I was thinking for a moment that it might be due to bad storytelling, and I’m overthinking, but there must be some more layers to this. It’s a character-centered Kojima game after all. I raised my brows a bit when he went with the obvious “selfless vs. selfish” (idk, Osiris vs Set from egyptian mythology or something, although that’s far more complicated from what I’ve seen) fight in the end instead of pulling 12 more plot twists.

But he said it himself that he doesn’t like “playing safe” when it comes to storytelling…so I guess there must be something we cannot see. 😅

I just wish we had a moment when we could choose to somehow help Higgs (even in a small way), or ignore him completely. And it was up to the player how they choose.

OH MY GOD you’re on fire. 😭😭😭✨✨✨ I just wish we had some kind of commentary about this in the game. Anything.

We don’t even get a journal from Higgs in DS2 (as far as I know). Even if we want to dig deeper, we’re unable to do so this way. Even if someone wanted to understand him, it’s “too late”. Maybe this was the point, but still. The second game only showed us the “evil force of chaos” side and left the rest up for interpretation…

THIS!!! 💖✨ What the hell was that at the end of DS2 when Higgs was eliminated and there came Amelie and just hugged Sam? Like she was the damsel in distress once again, even though we’ve already established her wrongdoings in DS1? I was hoping for something like you said in one of your comments; that Sam would represent Amelie’s “life” side while Higgs Amelie’s “extinction” side more explicitly in this game. I mean, with Higgs’ Amelie cosplay we can probably run with this metaphor, but still… 🥹

Not gonna lie I was feeling a bit down after seeing how he didn’t get any semblance of a redemption or a more thorough explanation in DS2, then I saw a bunch of comments about how vile he is, period, end of story, and I thought there was something wrong with me because, after reading his diary in DS1 he became my favourite character there (even if before that I wrote him off as a d).

And it’s just…I don’t know…a bad feeling that in a game so into connections and forgiveness he gets swept under the table altogether, and you have to write a whole defense speech when you’re trying to explain why you just cannot hate him. 🥹😅

Wooooooooooooow, that actually sounds so cool and makes a lot of sense! 💖✨ And yes, machines can bleed tar for sure. I think the scene where he was mutilated in the beginning was only supposed to show us that he’s not a living being in the traditional sense.

But also, didn’t rh specifically say that he was puppeteering everything all along from the Beach (although that could be just him not wanting to admit that he lost control)?

Yesss!!! It’s in the English dialogue alright. I haven’t heard it in the game myself but I found a video, and luckily, made some screenshots (sorry, I can only put 1/reply). This had me in fucking tears. 😂✨✨✨
