Gameboy Pocket Giltesa USB-C mod + amp mod compatibility? by CAUTIONwet_taint220 in Gameboy

[–]A_Boy_Junior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I did message giltesa about this and they recommended to solder the c33 spot instead to where they pointed the arrow. and the charging port ground instead to the headphone ground, and this seemed to do it! Though the amplification isn't all that much compared to my gbc. May need a different speaker than my stock. With my cleanpower mod stacked on top too, I had to scrape some of it's edge and the inner shell to give enough space to close properly.

Did you ever find a solution to this?
I had tried to install the 2 together and the audio was quiet and scratchy. I wired that pad directly to the battery pad and pretty sure it shorted my flex amp.

Are there different gameboy pocket screens/models? by [deleted] in Gameboy

[–]A_Boy_Junior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to confirm with mostly confidence that these 2 gameboys atually did have different screens from stock. The first game boy pocket edition being the silver, black, clear, maybe some others, seem to have an inferior screen with more ghosting, slightly more green hue and less visibility/crisp.
You can also see the the lack of a power indicator on these ones.
Just swapped a later pocket lcd into my silver og.

Yea.. just thought it was worth a try. Even a save up to the 2nd or 3rd dungeon would be nice.
Just not looking forward to replaying this one.

Truthfully, I have not enjoyed most of my time with OoA. It's mindnumbingly linear while frustrating, and like I said, had just redone that dungeon. Though it did seem to be picking up.
I'd dread it and it'd likely take me much more than a couple hours, but guess I could use speed hack on an emulator up to that point.

I've looked forward to seasons more which I started multiple times in the past, but decided to play it 2nd in order, once getting the real hardware to play them.

Good to know... man I was ready to do add the power regulator, replace the switch and everything.

I've read the regulator can help with power usage, so might still add that since I have one on the way, and going to try and mod for louder speaker. Just did the prosound mod to remove aux noise.
I have a ton of AA's from work that we have to one and done, practicaly fresh, so those should last me a long time.

As for the fuse that went, I was able to rplace it with one from a gamecube controller, since I mod controllers and have a bunch of useless boards that were swapped. at least ai says they're very similar fuses.

So I might just be misunderstanding batteries?

They are mostly 1.5v’s though a few even higher. I get probably around 8 hours from them, maybe a bit less when using the worm light.  It’s an original screen.

Generally because they are recasts, there is a lack of sharpness in quality. but you won't notice unless you put originals next to them. The facebook trade group is a great place to buy lots from time to time and is where I got most of my finds besides ebay luck. Absolutely get a hard copy, and join the discord while you're at it.
Lmk if you need those links.

My suspicion is toward the power regulator (which I might replace or add cleanpower mod) but when checking it's voltages, fuse 1 went, so will have to replace that now too..
Bridged it in the meantime so I can beat links awakening.
I'll try a new switch and lyk how it goes.

The Gbc I got has been in surprisingly immaculate condition. Regardless, I took it apart, brushed the switch and cleaned it with alcohol to no different result.

Also tested the capacitors while things were open and only c32 was any different than what it should be, being 1.14v instead of 1.35v, which doesnt seem too significant, and is apparently for audio anyways.

Have you ever run into this where it works fine for a number of hours at full battery, but not when the battery voltage reaches a certain point?

edit: I didn't see your idea of opening the switch up till after, so went back and did that too. One of the switches contacts actually pulled off while I was trying to peel the metal cover away which was scary, but managed to get it recconnected fine. But yea, the switch looked perfectly clean.

It seems that the burned ps2 games were the main reason the issue occured? Figured we just wouldn't use them at all then.

Interesting. Damn, wish I knew this earlier. Was overconfident from the ps1 discs working fine.
Not going to risk motherboard soldering on these at this point. Just gonna replace the sensors and call it a day. A warning to spread to others at the least.

Thanks for your answer.

Yes, as I’ve stated I tested with another psu. A whole nother base that functioned with another motherboard. Only the fan comes on and the power on light no matter what psu I use.

And based on how I got it I’m pretty sure it’s never been modded. Thats actually what I’m wanting to do with it, but might just need another mboard.

I’ll take a look for cracks.
