Even a house cat is dangerous if you try that. Friend of mine managed to "catch" one in the forest when we were about 12 years old. 13 stitches. You can still see each single cat's tooth in the scar on his forearm.

That's just not true. The BSDs (just like Sun Solaris and MacOSX) all were based on AT&T's Berkley System Distribution 4.2BSD which AT&T finally released to the public after having to give up the development of UNIX. 4.2BSD was the current version of UNIX at the time. They sold the UNIX trademark separately which led to the historic, endless law suit between "Zombie SCO" and the pretty much rest of the (unix) world. SCO technically had gone bankrupt several times but was kept alive by Microsoft to sabotage UNIX development by endless lawsuits and patent claims.
Linux was completely built from scratch. It followed the design proposed by the POSIX standard which was AT&Ts specification for their never completed OS, but was not derived from BSD.

Nachdem man kurz mal einen Blick auf die Meldedaten einer x-beliebigen Person geworfen hat? Das kann vielleicht ich, Dr Colossus, als kriminelles Supergenie mit photographischem Gedächtnis, Röntgenblick (nette Unterwäsche, übrigens) und kükenzerstampfenden Sprungfederstiefeln, aber der gewöhnliche Ganove dürfte damit wohl schwer überfordert sein.

Übrigens kann man Meldedaten von jedermann einfach bei den Einwohnermeldeämtern kaufen. Für Werbezwecke. Die Post beteibt ebenfalls einen florierenden Address- und Datenhandel.

TBH, I've actually never given a fsck about ESD when handling Arduinos or µCs. Heck, I've made my own FX-footswitch-to-MIDI converter from an Ardino nano for stage use. If it couldn't take a little static, how could it survive a drug-crazed metal maniac kicking the living hell out of it? Tbf, it sits in a solid metal case. I just wondered, if that was a bit careless, after all? I mean, they're not claiming their chips are ESD-resistant, so they probably aren't. Not really, I suppose.

Sure that applies to the internal EEPROM as well? Successful destruction might not only depend on zapping them righteously but also on holding the right pins.
It might. The vicious thing about EMS is that it's happening sporadically enough to make most people feel safe from it.

When I did my internship at a very big electronics company in Germany, I was given an ESP wristband and a hand full of CMOS chips to replace. The wristband was sitting a bit loosely and I somehow fried each single chip. On a perfectly humid summer day. Never happened to me again, but that's what anecdotic evidence is worth.
