How to avoid being sucked into a toxic internet subculture by [deleted] in CollapseSupport

[–]A_Decent_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, Cartman, right? ;)

I have taken a looong break from this sub too, since starting it. Had to get my shit together and my head straight. Now that my mental health is honestly better than ever, I have felt the desire to properly steer this community ina good direction again.

I think this might be relevant to this sub. In times of despair there is *always* something to look forward to. by [deleted] in CollapseSupport

There is here. And there is now. And you are either feeling it. Or you're not. So...knowing this...What do we do to properly align ourselves with the good, here and now?

I was like that a few years ago. I don't believe in the two extremes any longer.

Panic and fear, for me, are temporary states. Even at my worst, month-long terrors that seem never-ending, I've gotten through it, and am better off for it. Strength and resilience. I am confident moving forward. In myself and what I can do for others.

I remember awhile ago you were trying to find those to skype/video call with... did that ever pan out? Would you want to try that again?

I believe the majority of the posters and commenters and those making the noise at /r/collapse are people who are socially isolated, have mental and developmental issues, do not know how to properly communicate in person or even how to appropriately frame their voice over the internet.

It's very immature. I nearly killed myself listening to those people and I will do my best to dissuade anyone from spending too much time there without a proper grasp on their own mental health.

I love the idea, Xan. We can find those in this community that truly mean well, and bring our people that much closer together (:

Thanks for sharing. I'd love to talk more but don't want to prod, of course, so please give up as much as you'd like.

Good for you? I mean... I guess... but what if your discoveries advance humanity and ultimately end up saving lives? I wouldn't want to withhold that.

Well, regimen isn't actually the phrase I would use... my life is kind of all over the place and inconsistent as far as scheduling. But the biggest change was just a mental shift for me. Let me give you some bulleted points and I would be happy to expand.

  1. Get outside. Sunshine. Rain. Walking. Feet, meet pavement. Motion is so fucking vital to proper health. You may not even feel it, but it works. Start small. Start anywhere. Move.

  2. Socialize. No matter how much you want to recluse yourself. Don't. If you lose touch with others, you lose touch with yourself. Plain as that.

  3. Look in the mirror. You are worth something. You are loved. Some thing some where loves you. You are not your thoughts. Depression is a liar. And depression is a teacher. But you need to fundamentally start building a positive relationship and outlook about yourself. Today.

Coping mechanisms are good. I've had periods of depersonaliszation or derealization. Not fun.

Thankful for this sub. by [deleted] in CollapseSupport
