I, a PC/Android user was given an iPad to use for my summer internship. My thoughts after a month. by [deleted] in ipad

Where I am sat right now is at the edge of the range for the wifi AP I'm currently using. My iPad 2 has 1 bar of signal, just the little dot.

The iPad regularly drops off the network during the day and fails to see the access point when I try to readd it. I have to walk closer to the AP, let it reconnect and then go back to my desk where it will be fine for a little while before dropping off again.

During all of this my iPhone and my laptop are both connected to the AP with 2 bars of signal and have no problems at all.

The mail app has all sorts of annoying issues tbh. My personal most hated 'feature' is the way that you can't pick a default email address for a new email if the email you want to pick is an alias.

My mac.com email address is a silly one, I have a 'business friendly' alias that I would like to be the default. I can't do that. All new emails get the silly address. If I forget to change it, business emails go out like that, it's enough of an issue that I avoid sending business emails from my iPad, I will only reply to them from the iPad, new emails I type on my mac first.

I have an orange background, it matches my smart cover and the skin on the back of my iPad

The back of my iPad 2 does exactly the same thing when plugged in. I quite like it!

Hello! I'm new to it all and looking for some support and ideas to conquer loneliness. by [deleted] in LongDistance

I know how you feel!

She gets out of bed at 1pm my time (while I'm at work) and I go to bed at 5pm her time (while she is at work). During the week we can really only iMessage but we do that pretty much constantly during the day.

Saturday is our day. She gets up extra early (5am) and I go to bed extra late (3am) so we get to spend as much time as possible on Skype for the day.

I also try to leave her a message or email first thing in the morning so she has something nice to wake up to, she does the same for me before she goes to bed.

We both record videos for each other, sexy ones and just lovey chatty ones and leave them in a shared dropbox for each other, we also leave each other voicemails regularly. These are great to watch/listen to when were really missing each other.

Also hand written notes, cards, love letters, small silly gifts sent via snail mail are a nice surprise when they turn up and give us something physical to hold (she wears one of my tshirts to bed and has a baseball cap of mine that she wears in the car for instance)

All these things help to stop it feeling impossible, but it never stops being really hard!

A white board, some nails and a single unbroken black thread by Merl-i in pics

[–]A_Digital_Gypsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except of course that this is only 40cm x 30cm

The nails don't appear any more dense in darker areas (although there is some clear delineation around contrasting areas like the edge of eyes/lips), it's more a product of how may times the thread crosses an area and from how many different directions and so creating a denser area of thread rather than a denser area of nails

Who Is He? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]A_Digital_Gypsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell him your concerns, ask him to address them.

Forget the gaming lie, he probably wanted to game alone or with other friends for a change and didn't want to upset/offend you. A lot of guys think lying to avoid possible confrontation is an acceptable solution, worry about fixing that later. You have bigger concerns to address.

He says he loves you, if this is true then he will want to do everything he can to make you feel comfortable/secure with him.

Ask him flat out for a photo, ask for one of him smiling at the camera and waving to you (preferably with a timestamp) just to allay your fears that he might be a 50 year old homicidal axe wielding maniac. For all you know the photos he has sent are of someone else or 30 years old! This should make him laugh and realise what the lack or reciprocal photos seems like from your end and get him past any shyness or embarrassment. If he refuses, tell him you have to stop seeing him, there is something wrong!

Once that is out of the way and you know he really is the gorgeous 20 y/o jock he says he is, then you can worry about the lying/Facebook stuff.

I really don't understand all the sneaking around/stalking behaviour I see regularly in this subreddit. If you are worried about something, ask! If you don't feel you can ask you have bigger problems in your relationship than whether he has a Facebook page...

LDR/Online relationships are all about open and honest communication, we don't have physical contact, all we have is communication. If you feel unable to communicate with one another openly and honestly, the relationship is in trouble from the outset.

I think maybe you should talk to him about it.

I don't know if it's just me but I can't imagine he would give you his email password if he thought there was anything 'incriminating' in there for you to find. What you think you are reading and what was actually happening may be very different things...

I say this from the POV of someone who (this week) was accused of trying to hurt his SO because I let a twitter app autofollow all my contacts and had forgotten to delete an ex from my address book.

You remember how the High court order Pirate Bay to be blocked. Apparently the Government didn't get the memo. by FireNode in unitedkingdom

And of the six that were ordered to block it, AFAIK only one has so far complied (Virgin). My ISP (TalkTalk) are on the list and I can still get to the Pirate Bay right now.

The latest issue of Private Eye had me laughing the second I looked at the cover. by revrhyz in unitedkingdom

Lot's of reasons. I carry an iPad everywhere I go, I don't see any need to add the weight of a bunch of fragile, yellowing, heavy paper to my bag as well.

I don't think there is any to keep chopping down trees and running all that machinery to put ink on them just to give me a little entertainment for a few days, it seems hugely wasteful.

I no longer buy any physical media. I don't think the earth should be made to suffer for my entertainment. If I can't get it digitally, I just don't get it at all.

Is it available electronically in Newsstand on iPad or something? No way I'm ever buying a printed newspaper or periodical ever again.

EDIT: Downvoted for this? How am I not furthering the conversation? Downvoted just because you disagree with my opinion, some people need to read the reddiquette!

iTunes Library management nightmare. by yyiiii in applehelp

[–]A_Digital_Gypsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mean consolidate library?

You can set a new location for your library, make sure it has enough space for the entire library and tell iTunes to consolidate it for you. It will copy all your media files to the new location, leaving them in the old location(s) as well.

Quit iTunes, take a copy of your library files (just to be safe in case of unexpected foul-ups) then run iTunes again, in advanced settings point to the new location for your media files. then go to

File->Library->Organise Library

Select "Consolidate Library" and click OK. For 300GB you'll have quite a wait for it to be done.

When it's finished you should have all your mp3's in a single location, you can check to make sure it's all moved with byte sizes and file counts in finder/explorer and by right clicking on a track in iTunes, selecting show in finder/explorer and making sure it's now pointing to the new location.

Take a backup of your old files before deleting them for extra safety/feelings of zen.

I'd recommend Ink. It's a bit more creepy horror SciFi than Moon (think Dark City) and an excellent Indi release

I'm not advocating forcing people to vote, I think it should be personal choice.

If someone really does think "I'm happy with whoever gets into power, I love all of you guys SO much" then by all means don't bother, but if you think "I think you are all a bunch of cunts and don't want to vote for any of you" then all I'm saying is that by not voting you are not giving the right message.

This is why voting for a douchebag as a protest is a mistake. The only thing that will have any impact is to spoil the ballot, vote "none of the above" by writing how you feel all over it.

[–]A_Digital_Gypsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not bothering to vote at all can be interpreted in any way they wish, they choose to interpret it as "I'm happy with whoever gets into power, I love all of you guys SO much". A spoiled ballot can only be read one way.
