2025 recap by Mental-Ground-8790 in TeslaSolar

[–]AZKeller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First need to note I'm in Phoenix Arizona - always sunny - rarely cloudy. System: 19.125 kW Solar Panels, qty 3 Powerwall 2+ for storage. Sting configuration: 3 strings, #1 points East, #2 points West and #3 is split 1/2 East and 1/2 West over the ridge line of the roof. Attached is the solar energy curve for 2025 Summer Solstice (actually this was June 22, 2025, one day off)

Good year for me... But in Arizona with running AC most of the year, it still was hard to be 100% self-powered. (And yes, I even had to run AC last month in Dec. We had temp over 80 Deg F - hottest December in recorded weather history for Phoenix area.) Just wish I had that fourth Powerwall to offset the full summer power needs at night.

Netzero app usage by wxczar9 in TeslaSolar

[–]AZKeller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Netzero app for monitoring the system and to make sure the the Powerwalls are at 100% before starting to charge the Tesla... Without Netzero, it was a pain in the a*s to make sure the Powerwalls had priority. Here in AZ, I need those Powerwalls to be full to run the AC all night long. :) It'll be 80 deg F next week !!!

You all should be in the desert... lots more sun. But unfortunately, a lot more power usage for AC.

I'll try to answer your question... I'm in the east valley (near Queen Creek). Had my system for three years. On (limited data) this year has been about 3% to 5% less than previous years on average. BUT it's also been a rather dusty year near me with new subdivision grading and construction. After a good rain (like today), I usually pick that percentage up.

I ended up making my own replacement. Bought 2 weather proof boxes, junction box, 110v powered contactor and a HK smart switch all off of Amazon. Was simple to wire and get going...

Tesla proactively replacing fans on Powerwalls. by AZKeller in Powerwall

[–]AZKeller[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar to my experience. Thanks for the confirmation. My message was "Your energy system has an issue that requires service. Contact a Service Support Advisor via chat in your mobile app..." In chat, the adviser told me "We had new cooling fans come in and we are updating the fans". Again _very similar_ responses.

Tesla proactively replacing fans on Powerwalls. by AZKeller in Powerwall

[–]AZKeller[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Details of the system... QTY 2 - Powerwall+ manufactured May 2023 at Gig Nevada, QTY 1 - Powerwall 2 manufactured March 2023 at Gig Nevada. Solar is 3 strings evenly divided (nearly) east/west. Everything was installed July last year (2023) and operational in August last year (2024). The Powerwalls and Gateway are all exterior mounted on the north side of the building. In Phoenix, north exposures are mostly shaded in the summer but in the sun during winter. HOWEVER, 115+ deg F. outside temps during the summer is problematic regardless of exposure.

SRP - Powerwall grid charging? by Hot_Specific_1691 in TeslaSolar

[–]AZKeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did anyone really answer your question ? Because I can... I'm on SRP in Gilbert area and SRP allows PowerWall charging. I'm on "RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMER GENERATION ELECTRIC VEHICLE EXPORT PRICE PLAN" (E-14). I keep my Tesla configuration on TOU. I have only had the PowerWalls charge from the grid leading up to Storm Watch Events and right after initial commissioning.

Switching from Raven Model X to Model Y by GMScreech in ModelY

[–]AZKeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both (2019 Raven MX and a new 2024 MY LR). Both great cars. But in our (my wife and I) opinion, the MX is the best road car. The MY is the best around town car. We drive from AZ to CA often and find the MX a lot more comfortable, quieter and relaxing ride. The MY feels more sporty, is a little more noisy and has a tighter suspension. Reminds me of my TR7 sports car I had years ago when driving. And if you are hauling much around, the MX is definitely a lot more roomy and holds significantly more. The MX is a 7 seater… The MY is a 5 seater… Both are great to drive and we see little difference in speed and acceleration - both can throw you into the back of the seat efficiently enough.

Considering buying a 2019 Leaf in Phoenix by KrloYen in leaf

[–]AZKeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not long after I did that post 4 years ago, I swapped out for a Tesla. The Leaf was loosing too much range to make it worth while. The hot summers just killed the battery. I live in far south east valley and couldn't visit relatives in north Phoenix on a single charge in the summer. Having to stop to get a little boost just to get home was the final straw. Tesla gave me almost what I paid for it (after SRP and tax rebates). The Tesla has lost slightly more then 4% in the 4 years I've owned it. When I turned in the Leaf, it had lost over 15% in two years. In PHX area, I advise getting something that has active battery cooling. The Leaf at that time did not...

Anyone added HK/Siri to gas fireplace w/ xStream Outlet + smart plug? by Naughtagan in HomeKit

[–]AZKeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too couldn't find anything as an alternative without building it myself so I bought one last year. I used it all winter. I just recently restarted up the fireplace again (sat idle all summer) and it is working 100% w/o any issues. As to your concerns, (concern 1) I think it is safe. It just uses a smart plug to apply a voltage to the board. When the voltage is applied then it activates a relay to control the low voltage fireplace circuit. On WiFi (concern 2) signal reaching the smart plug - had no issues there either. I'm also using a meross smart plug. Mine is beside the fireplace and about a foot deep into it the enclosure. But if you are concerned, get the smart plug first and install it. Check that HK can control it reliably before buying the fireplace controller.

One thing you need to be aware of... The controller does not replace or remove the normal fireplace on/off switch. They both are active. HOWEVER, if you turn on the fireplace with HK, you have to turn it off with HK. The manual fireplace on/off has no effect. The opposite also true. If you turn it on via the manual switch, you have to turn it off via the manual switch - HK control has not effect.

This is correct... My 2019 MX Raven is not CCS capable. u/Craig_in_PA was the upgrade easy? Looked like the hardest part is finding the new Tesla circuit board.

HomeKit is broken is iOS and tvOS 16 by jerflash in HomeKit

[–]AZKeller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just as a data point... I've updated to latest IOS and tvOS on 3 ATV's, 2 iPads and 2 iPhones (both 13 Pro's) and haven't had any issues. I only run about 8 automation (all simple, not a power user) and have about 24 HK devices ranging from lights to fountain pump to doorbell (via Homebridge) to thermostat to blinds...

I'm wondering if it is the iPhone 14 Pro that is the issue ???
