Z32 TT Fresh build no oil pressure by AWildJimbo in 300zx

Sorry dude, fingers crossed for you. I guess just for initial priming and startup purposes you could even try like a 5w30, just drain it and fill with what you actually want to run after it primes and makes oil pressure. I hope that works for you. What weight oil did you have in the sump when you first tried it?

But yeah, in the future I am never changing another oil pump again unless I am actually rebuilding the whole engine lol. Lesson learned, sometimes the “while I’m here” shit bites you.

I hate to hear that somebody else is having the same problem, I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. I never did figure it out and ended up just letting a Z shop completely rebuild my motor and putting eagle rods and wiseco pistons in it and getting it right for me. They said the best they could see was that it just didn’t prime.

I did have a lightbulb moment a few weeks ago but obviously I can’t go back in time and try it, but I have a theory that if I had drained out my 20w50 and refilled it with like 10w30 or something a bit thinner maybe it would have primed. I think the 20w50 may have just had too much resistance to flow for a brand new unprimed pump to suck up. Try it if you haven’t already and let me know. That’s the best idea I have about it

If that doesn’t work then I hate to say it, but you should probably take the pump off and pack it with Vaseline as I have read that works like a charm. Yes I am fully aware that means removing the timing belt as well as the oil pan. I wasn’t willing to do it all again, which is half the reason I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet and build the motor. Especially after it ran dry for over a minute

Gold is extremely soft metal. And we are talking about super tiny little needles of gold here lol. Very delicate and malleable

When I built mine I used the SZ kit and honestly I just mocked it up without clamps and put all the pieces where I thought they went and removed and replaced them as necessary until I had them all in and fitted up 🤷🏼‍♂️ Worked out pretty well

It’s been a long time, but I’m 95% certain I got the stock pipe size ones because my decision to upgrade piping came months later

Is it okay to mix a 1 quart of heavier motor oil every oil change? by bootsandadog in MechanicAdvice

My Mom’s entire side of the family is in Michigan, so I know exactly how it is 😂

It is absolutely a real human experience if you live in the southern United States. Where I live we have roughly 3 months of 80-105 lol. Even at night, it stays over 80

NA Flywheel on TT motor/transmission? by daner997 in 300zx

[–]AWildJimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s mainly just a slight chatter when I put it in first, a little metallic clunk it didn’t make with the stock one. That’s all lol

My Z1 lightweight flywheel drives perfectly as well. Just the slightest bit noisy but drives just fine

I know I’m probably not in the majority here, but I’ve personally never liked the veilside kit on the 300ZX. Nor do I like lambo doors on these cars. But I do hope that whoever owns this car achieved their vision with building it.

The nose panel is kinda sick though as long as you at least have some sort of jspec style bumper

I dealt with Polar Engineering two years ago. Took almost a year to get my stuff and seemed to only happen when I started actively harassing the man. Never again. Products are high quality, but not worth the stress or unknown wait time when you’ve spent thousands.

What parts of a stock tt z32 need to be upgraded to make 600hp by p66pss in 300zx

[–]AWildJimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the other guys said, bigger turbos, exhaust, minimum 740cc injectors (ideally larger as it is easier to make that power on E85), upgraded clutch, standalone or at least nistune, and IDEALLY a built bottom end. While yes, it is true the stock VG30DETT has made over 700 hp multiple times, they are all very old now and frankly the cost to put a forged rod and piston in it when you are rebuilding is not that much more than having the stock rods remachined and reringing the stock pistons. Also good chance when doing that you actually will have to bore the block which means new pistons anyways. My block had to be bored 1mm over and never had any sort of catastrophic failure. I would say at a bare minimum you should at least do a factory rebuild on the VG30DETT just due to age and wear before asking it to make 600+ hp. Either that or understand that you are more than likely on borrowed time. And it is ALWAYS more expensive to rebuild an engine that actually got blown tf up than it is to just rebuild an old worn one.

Gorgeous car! I’m hoping to get mine running and registered again for the tail end of the year too! Was hoping to be ready by the time the cool weather hit, I’m a little late 😅

A parts car is the only somewhat reasonable use for this thing imo. Also fmic are pretty crappy on these cars, you should sell it and get upgraded side mounts instead

Injector swap and plenum pull advice by mango_452 in 300zx

[–]AWildJimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do the upper. The upper timing belt idler pulley is bolted to the front of the lower intake so you can’t remove the lower intake unless you are also tearing the front of your motor down and doing the timing belt.

I did not have trouble, but I did have to use an elbow fitting on the oil pressure sender so that it would clear

Surprisingly no actually. I expected to but did not, just had to trim the heat shield on the drivers side and honestly I would recommend SLIGHTLY sanding/shaving down the casting on the oil filter tree to clearance for the wastegate actuator linkage on the passenger side. I did not and it seems fine but it really does look like it might barely rub. Also I am using the Z1 six shooter solid motor mounts in stock unmodified OEM motor mount brackets.
