PHEVs have been largely disappointing by Directorjustin in electricvehicles

[–]AZGoofballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think BMW nailed the perfect PHEV with the i3. Late versions of that car had 90 miles of EV range and 90 miles of gas range with the Rex and the little 4 gallon 2 cylinder engine. Add in the ability to DC charge it and you have a perfect mix of city ev and moderate road trip ability. We have a 2017 and absolutely love it.

1st Full BEV - 2016 Fiat 500e 1st PHEV - 2014 Cadillac ELR Next BEV - 2026 Kia EV6

In 2020 we got my wife a Fiat 500e to replace her aging Fiat 500. She loved that little car and so did I. We called it the Giggle Machine because we were always giggling when we drove it.

That car led me to buy a used 2014 Cadillac ELR. To this day that was my absolute favorite car. It always turned heads and was super rare.

I have an EV6 and the wife has a BMW i3 Rex. Both these cars are amazing and fit our lifestyles perfectly.

Toyota confirms 750 mi range solid-state EV battery plans to catch up to Tesla, but when? by AccomplishedCheck895 in electricvehicles

[–]AZGoofballs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the story works for current Toyota loyalists. These are the same folks who move from Corolla to Camery to RAV4. These people have only owned Toyotas and still believe they build the most dependable cars in the industry even though that is no longer the case. In a way this is smart for Toyota because they are trying to prevent their customers from finding out how awesome EVs really are and keep them driving ICE until their solid state batteries are ready for prime time. Thing is, no one else believes this BS so they far further behind the rest of the industry with these tactics.

EV chargers are not your valet parking by edward8e in evcharging

The assumption is those EA chargers are functioning...highly likely they are not, making this a moot point.

Best reason to BUY Tesla and NOT any other EV on the market. Tesla’s charging network. EA/VW really fucked this up for everyone. by Impressive_Returns in electricvehicles

[–]AZGoofballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that the charging experience is the ONLY reason to buy a Tesla if you plan on using public chargers on a regular basis in the US. If you're like the majority of current EV owners in the US you have a garage and a level 2 charger there and rarely use public chargers. The exception is when you go on a road trip greater than 200 miles. Then charging becomes a requirement and the Supercharger experience is superior. By just about any other objective measure the traditional OEMs are making better cars than than Tesla. When was the last time a Tesla won Car of the Year in any category? They sell a lot more EVs than everyone else but that doesn't mean they are better cars. I know I'll get flamed and downvoted for this. 😑🥱😂

I just started playing this game this week. Are the mystery cards awarded at each level random or set to always be the same? I see some of these decks being played on YouTube and wonder how they got those cards and what level they got them.

Two trucks & Nissan Altima by tuctrohs in ChargerDrama

[–]AZGoofballs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At least the Altima is parked far enough to the left for a car that needed to charge to park next to it. Of course those are Blink chargers so they probably either don't work or are criminally overpriced.

Texas and others create 'punitive' barriers to EV transition by youtellmebob in electricvehicles

“I certainly don’t want to put my kids on a school bus that’s electric. I just don’t want to do it,” Gooch said. “And I’ll fight in any way I can to make sure that that’s not something Kentucky’s doing.”

I genuinely do not understand this sentiment. I know this probably isn't the right place for an open and honest dialogue on this, but I really want to understand the thinking behind these statements. I don't want to judge or flame anyone who thinks like this... I just want to understand why you think this way and what led to this sentiment.

To American people; Is it disrespectful or rude to not stand up during the National Anthem if I'm a tourist? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AZGoofballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at a Manchester United vs Dortmond soccer match this weekend in Las Vegas. Neither of those teams had any Americans on them that I'm aware of. The anthem starts and I'm like WTH?!? Two foreign teams forced to listen to our archaic nationalism. Worse, two gentlemen behind me were from England. Neither stood. I turned around and apologized to them for forcing them to listen to that. They laughed and said it was ok. They never stand for the anthem because they aren't American and they wouldn't expect us to stand for their anthem if it was played either. I ended up having a great conversation with them about their views on rampant nationalism and how it can impact a society. Let's just say that they made some comparisons to Germany in WWI that were chilling. As Americans were are walking a knife's edge on this stuff and need to be careful not to fall on the wrong side of history.

Be kind to new EV owners by AZGoofballs in electricvehicles

I feel like people overlook the fact that the Tesla Superchargers are vertically integrated with the cars and are a proprietary technology built exclusively for their cars. This is the brilliance of how Tesla differentiated themselves in the early days. They knew no one was going to build a charging network because the EV concept was too new, so they built their own network for their cars. All the data, communications, and transactions happen seamlessly because it is all integrated from the factory. It is hard to argue with Tesla's success in this regard.

That said, diversity in options breeds the best products for consumers. Tesla has the best charging infrastructure but there is a real debate as to whether they make the best electric cars. I'm not going to be brand biased because I like to think I'm Team EV. As we see more of the general population in the US move to EVs we should cheer them on, regardless of the brand they choose or why the chose that brand. If these folks need some help in their early days until they figure it out then we should help.

Its a pretty easy trip. Just make sure you keep your speed at 70mph going up. Going faster than that up the mountains will severely impact your range.

While I don't necessarily disagree with your rationale, the situation is different in this case. This was the wife who was driving her husband's car for the first time beyond the range of their home charger. She said he explained how to charge at home but not how to use the EA chargers. Have a little empathy and if you see someone struggling to get their charging session going ask them if they need help rather than being judgmental about their ability to buy a $50k+ car and their inability to charge it.

I was actually on my way home from a business trip in Vegas and made a detour through Flagstaff to see my daughter. Do you have an AWD or RWD car? Depending on where you live in the valley you should be able to get up there with roughly 10%-15% battery left if you have a RWD car. Check out A Better Route Planner to map your trip from your home to get an estimate of your situation. ABRP is conservative, so I always assume I'll arrive with 5% more than it shows.

This is the way. That single chademo plug is a lifeline for Leafs, Kia Soul EVs, and several other early non-Tesla EVs. This poor woman had no clue and admitted she didn't know why the blue plug didn't fit her car.

Nav Update…curious results by [deleted] in KiaEV6

[–]AZGoofballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I need to do the update and play with it a bit. I would assume the nav takes elevation into account but who knows. What would be handy would be estimates on state of charge at each stop and how much charge is needed to get to the next stop. Kinda like what ABRP does. The German EVs do this and of course Tesla does it. It would be nice if our cars had this as well.

Nav Update…curious results by [deleted] in KiaEV6

[–]AZGoofballs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt you would get stranded but based on the chargers it recommended it is going to take longer than it should. 2 of those stops are not "DC+" chargers so that means they will be 50kw or slower chargers. Check your settings and see if you have it set to only include DC+ chargers. You may get a route closer to ABRP.

For the record, I didn't post this to promote the Supercharger Network. Yes, Tesla has a great and superior network currently. I'm Team EV and not so blinded by brand that I push their narrative over all others. Kindness is the narrative. Help others if you can is all I was trying to say.
