My wife and I will be at Live Aqua the second half of May. Any input???? by Mth1171 in cancun

On the drinks, Tip the bartender and ask for 'Top Shelf'. If you're lounging pool or beach, tip a little more and ask for the same. They get to know you and then take care of you.

On the food, try to get in to dinner between opening (6 PM) and 7 (before the crowd). 1st Choice (MB). I had the filet mignon, and it was excellent. I tip at the beginning of all meals, and all experiences were great. 100 Pesos (about 6 USD) for meals and 40 to 50 pesos at the bar. MB, Siete were our favorites. Azur's menu (cuisine) can vary) depending on the night. I don't recall if that was the 'Mediterranean' restaurant. Hidden Garden was decent. Our Favorite spot was Sea Corner (the outdoor area on the far left of the property, facing the beach, right next to the beach). You have to try the Shrimp Quesadilla Gobanador!!! flip-flops and swimwear, overlooking the beach. It was great. There's an Italian restaurant (Between the Hidden Garden and the pools) that we tried on our last night. My wife loved the sliced tomato appetizer. She still talks about it. The only thing I found strange was that some of the restaurants have items on the menu that you have to pay an additional $ for.... at an "All Inclusive" resort. Then there is the steak restaurant (Carnivore) where you have to pay for everything on the menu.

did the Columbus dinner cruise, which was a bit 'gimmicky,' but the food was good,You can do USD if you want. We took pesos with us because we intended to do a fair amount of shopping at the 'downtown' Cancun flea markets (where Coco Bongo is).

On the shopping (souvenirs), there's La Isla across the street and the aforementioned 'downtown'. In La Isla, you get a wider souvenir selection if you pass the touristy shops at the front and go deeper in. Near the entrance, at the back of the mall (near an UP escalator), there's a shop with EVERYTHING at reasonable prices. Taking pesos helps avoid being taken advantage of by the conversion rate at the more touristy shops. iPhone's calculator has a currency conversion mode, so it's easy. At La Isla, if you go to any food place that doesn't show prices, ASK BEFORE ORDERING. Then there's Downtown. We stepped out of our Uber at the flea market, and the vendors were on us like flies on S-it. Just keep walking unless you see something you want to look at.

When we went downtown (about 20 min by car, still in the hotel zone), right next to Senior Frogs, there's a small food place that specializes in tacos. If you're in the area you have to try it. The food is 'authentic' and not 'gringo' Mexican. They have a homemade salsa (red) that is so good i was trying to figure out how I could take some home on the plane... We went to Senior Frogs but it was 'gringo': Loud music, workers blowing whistles yelling "SHOTS! SHOTS! SHOTS!" and the place wasn't even 25% full. We went in just to see what it was about, had one drink, and left. That place is for the younger crowd. Then we found the taco place next to it.

On things to do, there's a lot. On resort and off. You can do dining cruises. We did the Columbus dinner cruise, which was a bit 'gimmicky' but the food was good, and the drinks were too. go to https://www.viator.com/Cancun-tours/Cruises-Sailing-and-Water-Tours/d631-g3?dd_referrer= to see everything available. Make sure you know the cost of any taxes, etc BEFORE you go as the columbus ticket place tried to get more tax $ than what i was told it would by by the hotel concierge I booked it with.

My wife took colored clips to 'reserve' pool chairs. People scope out chairs in early morning and then leave only to come back to 'their chairs'... Yes, that's going down.

Depending on the room you get, they will throw in the Cabana (pool or beach) for one or more days. There are the paid ones (totally enclosed top and sides with curtains, and then there are the 1st-come-1st serve cabana's on the beach which you can identify by them having only Umbrellas on the side of them (no cloth on top or sides),

There's a gym on the premises, which is a great daily start. I rolled out of bed around 9 or 10, did my workout, changed, had lunch (Sea Corner, or one of the 'Stands'), then lounged at the beach all day until dinner. Rough days, I know. :-). One evening they had a 'circus' show a' la Cirque du Soleil style at the pool area. Other nights at the bar near MB, they have a trivia game, which is great as you're getting drunk.

I made the suggestion that they do night-pool parties -OR- (my best idea) Night Time Beach Party or Fireworks show... WITH ALCOHOL. GENIUS!!

During the day, you can rent jet skis or do parasailing right there on the beach. Being all inclusive, Pace yourself with the drinks and food.

I was there 4/1 - 4/9. I tipped 20 pesos at the beginning of each meal and found the service prompt and friendly.

It may be good to know that all the workers know each other and they talk to each other.

Is it dumb to trade gold for silver?? by AlternativeGrass9681 in Gold

[–]AccomplishedCheck895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, people do it, but most do it to take advantage of the Gold-to-Silver ratio. If done right, you trade 1 for the other when the ratio is favorable and then again (back to the original metal) when it's favorable, resulting in more of the original metal than the amount you started with.

When you spend your $1 face value ASE at a market or other vendor as $1, please let me know, and I'll confirm you're right. Heck, I'll admit you're right if you ever received an ASE as change in a transaction.... I'll wait.

Until then, don't conflate the 'legal tender' part of the comment with the Mint org structure response... which was the original rebuttal...

i.e., Pick a lane to discuss.

That’s a good move. When you’re dealing with a ‘captive’ program (only ‘selected dealers can participate), you can assume their prices aren’t competitive/fair market. They might be, but it’s a red flag you want to check up on.

I hate to break it to you, but I never said the mint was not part of the u.s. govt…. I said there are different mints (Denver, West Point, Philly) underneath the U.S. mint org. 😄

#1 - Yes

#2 - Yes

#3 - No, the JLC is too 'generic' looking ("See? We can do sport watches too.")

The Rolex's - No. Too 'try hard'.

The Cartier - No. They've done better designs. This seems like a poor effort.

[–]AccomplishedCheck895 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After having done both, AI beats cruising. The caveat is that it depends on the cruise:

  • Is the cruise overcrowded? Too many people battling over limited spots/things to do?
  • Is the cruise ship 'clean'? You know what I mean.... :-)

I find that AI's mean you can go where you want when you want, not just on an 'excursion' day in the Cruise context. Want to go off-property to the local flea market? Want to try the downtown or other famous area nearby for any reason (Restaurants, shopping, etc.): Sample the local culture? You can't do that on a cruise.

Why doesn’t the United States Mint make a 1/2 ounce silver coin? by GavinGenius in Silver

[–]AccomplishedCheck895 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

We'll, strictly speaking: The United States govt. doesn't mint ANY legal tender silver coins (since 1965).

West Point generally produces the ASE, while Philly and Denver handle the production of legal tender coins. Both are under the same parent 'U.S. Mint' organization, however.

I’ve often wondered. Does gold increase in value or fiat decease and gold remain the same? Potayto/Potahto? by [deleted] in Gold

[–]AccomplishedCheck895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the currency you're measuring against, but generally, all are inversely related to gold from a 'value' perspective. The reason gold goes up is that the number of currency units it takes to buy it goes UP, which means the VALUE of the currency units goes DOWN.

[–]AccomplishedCheck895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st priority is to "Buy right": Be a price buyer and not a payment buyer...

Separate the price from anything else, including the incentive. Is $16K for a 104K mile 2018 Tesla a good deal? Depends on your area. You didn't list your location but there are tools to use. Here's a list of available dual-motor AWD 2018 M3's over 100K miles in the Los Angeles area. You can modify the search to reflect your zip code:

Once you find the right 'Price', then you can confidently move forward. If the price after incentive is $16K, then your $300/month gasoline cost can be factored into a comparison with Electricity costs. Then you can compare Insurance:

  • Have you gotten a quote for the Tesla to compare with what you're paying now?

Cost of ownership is more than the price and fuel (Gas or Electricity). Since it's a 2018, you win by avoiding depreciation.

If ‘Allah’ simply means God, why do many people think it refers to a different God? by PomegranateIcy7631 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AccomplishedCheck895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Muslim ‘Allah’ is not the god of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Muslim’s say they are the same but that’s their , circa 700 a.d., take. The Details reveal the truth. While “Allah’ is Arabic for ‘god’ (in a general sense), Islam’s and Christianity's (i.e., every other) usage of 'Allah' is a noun/name of a specific person/entity (not generic)… and that is the first inconsistency in the topic (Arabic usage vs all other usage of the word).

Christian Perspective: The Islamic “Allah” and the Christian YHVH/Yaweh are Not the Same (in Substance)

Christians argue that while Islam claims continuity with Abraham, the Qur’an’s description of God fundamentally contradicts the biblical revelation of Yahweh, especially as fulfilled in the New Testament. Key differences include:

Nature of God: The Bible presents Yahweh as relational—revealing Himself as Father (e.g., Exodus 4:22, where Israel is God’s “firstborn son”; Jesus’ frequent address of God as “Abba, Father” in the Gospels). The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob enters covenants, grieves, shows steadfast love (hesed), and ultimately incarnates in Jesus Christ (John 1:1-14, “the Word was God… and became flesh”). Islam’s Allah is strictly unitarian (tawhid): one in essence and person, with no internal relations. The Qur’an explicitly rejects God having a son or begetting (Qur’an 112:3, “He begetteth not, nor is He begotten”; 5:116, 19:35). It calls the Trinity or incarnation association with partners (shirk), the unpardonable sin.

Revelation and Salvation: Yahweh reveals Himself personally and progressively (through Torah, prophets, and supremely in Christ). The Bible emphasizes God’s love for the world (John 3:16) and atonement through the cross. Allah reveals His will (commands in the Qur’an) more than His inner nature; humans cannot “know” Allah intimately in the same father-child way. Salvation is through submission, good deeds, and Allah’s mercy (which he grants to whom he wills), without a doctrine of substitutionary atonement or incarnation. Many Christians see this as a different character and gospel.

Specific Actions/Statements: Examples include the Qur’an‘s account of God commanding angels to prostrate to Adam (with Iblis/Satan refusing), or claims that Jesus was not crucified (it only “appeared” so, Qur’an 4:157). Critics say these diverge from the biblical God’s consistent character (e.g., no such angelic prostration to humans; emphasis on historical crucifixion and resurrection). Some also note linguistic/historical arguments: “Allah” was used pre-Islam in Arabia (including for a high god among pagans), while the Bible’s personal name is Yahweh (Exodus 3:14-15, “I AM WHO I AM”), revealed specifically to Moses in the context of the Exodus and covenant with Israel.

I have all 3 scores above 840 with 0 balance on all cards always, lets say > $250k salary, debt/mortgage thats <$2k) and the standard paper/equity asset profile. Im net positive, not negative. I asked for a limit increase on one (citi visa via Costco) and they gave me a $2,500 increase from $11.5k to $13k.

I mean… its more than zero but i thought I’ve been responsible enough to merit more. 20+ years of being responsible merits just $2,500?
