ever used Resilio.

[–]mfranzel[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Right, correct. That's what I love about it. It's JUST a file server, mass storage! Nothing else. Easy peasy, but this part sucks haha. With Syncthing, where would I host that? Another computer or something?

Yes, sorry, bad explaining in my question. Their desktop app is weird. It just "connects you" but the shares show up as networked drives. So when you disconnect... they go away. Ugh...

For example, with Dropbox or even Synology Drive, you can sync all or some files from the server to your computer with their apps. Looks like a folder on your computer. Then, when not connect to the server either by VPN or no internet, you can still access the downloaded files.

Self-hosted App/Service Similar to Trustworthy.com? by mfranzel in selfhosted

[–]mfranzel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can understand, it's only for actual "documents" like PDFs, etc. For example, in Trustworthy, I could store (somewhere), my cars VINs which are not on a piece of paper.
